Philly native here. New Jersey has always been the punchline to our jokes. Mostly about it being a toxic waste dump. Seriously, there has been toxic waste that washed up on the shore. And trashiness.

If the OP wants to talk about fake t.v. then fine.

If the OP has a hate filled bundle of shame against Kentucky or New Jersey, fine.

But when you compare New Jersey to Kentucky, you are way the fuck out of line in my book.

LOL! Just kidding.

I have never heard of, nor do I understand, what you mean by a comparison on this one.

Cool people exist in every city.

It's a fact.
In the South, we see Kentucky as the amalgamation of all of the worst qualities of the South. Here, we're of the feeling: Shit, I may be from the South, but I'm not from Kentucky!" My old roommate was from Kentucky. His uncle brewed moonshine in his bathtub. This is not an uncommon practice in that part of the state. I'm merely wondering if there is a fair comparison. Also, I don't have anything against Kentucky or people from there, I merely acknowledge that it's...different there.
I live in Ohio. We make fun of Kentucky the same way. My friends and I went there once and we thought it was great. Cigarettes were cheaper and porn shops were like shopping malls.

Jersey is cool now? News to me.

Eh I know that there's that show with the douchebags and bitches in it, so I guess that accounts for its "popularity", but from what I can tell not alot of people like New Jersey. I've been there before, its nothing special. And they have those "jug handle" road things there. Meh. I don't really care.

Sorta fun New Jersey fact: New Jersey has the highest population density of any American state. (maybe I'm not sure, thought I read it some where.
It also happens to be the source of 2/3 of America's eggplants!

New Jersey became cool when TV producers realized it was cheaper to use it then a real state or city.
So California is going to retire that honor?

What, when did New Jersey become cool? My money's on when Kevin Smith started making movies there. But then he left and the cool is gone now.

Wait wait wait, New Jersey is cool? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Who's been lying to you, friend? New Jersey is the opposite of cool. Futurama said it best when Fry asked what the catch was for an apartment. The owner said "Oh, no catch, but we are technically in New Jersey." Cut to Fry, Lila, and Binder sitting around a table with Fry saying "Not one place even remotely livable!".

Us Australians miss out on everything :(
Not really missing anything this time. Been there once, signed the guest book, then left as soon as I could. If you want to simulate being in New Jersey, find an old outhouse and stand in it a while.

So far as I know, even the people who live in New Jersey hate New Jersey.
I've lived here my whole short life and pretty much everyone I know that lives here hates it (including me). It just isn't fun. There's trees everywhere, people drive like they can spare getting a car totaled and our educational funding just took a noise dive.

It's not nor ever will be cool.
Myth confirmed.
I'm from Jersey too, It depends what type of person you are, I like all the trees for backyard paintball, I use back roads to avoid shitty drivers and 3min red-lights, and education took a dive cause of the asshole Superintendents pocketing 6-figures.

What people from other states see most, is the tourist holes like Seaside Heights and Belmar, which as seen in "Jersey Shore" gets the Staten Island run-off. New Yorkers, take a look at your self: You got the city, and Lake George, then a couple hundred square miles of nothing.

I mean, we still got 10mi between Wawa's, Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor, sweet fishing spots, fresh water sharks, Giants/Jets New stadium, Sandy Hook, Asbury Park, Leonardo(Clerks), Weird NJ, a military base for almost every branch, Englishtown and Freehold Raceways, Ferry's to NYC and DE/MD, Atlantic City(if you can stand it), and Pork Roll. We also got George Washington on both sides of our state quarter. It's fun if you grow an imagination and drink some tap-water. I honestly can't think of any place I'd rather live.

Seriously, anyone who hates NJ hasn't ever had Taylor ham or a fried hot dog...or ever been to a NJ diner.

when jersey shore came out..

I still don't know why that makes new jersey cool.
Personally, I would think the opposite.

Oh well. People are beyond me.

Trick question, it didn't.

The only other states that I can think of that is disliked by many people in this country are California and Texas.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot Arizona.
LIES!
Everyone loves California.
Or at least we wish they did :(

Yes my state came up only 17 posts in! Score! oh wait...that's bad right? Whatever we have guns.

My though was it became cool? I know there is a show about the shore or somthing, but I didn't think it had become cool unless you were a preppy girl.

Damn it, I'm from Texas. I hate how half of this state makes us look bad.
