When I say Final Fantasy, who comes to mind?

Locke, easily. His aspirations of fame and fortune being repressed due to his own ineptitude and arrogance in the beginning of the game eventually culminating into saving the world and fulfilling his dreams of becoming a treasure hunter transcend the plight of 99% of other Final Fantasy characters. Not to mention him being equipped with the Genji Glove, Paladin Sword, and Atma Weapon is fucking cheating.

So, we all know that Final Fantasy is a game series that never seems to end and because of that, they have a bazillion characters. My friend and I were talking about it the other day and it made me curious...

When someone mentions Final Fantasy, what is the first FF character that comes to mind for you?

For some reason, it's Yuna from Final Fantasy X for me. Maybe that's because FFX was the first FF I ever even attempted, but I knew of a few other FF characters before Yuna (thanks to Kingdom Hearts) so I really have no idea why she comes to mind first. But she does.
And funny enough, Yuna isn't even my top favorites in the series (she is one of my favorite female characters, though, next to Rinoa). But even they (Vaan, Tidus, Larsa, Zidane) don't come to mind first.

So who comes to mind for you?

It's Squall for me as VIII's the first FF I ever played, when i was aroun 12 or 13, and to this day still remains my favourite (I don't care if no-one else liked it).

When you say "Final Fantasy," Nobuo Uematsu comes to mind. And I'm glad others have mentioned the same thing.

Who comes to my mind when you say "Final Fantasy"? It's the icky, squirming horde of Final Fanatics who burn at the stake any change to their precious franchise, despite how it changed EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I'm an FF Fanatic, and I've never once whinged about any of the games.
A few of them are quite similar and a few of them aren't. They change evverything everytime, keeping it fresh and still original, as well as still keeping what's essentially final fantasy.
I even enjoyed X-2 (as I was able to look past the girl power rangers inroduction and find a game that in all honesty was quite decent by itself. I think too many people compared it to X-2, henceforth all the hatred for it.

For someone who's only really played the GBA Tactics games in any depth, Cloud is still the main image of Final Fantasy.
