Either myself or a good looking girl.
Hell in Mass Effect i had a really good looking red-head that forced me to continue playing because she was so badass.
I would rather look at a female ass then a male one.

Since the only reason I ever make characters in anything is because it's an MMO, I always make characters that I'd actually want to look at for any period of time longer than a few minutes.

Some people don't like it, I don't care - They're not playing the characters.

It's normally how I want to look.

By that I mean my features, only slightly manlier. Me in 10 years say, with lots of stubble.
Same. My characters often end up looking like Chris Redfield with a beard.

I made Moriaty (The irish guy who owns the saloon but I don't know how it's spelt) before playing game and meeting him, it looks just like him except the hair is brown it was scary when I met him.

Whenever I create characters in a game they all look the same.

I must have created at least 10 characters in Mass Effect and I can't create someone that looks that different from the last. And the fact that I end up giving them something that makes them look ridiculous means I just use the generic Shepard, although he looks far better than anything I could create.

Same with Oblivion, if I made characters in the same species.

Anyway, once in the Sims 2 I set each alternating slider to the top, and the others to the bottom. The creation was the ugliest bastard you've ever seen.

I gave him a phone and a chair (that was literally it other than the walls), and just adopted as many babies as possible. Christ, I'd of euthanised the poor guy if he was real. All he could do was sit, piss himself and mop up the piss.

Reminds me of my cheeky, badass red-head. And i approve of the female ass statement :)

That said, i think the most natural idea is to think about the type of character you'd like to play in terms of behavior and alignment, and trying to fit the looks to that.

But i have to admit, i need to like the result. Most recently i restarted Dragon Age after the first 2 hours of play with basically the same character again because i didn't like how the eyebrows and chin looked in cutscenes. It gave the character a doubting, inconfident look while i wanted to play an experienced, rather impervious (i hope thats the word) type of hero.

I spend a couple of hours making a single character sometimes, and I base their appearance based on how I envision their personality for that character. My first character will usually be female, and the second male, then whatever I feel like. Yeah, I play RPGs too much...

Except in Mass Effect. All of my attempts failed horribly, so I just rolled with the premade guy.
Basically this, including the mass effect fail.

Either your classic Aragorn, or just some random brute.
For females, I try to make the prettiest face, why should I bother with anything else.

I always try to make a character look like me (at least similar anyway) it lets you feel more involved with the game I think.

I think I make mine to look like me on a small level, but with the epic good looks scaled up to the numeric equivalent of the banhammer power level

I usually think of a pesonality for the character and model the character around that. Sometimes they're ugly and sometimes they're hawt. Just depends what mood I'm in really.

But I always give them super pale skin.

I've got a standard issue character I like to use: bald Asian dude with pimpin' stash. I think it's just funny to have the same dude (or his genetic clone) everywhere. Seriously, my Commander Shepard and my Grey Warden could use each other as shaving mirrors.

I always try to make the most handsome bastard ever. And I'm pretty good at that.

I can't play with ridiculous characters, they bother me.

I usually go with a character who looks like me, and if given the option I'll usually play the character as having a personality at least somewhat similar to how I would act in a given situation.

To be honest, I like modeling characters after myself. I'll go totally crazy with the clothing given a chance, but they are all basically girl-with-short-brown-hair.

I'm either vain or boring.

Eh, it depends how I am feeling at the moment. I really don't know what I am going to do until I get to the character creation screen. I do put a lot of effort into it though, spending more time creating my character than I do actually playing the game. =-/
