Being raised as a fat kid, you needed some type of good quality in order to become liked and not made fun of. Mine was cruel, unsmiling sarcasm, it stems from necessity.

My sarcasm comes from a deep-rooted and intense desire to be accepted by my peer group, but an inability to form meaningful social relationships and a lack of basic socialization skills, resulting in a pathological need to publicly voice my disdain for the people around me when really I am crying inside and just want to feel loved.

....I mean...TV...

It's kind of a reflex you develop. As soon as someone says something that makes a warning light go on in your head, your immediate reaction is to savagely rip apart every stupid little thing they say, verbally or mentally. It's the only defense I have against becoming someone who says head-turningly stupid stuff.

Both of my parents are sarcastic, I'm part British, all my friends are sarcastic, and I went to school with complete idiots who made stupid comments all the time.

If I hadn't developed into a Deadpan Snarker, hell would have frozen over...

Throwing people off keeps them on their feet, opposed to the same old formalities of normal conversation. Also, laughing is contagious and very healthy. So it works.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Its far more fun to have a conversation with two sarcastic people than a normal one.

My mother. She destroyed any stupid question I had with a thick sarcasm until it got to the point that I to developed it. We'll be talking in a store and people will actually wonder if we're that mean to each other until we start laughing

I think the origin of sarcasm came from someone who was sick and tired of someone else always pointing out the obvious.

It's between a bit of cynicism and a slightly misanthropic sense of humor. Take your pick.

Also, it's a pretty good way of getting back at people. If someone's acting like a douche, be sarcastic. If they get it, they're mildly annoyed with you. If they don't get it, it's really amusing to watch them take you seriously.
