i just noticed, there are alot more people saying that the women should have smaller breasts, so why do developers keep giving them watermelons
Because most men lie. They claim they don't want oversexed characters while also buying DOA. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. Cookie for whoever gets the reference.
i get it ha, i find it hard to take a character seriously is there breasts are too big.c cups maybe?

Because you can opt to not be a big-titted, barely-dressed, empty-headed 20-something.
Well to be fair you don't actually have an option to be any of those things. Except maybe 20-something.
Still a good point though.

Catherine Archer from No One Lives Forever.

Although the tight jumpsuit zipped down to ... there... was a bit much, most of the time she dressed appropriate to the situation, and with dialogue, script and a good voice actress, she came across as competent, clever, witty, resourceful and tough.

Though she's not technically the main character, I'd have to say Alyx Vance of HL2 fame is probably one of the best female characters ever. She acts intelligent, has a genuinely funny sense of humor, and a very deep personality. She's not overly sexualized but still extremely badass! Also, she's black/Asian, the first and still only of he kind in video games. All in all, she seems human enough to easily sympathize with, retaining the badassery of an action hero without making it seem unrealistic or corny. While Alyx is not the main character, Gordon Freeman has little to no personality, making Alyx the most developed character, and the most awesome female character in the history of videogames.

Metroid, easily. Because for most of the games, the gender wasnt even that much of a factor. No one cared, it wasnt a big deal. They didnt make it a novelty or gimmick to be used to broaden the target audience or exploit sex selling. Which I spose doesnt really address the original question about how its different then a male lead....but thats my point, too many games with female leads do it for gimmicky reasons to shift more units off the shelves and into our homes =(

Also, since I didnt finish the first games, I retract these comments if the games contradict me further in then I got.
They did not use sexploitation, except for the fact that if you beat the games quick enough, you got to see Samus in a skimpy outfit. But that's hard to do, anyways, and not a lot of people knew about it.

Also, I agree with Samus. She's like the female Boba Fett. With extra awesome.

Joanna Dark, or Alex Roivas from Eternal Darkness.

Obviously Samus is in there but I will go for either of the above, probably Jo because she had character.

and the game is poorer for it.

I so want to be a big-titted, barely-dressed, empty-headed 20-something.
I prefer my girls small breasted, well-dressed, and with a head full of brainy things. I am just a freak I guess.

Why would you want to do that? :D
See above!
Also: I live in Florida. I can walk outside and see fifty girls with breasts bigger than watermelons, hair bleached to a freakish white-blonde, bad tans, and empty heads.
And every time I do, I am filled with disgust and murderous rage.
Well not really, but ew.
You, my good sir, are a genius.
I appreciate that (or rather, my ego does,) but even if I thought fake blondes were the hottest thing since sliced bread, it's like eating pizza every single day for ten years.
Eventually? You'll throw up at the sight of it. And I never liked the stereotype or the people who acted it, so you can imagine my reaction (it invovlves chainsaws and wild dogs.)
It seems we are the only sane ones left.
I don't like it when girls are artificial, though I still believe my sanity to be questionable

I agree with this, basically any game that has a woman fully clothed and with natural sized tits is daring enough to be respected in my book. Who knows how much of sales spike they take for not making every woman in every game a sex goddess? Because men will instantly buy your game if the women are physically unable to do a pushup developers!

Hmm, trying to think of a character that hasn't been said already...

OH!

Any of the female characters in Twisted Metal Black. They were all psychotic killers, what's not to like?

Perhaps I took that too far...

I second Alyx Vance, for all the reasons stated above. Having never played Metroid, Beyond Good and Evil, or Perfect Dark, I can't really vouch for those. However, I'm going to suggest someone way out of left field here: Karan Sjet from Homeworld. Think about it. She submits herself to an experimental procedure, is hardwired into the computer core of the Mothership to act as fleet command, and leads a small group of refugees to ultimate victory against a vast and ancient interstellar empire. I'd say she's highly badass in her own way. There is zilch about sex appeal or anything else that defines most female main characters. She is all about leading the Kushan to victory, regardless of personal sacrifice. I somehow doubt most of the other female leads here would volunteer to give up everything to ensure the survival of their species.
