I liked Elika from Prince of Persia.

She was pretty determined on her goal, and her vague flirtatiousness with the "Prince" was funny and unpredictable at times.

Also, I haven't yet, so I have to make it a point to play Beyond Good and Evil. Heard it was good.

Not really the main character, but Kreia from Star Wars: KoTOR II was a really cool female character. First of all, she was old and her entire body (besides half of her face) was covered in a cloak, so even if you are attracted to old women, you're not going to see much action from her. Second, her backstory (albeit limited by the technical issues associated with the game) was very complex. It was so that, when I first played the game, ignoring my companion's whining and crying for attention, I blasted through it so quickly that I really felt like I went gallivanting around the galaxy for no reason. As soon as you pay attention to what Kreia has to say (what I did the second time around), many parts of the game start to click in your head. Third, the reasons behind her actions were perfectly valid (if you paid attention to what those reasons are), a trait that, sadly, many heroes/villains lack besides the whole cliched "is good because he opposes the bad guy" or "is bad because he want power" crap. And she was consistent. Many times, the "wise old guy" character in a game will yak and yak about philosophical gibberish just to give the impression of age and wisdom, even if it doesn't correspond to previous philosophical dialogue. Kreia's words of wisdom hardly ever oppose each other; it always follows a singular, underlying theme (which I would divulge further were it not for the handful of gamers reading this who didn't play the game... those sad, sad gamers).

....now I wanna play KoTOR II....Holy cow, I wrote all that?
Holy cow, I read all that? XP

It took more than two posts to mention this game. I am ashamed. FFXIII? Its not even out and all you've seen are action sequences and you'd say that? Thats a little weird.

I think if more than three people actually played this game than this would be the only answer to the question this topic asks. I'm not angry, this is just opinion, but I strongly encourage anyone who hasn't played this game should (You can find it for free in Canadian string cheese; I'm not kidding, you seriously can).

Because you can opt to not be a big-titted, barely-dressed, empty-headed 20-something.

This.
what he said.

But I also say Alyx from Half Life 2

She may not be the main character, but she was believable
Yea, Alyx is pretty self explanatory but she isn't the protagonist, which is why she hasn't been posted a million times already on this thread.

Yeah, although KotOR was much better than KotOR II was by no means bad, as many would claim.
A lot of people says KotOR II was too rushed and didn't have a good enough story or characters, I beg to differ. While it may not live up to the expectations of the masterpiece that is the original KotOR, it's still a great game.

[/short rant] over

I honestly can't think of very many, except for some great supporting characters (i.e., love interests, shockingly enough).

I'll have to go with Lara Croft. (I know, kill me)
But at least her personality lately has somewhat caught up to her appearance in terms of...development.

I have to agree...she's a really strong and authoritative character, with probably some of the best dialogue ever written for video games (including RPG's).

That said, she's also a major turn-off in KOTOR 2.
In the first one, you were immediately paired with a whiny but tolerable manchild who at least hadn't been cliched yet and went around with him for a while until you picked up a hot, capable, and- most importantly- British Jedi chick who immediately opened up romantic options in the plot.

Amaterasu of Okami fame. Yay for wolves - especially wolves that are personifications of the sun.
win. seconded.

Though it was hard to feel any character from Ammie, through Issun's chats with her you'd realize that she DOES have a personality, the personality of a stuck-up but righteous goddess that eventually warms up to Issun & others.

EDIT: How about Daphne from Giants: Citizen Kabuto? I only played her for a short while b4 I lost interest in the game, but thought I should remind some people to remember her & discuss.
