The first computer game I remember playing was a Pong style of thing, but it wasn't Pong. And there was a game called Radical Castle, which sort of a point and click / rpg thing, but it was really basic, that was on my uncle's Apple Mac.
Then there was Rampage on the Atari, which convinced me that games were brilliant things. Stayed with consoles until getting my first PC, which could run Doom, which was great, the next PC could run the first Grand Theft Auto. The first game that made me think PC's could be ebtter than consoles was Civilisation 2, which was like a drug.
I stayed with PC's until Far Cry. I eventually got sick of having to turn graphics down all the time. I switched to Xbox, and I now play 90% of games on console. I mostly run Linux on my computer now, and think that part of the reason I've shied away from PC gaming is Windows, which I don't enjoy using, bbut the main reason is constantly having to upgrade.
Now that consoles have hard drives, downloadable content and online multiplayer, PC gaming is becoming less relevant to gamers like me, who can't afford to upgrade their pc every year and a half.
The superior piracy controls of consoles make the PC less relevant to publishers too, it seems.
Other things I prefer about consoles include beanbags, passing the controller around with mates, and having somebody make you a cup of tea while they await their turn.
