Valve has to meet unrealistic expectations with Episode 3. People want the game to be incredible, so they are spending a lot of time creating it. But now everyone is whining for you them to release the damn thing. Will you guys just make up your minds?

Me? I can wait years without it. I know that it will come eventually, and it will be all the better for it. I also know that the second they show a trailer for it the wait is going to be 100x harder, so I'm glad they haven't shown much.

It's not like Valve hasn't even started working on it yet. It's been in production since before Episode 2 was released.

I really can't put it better then you Kraken. It'll come when it's done. I'm just trying to keep it as far out of my mind as possible in order to make the waiting easier.

I played HL2 ep 2 and finished it AGES ago, valve keep releasing L4D stuff but somehow they have forgotten that were waiting solemnly for an ending to what is likely their greatest game ever? neway post any news youve heard or opinions etc below.

They have a separate team working of HL2:EP3 so i assume there just making it perfect much like Blizzard valve have a rep for being very slow with there games ( bar the obv LFD2) but both of these companies are considered some of the greatest developers

For a bunch of developers as talented as Valve I dont think there is any excuse for the time gap between the Episodes.

Lets face it, the story must have been finalised years ago and the engine is already there, does it really take so many years to put the 2 together in such a way to make a sub-10 hour game?

yeah i figured that they would have a seperate team to work on HL2 ep 3 and L4D but i dont doubt that they put alot more resources into L4D then they have into HL2 which is kinda sad because L4D could have lived without a sequel for another few months but there are quite a number of people who have been waiting for EP 3 for ages

Make it well? well it took IW 2 years to make MW2, and that lasted 5 hrs. Don't tell me aboot the multiplayer because they didn't add anything there. That probably took 2 guys 2 days to make.

See any problems? And although I have not played MW2 it is said to be quite a big step forward from MW and I have played MW and to take a big step from that is quite a job. And how big of a step forward was HL2e1 or HL2e2 from the original HL2 not so big there were some visual enhancements but the rest was as it was before. Baisically they have to make new levels and take the story forward, which is what they did with the first 2 episodes. Thats fucking it.

The problem is, I don't mind how long it takes, but it better be so much better than Ep.2

A shitload of new weapons, enemies, setpieces and well, everything.

If it comes out with not one new weapon and 8 hours of gameplay, I will be very disappoint.

That's why they'll never make it.

They waited too long and now it isn't going to be a good idea for them. Whatever they make will piss many people off.

Half-Life is my favorite video game franchise. I know that Episode 3, like every other game in the franchise, is going to be fantastic (and this is in large part due to the fact that I don't expect Valve to deliver the literal word of god just because this game has taken a long time to come out, like some people in this thread seem to). But you know what? I'm waiting. I don't mind. It's not like there's not a billion other things to do out there. It's not like I have to be bored until it does come out.

In summary, get a life.

Agreed. I mean, it's been, what, 2 years? No one complains when any other dev takes 2 years to make a game. Granted, Valve is notorious for wait times, so 2 years without news means it will take a good deal longer, but it's not worth complaining about. Talk about a double standard.

You know what they'll do. They'll release a 25 hour game on december 22 2012. Just because so many people have been saying "it'll come out 24 hours after the world ends". Thats my projection.

And i agree with you. Episode 1 was pointless. It could have been massively shortened and used as the first chapter of Episode 2. I mean seriously. What happened in EP. 1? Huh? Can you tell me one important plot point? Just one? No. You can't. BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAVE ANY.

Alright, I like the story in HL, but it's always been more about the experience. I, for one, enjoyed Episode 1, it was a fun experience. That said, that may be because my first exposure to a Valve game was the Orange Box, so I didn't have to wait a year after playing Episode 1 to play the next chapter.
