Being useless isn't quite the same as having no personality. The Chief is good at what he does even if he is just generic hard man soldier No. 37018ZerOmega said:Master Chief. No background what so ever and minimal personality. Hell, even that guy in Doom and Wolfenstein had a face.
and explains that he has a face, too lolInsanum said:if you read the books he gets more personality.ZerOmega said:Master Chief. No background what so ever and minimal personality. Hell, even that guy in Doom and Wolfenstein had a face.
I believe that if a character is created in and for a game, he/she should be given the personality, background, motivations etc. in the game. The game is what is exposing them for the first time. They don't make movies and say "But wait! After the movie here's a book that explains the background of our main character!". If a movie can't get away with it then why should a game? I understand that the first game was great, kind of like the original Unreal Tournament where awesomeness kind of over-rides the need for a lot of development. H:CE was great. But the fandom from it is all that lets it get away with what it does. The Master Chief, as gamers know him, is a shallow character. To the fans loyal enough (or blind enough, however you look at it) to read the fiction, maybe he's more interesting. In all fairness though, as a "game" character he kind of blows.Insanum said:if you read the books he gets more personality.ZerOmega said:Master Chief. Tell me what you think that makes MC a good game character?
The books read through his story as a child, his personality - All the things that you say the games 'lack'.
I understand your point, but you cant call bullshit without all the facts.
Even if the books DO patch up MC's personality, the only people who are ever going to read those stories are the ones who already think that Halo is the best game since Super Mario 3. The other people who didn't find it that great are not going to bother to check it out, because the assume that it's just something that's very similar to the game.
My point is that if you're going to release some extra stuff to some game (e.g.fan fiction, expansion or soundtrack), there's no need to try to win more audience than the original thing. If they weren't impressed with the real deal, why would they be impressed to other stuff about it?
If the main dish is shit, you don't wait for the dessert (or something like, what yahtzee once said).
ok, i'm in two minds about this one.tomtom94 said:OT:
I will say Goofy from Kingdom Hearts...he attacks with a shield and has poor AI. And no magic.
