I cant think of one that I liked all the movies they directed and I'm not enough of a movie nerd to say "oh this camera work is reminiscent of so and so!!"

Michael Bay because I like explosions kabooom
High five!
Someone eat these two? :O
What?

Are you requesting that cas and I be cannibalised?
Well if they must be eaten I am up to the task, raw or cooked though?
I refuse to be consumed without the eleven secret herbs and spices.
Did you know that their are only 4 secret herbs and spices, the other seven are products they pass off as 'herbs and spices' to absorb more fat.
Well whatever they are, they taste delicious.

Is John Carpenter still active? If yes, him.
If not, Sam Raimi. For Evil Dead, obviously. Though I also liked Drag Me To Hell.

John Carpenter recently resumed his career with 'the ward' which is being filmed right now and he has three films that are going to follow that up, he a 9 year break from 2001-2010, except for two episodes of the tv show 'master of horrors.' and even before 2001 it was a three year gap. So he hasn't done much in the past 10 years.

Robert Rodriguez, because I loved From Duck Til Dawn. Also Tarentino and Peter Jackson.

I'd say Sam Raimi too, but I've not quite forgiven him for Spiderman 3 and Legend Of The Seeker.

I havent got around to seeing Public Enemies yet, is it every inch as awesome as the trailers make it look?
I confess, I've never seen Last of the Mohicans.
As for Public Enemies, Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Tommy guns, what more do you need to know? It's great.

It's very good. Not his usual kind of thing, but still excellent. Plus it has an excellent soundtrack, as does every other Mann film I've seen.

With regards to Public Enemies, your description alone makes me know it'll be worth a watch :p

It's a tough one. Ridley Scott would probably be up there, for Alien and Blade Runner. I love both of those movies, especially the latter. I really need to get the collector's edition DVD. I like James Cameron a lot as well, for the first two Terminator movies and for Aliens. Action movies simply do not get better than those.

My favourite, though, would probably have to be Clint Eastwood. I haven't seen Gran Torino or Letters From Iwo Jima yet, but I'm going to soon. Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby and Flags of our Fathers were all absolutely fantastic, especially Unforgiven. I love how it basically destroyed every established tradition for Westerns; it really turned the genre on its head.

Darren Arenofsky- PI, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.

David Fincher- Seven, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Tarsem Singh- The Cell, The Fall

Sidenote: Why hasn't Arenofsky won an oscar???

Quentin Tarantino, Inglorious Basterds is coming out here on Thursday and I can't freaking wait! Tim Burton is second.
Just to let you know, Inglorious Bastards was a great movie. Had a very good mix of comedy, action, and just plain old good acting :)

Danny Boyle. Its a very easy decision:
Sunshine
Slumdog Millionaire
Trainspotting
28 days later
No matter what type of film it is, he makes them so well.

Actually, I'd have to disagree with you on that one, you see all the movies you just mentioned are loved by lots and hated by lots, there aren't many people in the middle. I personally like 28 days later and trainspotting but dislike the other two. So I believe that he isn't the best but he is definiently up their.

Well, his style focus on character relations with a certain premise. This kind of style is difficult to master.

However, I do respect his idea of always wanting to make something original.

I've got two. Firstly, David Lynch. Mainly for Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive, which share similar themes. Both of them take a little working out, but they are both beautiful and have scenes in which you'll never forget.

Secondly, Stanley Kubrick. He made films in so many different genres, and several of his movies are candidates for the best in that genre. 2001: A Space Odyssey for sci-fi, Dr. Strangelove for comedy, Full Metal Jacket for war film, The Shining for horror. The man was an obsessive perfectionist, and it shows in his films.
