-snip-neither perfect dark nor golden eye helped make a fictional nintendo 128 but halo helped make the xbox 360. Also no I am not a halo fanboy. Mainly because if gears of war was getting a lot of hate instead of halo, then I would make a similar thread like this one but instead of halo,it's gears of war.
But why though? This topic has been done to death. Not everything is going to appeal to everyone, and everyone is going to have a specific opinion based on one thing or another that causes them to love or lash out at something that some one else may love or lash out at as well.

Not to mention that this has to be the 6th or 7th thread along the lines of "Why all the hate on X," or "What is it with Y?" Every single one can be answered the same way depending on which of the two choices you picked. That's why these threads are starting to get really annoying, so many people lately have been posting one of these 2 threads with whatever game they can think of, and they are ALL answered the same exact way...

Maybe yours is a bit different, or perhaps you were able to give a good debate. (From what I've seen of your OP, that's kind of hard to imagine, then again most of the responses have been people mocking you so.. That works too.)

But seriously? There are too many of these threads and it's starting to get annoying. I don't understand why you would make a "Why all the hate on gears of war." When if you took the time to think about it. You would probably get the same answers...
If this topic has been done so many times before then why are so many people coming to respond to this thread if it's so unimportant to them?
Successful fanboy cry was successful? Like I said, maybe yours was a bit different, the others seemed to die off after a page or 2, but it still doesn't mean that reproducing these threads over and over again is okay. If this was the first of these kinds of threads, then I wouldn't be able to say anything, but the fact that there's about, 4 of these that were made before this one and 3 more afterwords and then the spoof "Why all the hate on why all the hate threads?" You can see why I feel that these need to stop.

The only thing I saw that was different from other threads is where you said that Halo was one of the first fps games that were done correctly or something along those lines. I took that as simple trolling so I ignored it, but of course there were going to be many, many people out there quick to tell you how wrong you are.

I could go around making threads with "Why all the hate on X," and "What is with Y?" with just about every game/movie/book out there, and I'm pretty sure that the majority of the answers will be the same throughout every single one... Yah... No...
I have only been on this website for 4 days. How am I supposed to know what's in every thread on here when I barely know how to use this website?

Because people have their own opinios and aren't "jumping on the bandwagon" for disliking a game. Not necessarily, anyway.

Personally, I loathe it.

all i'm gonna say is i never really liked Halo to start with so i never got the first game. then a while later i bought a 360 that came with Halo 3 so i when "might as well try it". it was ok at most but the fact that Master Chief is an emotionless brick in power armour kinda killed the mood, but a counterpoint was forge which brought great fun for people and some quite cool maps and the reason i might be getting Reach is the fact that Noble Team HAVE some form of emotion. so all in all i don't hate the game yet i don't foam at the mouth when someone hates on it cos all that can really be said is there are diffrent people who like diffrent things. from playing fast paced FPS's or a good old RTS. some like killin' aliens some zombies and others there fellow man. so no matter what game is made there will be some people who will hate on it and thats really all that can be said

Honestly, Halo from a purely technical standpoint is a solid shooter. However it is not the second coming many of it's fans believe it is.

The AI in the original (and this has cascaded into the sequals) is poor with path finding issues.

The weapons are rather uninspired, though for a game modeling (the human) weapons on real items, I can let this slide, but the alien weapons were a bit dull.

The level design is extremely bad. There is no flow to the levels and the player is required to fall back to "well, I haven't killed stuff over here, so I guess that is where I need to go". When you want the player lost or exploring then this is fine (think Fallout3), but Halo was not designed as that style of game, so this was a HUGE issue.

The level art was also equally bad. In Halo3 they fixed it but the first two Halo titles had a lot of poor artwork for textures, or texture load issues.

The story was pretty cookie cutter. They never attached the player to the story. I never cared about any of what happened.

Animations were odd. Some looked great, but others were terrible. Player animations from an FP perspective were solid (reload animations and such), but in multiplayer seeing a spartan from third person the animations looked stiff and unnatural.

And the big one: Multiplayer
Halo has done nothing to the multiplayer scene aside from introduce console players to the idea of online multiplayer (which it did quite well, the introduction part that is). The problem I had was it did nothing new or better than what was already out. Other games had better graphics, animations, vehicles, game modes, and damage systems. There was nothing about Halo that said "Play this instead of Game X because we do Feature Y better".

Those are the reasons I do not care for Halo. I have played Halo 1,2, and 3 to completion and even tried the multiplayer, but they consistantly fail to capture me. For the fans who love it, that is great. And they are loyal, which I can respect (even if many can be douche bags about it), but in the end I'll stick to games that manage to do better than Halo in almost every way.

Because without them people wouldn't have the "Black or white" option when it comes to liking a game.

And everybody loves black and white situations!

Seriously, stop using that line. First off, you're wrong about it, givent that those two helped to shape offline co-op, keep FPSs alive and relevant to people who didn't play PC games, and were successful enough to help Nintendo make the Gamecube and Wii. Second, relating to the end of the previous sentence, just as Golden Eye and Perfect dark didn't solely give enough money in revenue to make another console, neither did Halo. Plenty of other Xbox games contributed, and I'd even bet a bit of profits from Microsoft's other divisions helped out. Sure, Halo was the big console figurehead, but there were a lot of other games the Xbox had (I have a used game store nearby that has a full shelf of Xbox games, atleast 4 feet long, four rows, and arrange with the side facing forward).

As for Halo hate, some of it comes from the fact that it's most rabid fanboys praise it as the best game ever, it happens to be a very well known game. Most happen to get a lot of crap even if they turn out to be just fine. On that note, Halo fans shouldn't complain about the hate they get, because trust me when I say it pales in comparison to the hate FF fans suffer under.
Wells it's not like the gamecube and the wii had good shooters on it(if any). At least they weren't very hardcore
And with that, we say hello to Metroid Prime, Red Steel 2, XIII, TimeSplitters 2, and some medal of honors (never really played those, but they've got a fan base).

4 times in 4 different posts to 4 different people despite the fact that the N64 was popular enough for Nintendo to keep making consoles. In fact it made not only those two, but the entire gameboy family after that too.

And if you're looking for halo fans to get respect, try not to be come off as being an asshole on the forums. It sort of ruins the message. (Yes, I know you're "Not a fanboy" but you are defending the game, so you're representing it.)

OK, there's a long list of games with a better single player, but I'll throw out Fallout 3, Mass Effect, and Red Dead Redemption (though in all fairness the last two aren't FPSes)

and awesome main character in the form of Master chief.
Yeah...and then main characters learned to talk and grew faces.

I guess this is coming off a bit harsh, but that's the only way I can think of to answer your question. Sorry for the harshness.

I know and understand this, this is why I am merely explaining my thoughts on it instead of really lashing out. Those other threads from people with higher post counts got far worse.

I could have said "Use the search bar next time" like the others since there are other "Why hate halo?" threads out there, but as far as I'm concerned, that search engine is broken. Which is why I can't really hold it against you for starting this thread, especially since you're new here. On the other hand, the other users with higher post counts should know better though... >:O

lol.

Because you make ridiculous claims that are just not true.

The Xbox could not have just survived on a single game, and sure as hell could not have spawned a next gen console with just the 1 title.

The idea that Halo made console shooting what it is was disputed on page 1. It did not, there were plenty of games listed in the thread that had a much bigger impact on the genre. Yet this is the same argument that you keep trying to disprove with slippery slope arguments. Making claims like "Without Halo there would be no Xbox360 or Modern Warfare 2" is just a silly way to go about this cause there is no way to back those claims up.

I don't hate Halo. It's fun story and it has good gameplay. Multiplayer isn't too frat boyish and overall it's a decent game. It's still not "THE" console fps for me though, that spot in my heart will always be for Goldeneye/Perfect Dark

I understand but mass effect, red dead redemption, and fallout 3 came way after halo. Back then story in a game(except for maybe half life but that was about it) was UN heard of so halo's story was good enough for us all.

If anyone is being an asshole it's most of the people in this thread. I say some good things about halo and everybody assumes FANBOY,FANBOY,FANBOY!. As much as I like metroid, The gamecube is not really very popular anymore. I guess will see when metroid other m comes out. Red steel 2 was meh to me. I guess I just never liked the wii. It did not seem very hardcore to me when my other options were halo, gears, gta, call of duty, killzone, bioshock, fallout, and god of war.

Well for starters red dead redemption, fallout, and mass effect is 9 years ahead of halo so of course they will seem better than halo 1.

I don't think shooter was the main mechanic in that game. That was more survival horror than shooter. Especially when the enemies did not really shoot back.

Couple things to point out actually.
1. It wasn't the first Xbox game. It was an early one, but not the first.
2. It wasn't the first console shooter to work right. There were the early turok games, Goldeneye, etc.
3. It's likely that the hate comes from fanboys and hype. It's common for people to hate a game solely because too many people love it.

Then again, it depends what your views are on all of Halo.

I view it's a generic lump of poo that any un-money subtracting dev could have poo-ed out in a year to see if there was a stir about a new engine.

Then again my opinions. Though I can see why it was highly praised because of it's stunning visuals and immense level design.
