Because nobody wants to hear about someone constantly complaining about how bad their life is. Sorry, if I don't know you and I just don't care. You want sympathy, try to find some from your friends. And most of them don't even have any real problems, they just overreact to every little bad thing about them. And someone who really wanted to fix their problems would ask for help. If things were really that bad, you'd be talking to a counselor, or child services or some shit. Complaining and not taking any action isn't going to solve anything. So why don't you just grow the fuck up, wipe off the eyeliner and start acting like you got a pair. You're really not as misunderstood as you think. Everyone feels misunderstood, but those people, unlike you, deal with it. We don't turn into pretentious whiny fucks.

...sorry Its just, Emos really bug me.

The same reason every new or changed subculture is hated.
It's just a generational thing about "this fucking new generation is so stupid" or "we were so much cooler in the (insert music/fashion genre) scene back in our day, this is gay".
That and just the standard clique insults.
"Fucking metalheads think a bunch of people yelling and banging on shit is so great" "Stupid punks and their dumb ideas" "Techno is gay" "Stupid wiggers" etc. etc.

Can't say I'm a fan of emo culture as it is today, but I don't have a big hate-on about it. The original hardcore punk bands where the label originated were pretty awesome though.

Yous summed it up so perfectly.... I'm speechless.

They think that they're the only people in the world that have problems and that because of that they can get away with not caring and being completely self absorbed. If you're clinically depressed, go see a psychiatrist and get it worked out. If you're not, shut up and stop bitching. We all have problems, and if the rest of us can handle them without becoming a wrist-cutting narcissist, you have no excuse.

Not to judge or anything.

This too. Especially because of the whole rebellion thing. They don't actually believe in fighting the "corrupt" government, they just want attention. Plus the whole raging hormones thing.

Unless you've had some horrible, dreadful thing happen to you in your life (Which I would then have some sympathy for in that case) I feel teenagers don't even know what life is about to be complaining about it. It's idiotic to spend your youth forcing yourself to be miserable when it's only going to go downhill from there.

Because they complain about how hard life is, even when it's not.

Because their music is shit.

Because they want people to feel sorry for them.

Because they look like tools.

Anyone who acts like that deserves to be hated.

Because they whine a lot, and always feel the need to inform others that they enjoy cutting themselves.

At least, in my experiences. But I haven't seen many anymore, I think the fad died.

Because every emo that I've ever met, and ever will meet, grew up in white, middle-class America, has access to culture, education, and/or career opportunities on par with or greater than mine, and they will still have the nerve to pretend that the world is picking on them, with the expectation of being taken seriously.

Look at what they have done to Dante. Seriously, I don't even play DMC games and I know that "emo" is the exact opposite of what anyone wants from that character. They want wisecracking, overconfident, Matrix bullet dodging, demon killing bad-ass. Not seeing him cry to himself in a corner cause his mommy didn't buy him stuff from hot topic this month.

Ya, hes kind of a pompous asshole, but you don't need to turn him into an emo *****. What? You thought it would be more "hardcore" to have him wear makeup, whine about everything, and to threaten to cut himself?

Basically because it's cool to hate them. I actually know a few emos, and they're not as whiny as everyone says they are. Yeah, my ex is a little psychotic, but that's more the not being able to accept that I needed space to heal thing than the being emo thing.

I know that some older folks have a hard time buying the fact that teenagers/young people have anything to be sad/depressed about. It's an observation that I can see the logic behind, yet generaly disagree with.

EVERYBODY READ THIS, YOU IGNORANT MORONS:
EMO IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS, IT'S A DEAD SUBGENRE OF HARDCORE PUNK. Emo is not pop-punk dressed in black like MCR or modern rock like Fallout Boy, it's completely different, and the reason why the label 'emo' was applied to something it bears no resemblance to is beyond me. I'll probably put on probation for this, because this site does not encourage true free speech, and people hate to think they are wrong, but PLEASE, READ THESE AND STOP BEING SO GODDAMNED STUPID:

http://www.freewebs.com/youdontknowemo/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo

I seriously hate how so many people can be so ignorant.

The music, of God the fucking music. Screamo makes we want to punt babies into wood chippers. THAT is why I hate emos.

I only knew my friend cut when she grabbed my arm to help keep my from tripping and her guantlet slipped down and I saw the scars. She also has 'em on her legs and chest and I think some on her stomach and hips as well. Creepy, you know?

Because they ripped off every other "alternative" subculture, and they whine incessantly. They ruined stripes, Converse, safetypins, hair dye, skinnyjeans, piercings, eyeliner, blood, MUSIC, and a load of other things that I can't think of now. Don't get me wrong, I have a few emo friends who are pretty sound, but I just hate all the bullshit. My parents were goths in the 80s, and they haven't changed much (my dad hasn't changed at all), so I grew up around goths, punks and crusties (when I started going to school it freaked me out that none of the boys had long hair(goths were my favourite, which was why my dad made all my clothes (ever seen a 2 year old with leather trousers and a mohican? I looked pretty awesome))). Anywho, my original point before I started rambling, is that I have practically been a goth since I was old enough to say so (I remember this one time when I was about 3, asking my dad if I could be a goth), and I'm still proudly flying the black flag, so in a nutshell, when emo came out, I was just thinkin', "man, this is crap. Alright mate, you enjoy yourself moping around Argos or some shit, I'll be over there chillin' in the sun with ma mates and ma girl, listenin' to some Skinny Puppy, gettin' stoned, looking nicer than you, and having a nice fucking time. Enjoy your angsty middle class disillusionment, you pillock." So essentially, emo is goth for pussies who can't quite squeeze into their skinnyjeans.

This is some music from actual Emo bands:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge8ucvLYLRc this is Rites of Spring, a mid-80's group that pioneered the (real) genre of Emo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGJFWirQ3ks this is Fugazi, who formed from the ashes of Rites of Spring after they split up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mUtFumAFI4 this is from Jawbreaker, a later period Emo/ Melodic Hardcore band.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGRdVyrTb_Q and here's Mineral, another late period Emo band from the mid-90's who bridged the gap between the end of Emo and the beginning of its close cousin Post-Hardcore.

This is what Emo was. Too bad it's dead.

I don't hate all Emos.

But I hate the whiny ones. Yeah, I get that you've gone through hard shit. Who hasn't? You just have to be a man[footnote]Or woman, this rant does not discriminate[/footnote], suck it up, and get on with your life. I certainly didn't cry about what happened to me, and you shouldn't either.

However, there are the emos that simply listen to different music then I, or dress differently or something like that. I have no problem with that. You can do whatever the fuck you want to your appearance, listen to whatever music you want to, it's a free country. Just keep your emotions to yourself, and don't go screaming to anyone who'll listen. What happens is that I feel sympathetic for the first few conversations, then I start purposely avoiding said people because, well, I either run out of things to say or just get embarrassed sitting there and not being able to do anything about it.
