Because all they do is whine about how the world sucks and about killing themselves and don't actually do anything to sort it out or change things. Essentially they just want the attention most of the time.
This, thay are mostly attention hores who try to act like mini goths.

Because without being hated.. emos wouldnt have anything to feel sad about and thus would not exist?

Sorry, have no sympathy for "baby goths"
yeah. this sums it all up for me too. Dang 'baby goths". I thought nobody used that turn besides me.

Doesn't the very word "emo" just piss you off? I mean, it has this annoying shriek-like sound to it in the beginning (eeeeeeee) tries to evolve into a sort of hum with the M, and then ends with a curt O as if saying "Well, we wrecked your ears enough so well, we're done."

Emo. Emo. Emo. Eeeeeeeemmmmoooooo, aaaugh.

I learned this lesson the hard way. My girlfriend had to save me from it in another form. People who complain about a problem but do nothing to try and stop it really do want the attention. Sad fact, but the girl I tried to help who was like that just manipulated me for about a month and put a difficult strain on my relationship.

So generally speaking, they (stereotypically) whine about life sucking but never try to make it any better. There are obviously exceptions, but for the most part, see above logic.

Thank you and good night.

Can't be arsed to trawl through six pages of back and forth regarding L'emos (as they are known in the French Provinces) so will leave my tight brown coil of opinion on the lawn and scarper.

Emo can refer to several related groups that some feel they relate to or belong to.

Emo - self harming mild depressive: This group could do with a collective hug. Worried by social problems or stigma (potentially paranoid), they resort to reliable despair and cheap pain based biochemical thrills (as opposed to expensive powder based ones.)

Emo - nerdy kid showing interest in some facets of "alternative" culture: This group will grow out of it. They may have been influenced by friends (especially those in my final sub-genus of emo) or television or, sweet baby Jesus forbid, the internet. They cannot identify with the "Grade one all over" tracksuit wearing types nor with the idols that their parents or peers bow to (probably not the same idols) so they conform to a new standard set by Gerrard Way. They may feel shunned by other groups and this angst ties them to the first group.

Emo - perfectly styled fringe wearer, glasses optional - This one was the first. He/she is the progenitor of the trend. They saw something that didn't exist in their locality (i.e American Pop-punk coming out of Smethwick) and decided they would spread it. That way, they will be flavour of the month and, when it grows to encompass those they share no love for, they can cast it off as "something I did yeeeeeaaaaarrrrssss ago". They know nothing of emotions, they are just in fashion.

To conclude; I propose the hatred deserved by each group increases as they distance themselves from actually being depressed. Self-harmers do no harm to anyone but themselves. Nerdy emo kids are always going to be the target of abuse from some groups, whether they are nerdy gymnasts or nerdy stoners or nerdy "subcategory". Those who base their personal appearance on social trends and the opinions of others are simply shallow and, ultimately, gleaming purple pork swords.

OT: I fucking hate emos.

Because the consensus on the matter is that emo's are bad and vapid and attention whores and they suck and are dicks, etc.
And because it is totally sweet to hate what everyone hates, everyone proceeds to do so. If everyone would stop doing what everyone is doing, then everyone would stop caring about people who don't actually harm anyone.

i dont hate goths. if you like dressing in black and wearing black nail polish and crap, i dont care... but i dont like emos for a few reasons.

1. they think their lives are so tough, even though most of them have better lives than most of us.

2. some of them think theyre being "non-conformist" by dressing in black and being all moody, even though that is basically them conforming to a specific social group and style.

3. ive actually seen emos brag about how terrible their lives are and show off their razor marks. its ridiculous

4. their crappy attitude often extends to those around them and brings people down. its a bummer and i dont like it

Some groups just trigger the collective unconscious, which is usually merciless in its mockery and criticism. I've never even talked to someone who identifies as an emo, not through avoidance, just through circumstance. It would be silly, then, for me to hate them. Perhaps others have found themselves encircled by roving gangs of emos, backed into a corner and viciously eyeliner'd, and so have good, grounded reasons for their prejudices. Who can tell!

Because I can't stand excessive whining?

If you think the way you live is shitty, listening to bad music and dressing in black may get a few stares, but attention doesn't solve shit. The ones that act 'emo' don't do anything worthy of note. I don't like the idea of a culture that does nothing but crave attention and consume black and white makeup.

Hello fellow escapists!
But why do we hate those who choose to wear black and dispise the conformus.
You do realise that since they all dress the same, act the same, look the same etc they are conformist too right?
Yep, it's just the same with hipsters. You can't be "ironic" as a hipster, because if you try to be ironic and dress "ironic" you fail. The only way a hipster can be ironic is not to be ironic. Unleash the paradox!

Because they think they are the most hate social group (That belongs to the jock, let's face it). They also think despising consensus makes them unique, lots of geeks do that.

You sound like an emo yourself. Do we need to fetch a priest and a flamethrower to commit cleansing?
Nope, I never was an emo, although I was depressed for three years a while back. Didn't do the dress in black and while thing. Now I'm much better now so that flamethrower won't be needed.
