Why are emos hated?

Emo is short for Emotional. That's the end of the story for me. I can't fault people for being emotional. When they whine constantly, yeah, that's pretty annoying. (Because there's no such thing as an annoying gamer or anything.) Still, people see the world differently. I can see how life would be depressing, although I'm happy with it. It isn't my place to tell somebody if their thoughts are right or wrong.

Here's what I think:
People dislike 'emos' because:
-their style is derived from goth
-their music isn't liked by a lot of non-emos
-they have the reputation of being suicidal
-the stereotype is they cry about their life which isn't entirely bad
-people find them strange because emo isn't the norm and many fear that which they don't know
-and 'emo' attracts a lot of tweens that are into Twilight and such

These aren't my thoughts on emos (I'm goth which apparently gets confused for emo), just reasons why people dislike the style (please no mod wrath)

I do hate it when people confuse emo and goth. They are not the same thing, period. I'm not part of the ranks of either, but jeez. That's like confusing Japan and China just because they're both in Asia. Also, yes, those were some excellent points. Well, they explain a lot - I don't agree with most of them.

There's the generally thought-of definition of 'emo' that is perpetuated by whiny teenagers and then there's........whatever the hell you're selling. They are both known by the moniker 'emo'.

There's a Plymouth in the UK and a Plymouth in the USA. They're both Plymouth.

Get over yourself, you can act snooty and claim to be 'true' emo all you want but if it isn't what springs to mind when the term 'emo' is stated then you aren't the only ones who can lay claim to that title.

Oh, also a word to the wise. Ranting in capitals? Not a great way to get your 'point' across, especially when that 'point' is laden with insults towards the people you're trying to convince.

They're cool.

OT: It all seems like a plea for attention and have yet to meet the one that isnt doing it for attention.

Genres grow into new things. Rock isn't what is was back in the 70s, emos are now different then what they used to be.

And, unfortunately for emos lovers, they are trendy ironic attention seeking conformists.

1) They stand for most teenagers in the way they complain about the state of their own life. Threatening to kill yourself because your girlfriend left you makes me want to kill you myself. There are far worse things yet kids don't seem to understand that living in Africa with aids and dying of starvation after seeing your family raped and murdered by Congo militia is far worse than having your whiny girlfriend leave you.

i dont hate anyone unless they can prove to me that they are worth hating, that means i hate indiviuals not groups.

However, i have met people who can be classed as "emo" and i disliked them for the simple fact they are overdramatic whingers, they can complain like their lives suck because their hair was done wrong when there are starving children in africa being besieged by civil war.

But im certain there are many people who can be classed as 'emo' and would be decent human bengs.

I have a theory.

I think it's because they act pathetic and openly display their weakness, which triggers a primitive urge to shun and hate them.

In Mankind's early history, and in a lot of animal packs, weak members of the group are shunned, euthanasised or left to die for the good of the group.

When we see people openly displaying their weakness it triggers a innate hatred for them because we subconsciously think they're a drain on our group and detrimental to the survival of our species.

Emos are like the polar opposite of alpha males, but infuriatingly it's not because of any disease, injury or birth defect, it's by choice, which makes most people subconsciously rage and hate them... they could be successful and productive members of the tribe, but instead they choose to act weak and wallow in self pity, and to make matters worse they whine and complain about it, blaming the rest of the tribe for their self inflicted pathetic state.

It's like Emos are trying to oppose nature's rule of 'Survival of the Fittest' which, like many other things that we perceive to be unnatural, we abhor.

I don't hate emos, I think they're immature, unimaginative and mostly spoiled. Not to mention that claiming to be an individual and hating the "conformists" while you yourself are basically acting exactly like everybody else in the group just makes you a hypocrit conformist.
