Why are russians always evil?

Because of residual feelings of hatred and mistrust and cultural biases left over from the Cold War. It all comes down to the Cold War. A long, embarrassing period of human history which I'm more than happy to forget about.

But that said, I really am sick of it. I mean, making Nazis evil is okay, it makes sense. Because they were evil. But Russians weren't evil, we were only taught they were because we were afraid of them nuking us into Fallout 3.

Which is why I'm so proud of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, a game in which the US military manages to be on the same battlefield with the Russian military, and not only do they not kill eachother, they're actually friends! I'm looking forward to that game, if just to be able to fight alongside Russian forces and against the anti-Russian stereotypes.

It's the culture. Russia, China, The Middle East all want to rule the world and basically turn everything into their culture on the global scale. Oftentimes with the other people living as second class citizens at the best, or being dead at the worst.

Now granted, the US ultimatly wants the same thing, so a lot of it is about competition. Our side against theirs. But at the same time there is the issue that we mostly do it through the spread of ideas. We don't really conquer anyone, or at least not nowadays (so no cracks about Native Americans).

What's more when you consider that we're willing to let everyone of all ethnicities live together as Americans that kind of gives us something of an advantage.

Add to this of course the amount of steam communism and socialism have been gaining in the US, not due to outside influance, but do to having hit some economic rough patches, and it becomes politic to highlight a lot of the problems.

The Middle East wants us all dead or enslaved on religious principles, China wants to conquer the world to be ruled by ethnic Chinese, and Russia wants to conquer the world to be ruled by an elite of Russians who will occupy the vaunted position of deciding what everyone else gets while taking the best for themselves due to their hardships all this time.

Also consider that Russia isn't truthworthy. They pretty much caused Desert Storm by backing Saddam and providing the training and manpower for him to break away from US Sponsorship (one of the reasons why Russia collapsed was the demonstration that their military wasn't all that they claimed it was, it was like Russia Vs. The US on a smaller scale). The made pretensions of embracing democracy but wound up flooding the world with organized crime cartels made up of the former Russian military and intelligence assets (which became a stock villain for a while). As if The Mafia, Yakuza, Triad, and other international groups weren't enough. Then because they didn't become wealthy and powerful immediatly due to democracy and capitolism (it was only a couple of decades), they decided to re-embrace their militant heritage, put an Iron-Man communist (actually a Socialist) into power, and start smacking around their former Satellite nations to try and re-build their "empire".

Overall there isn't much to like.

Generally speaking those who are in "support" of Russia are mostly Europeans who are involved in trade and benefitting right now (sort of like how France opposed The War On Terror due to backdoor trade with Iraq), naive peaceniks who believe in peace at any price, or closet commun-social-ists who think that Russia taking over the world would bring about their social utopia.

That said I'm far more concerned about China than Russia.

It's because Russia (and the Soviet Union before it) is the only force in the world capable of countering USA (not to mention completely obliterating it, along with the rest of the planet).
You are sadly misinformed; Russia has only a few allies were as the U.S has the majority of the EU. The only thing Russia could do in a war is to take everyones oil away.

China and Korea are more powerful than Russia.

Really.
Weren't more than half of Call of duty 5's enemies Japanese? I've seen a few games were the enemies are Imperial Japan.

many movies and games always show evil russians doing evil things. a seemingly russian-free plot will have them pop up somewhere

Probably because the Russian's were the US's last clear enemy. Now they don't have any real enemy just terrorism in general and terrorism is global so there is no way to focus on one country.

probably because most games with russians in it was made in america, and you people seem to have the sort of relationship with them as we brits have with the french, except that the russians are depicted as being the antithesis to everything you are

Team Fortress 2 depicts a HUGE Russian as a lovable kitten with a minigun.

Nothing evil.

To all the idiot yanks who posted about the cold war - you could have ended it.

And to the actual question: Got to agree with the accent.

I blame it all on their thick accents. Which sounds bad ass, don't get me wrong.
