Because of residual feelings of hatred and mistrust and cultural biases left over from the Cold War. It all comes down to the Cold War. A long, embarrassing period of human history which I'm more than happy to forget about.
But that said, I really am sick of it. I mean, making Nazis evil is okay, it makes sense. Because they were evil. But Russians weren't evil, we were only taught they were because we were afraid of them nuking us into Fallout 3.
Which is why I'm so proud of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, a game in which the US military manages to be on the same battlefield with the Russian military, and not only do they not kill eachother, they're actually friends! I'm looking forward to that game, if just to be able to fight alongside Russian forces and against the anti-Russian stereotypes.
