The original trilogy were about a noble group of civilians filling the roles of soldiers trying to overthrow a genuinely evil government depending on their bonds of friendship and common goals. A little romance. Suitable action sequences essential to the plot. And truly believable characters.

The new trilogy starts off with a romantic queens struggle for her peoples freedom but takes a left turn at "4th and Bananas" as Yahtzee would say and turns into a tale of a punk-kid trying to get up the queens skirt. And it focuses on that little pervert through a series of contrived set of reasons to blow shit up and kill off Jedi.

I'm ready to be flamed here, but I have to chime in, the prequel films sucked cause of the same reason that the original trilogy sucked. Crappy characters, crappy plot, and idiotic fanboys who seem to view them all as the be-all end-all of science fiction

For one there are entirely too many things happening on screen at once. Plus the fight scenes are choreographed too much and lack emotion. For comparison watch the final fight scene between Anakin and Obi Wan in Ep III, then watch the full fight scene between Luke and Darth Vader in Ep VI.

The scene in Ep VI has more emotion and shows a turning point in the film without having a lot in the background. The scene in Ep III is harder to follower b/c of all the crap in the background, the fighting feels artificial and there isn't any emotion (and no, Obi Wan yelling "you where the chosen one" doesn't count, yelling != emotion).

The prequels seem to be designed for younger audiences in mind, and there isn't anything wrong with that, but I prefer the older one.

Because they were kids or young adults when the first three movies came out. They associate Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi with the happy feelings that childhood can conjure up. These movies, no matter how good they really are, are a core part of a certain group of people's childhood and they do not like it when anyone, even the copyright owner, goes in and changes things.

Now, objectively, the final three movies made were just as good in the story department as the first three. Before any of you decide to go all super Saiyan on me, the only good story of the bunch is the Empire Strikes back and that was ghost written be Zahn.

The main reason i've found is nostalgia. all the haters are the people who saw the originals as children and since the prequels are kind of distant from that they hate it and believe george lucas raped there childhood. Sure the prequels have jar jar but look at return of the jedi remember that scene with the singing aliens? maybe its becausei saw the prequels growing up and have grown into a complete fanboy but the prequels arn't that bad.

(BTW first post)

I only really thought that III sucked and that was because of the bad plot and Vadors actor.

The first two I really enjoyed, Obi Wan Kenobi, Qui Gon Jinn, Darth Maul the Clone Wars, Jango Fett all brilliant.

But they tried to expand the audience by putting a "model" in such an inportant role and instead of conflicting comedy like with Han Solo they went for the slap stick for the young'uns, which gave us... dasa Gungans... which sucks as I like the underwater bit with the fishy beasts.

Also say what you will about Anikins actor but the final fight with Obi Wan was epic.

Also watch the Clone Wars cartoon series... TWAS EPIC!!!

Hmm...of the prequels I like Phantom Menace the most. It has a good visual villain (Maul) and focuses mainly on the two Jedi (Liam & Ewan). I always felt the Anakin/Padme storyline was more a subplot.
The Second (Attack of the Clones or whatever) was pretty awful. I don't know if its just me, but I felt like there where huge whopping holes in the story. Seeing it always makes me feel like I've missed a complete movie with backstory for one reason or another.
The Third movie starts of the same, but rather quickly gets back on track and focuses mainly on the transformation of Anakin to Vader and the rise of the Empire. I've been told the beginning is explained in some cartoon tv-series or something. I've always felt that this movie lacked a really good villain. Palpatine just don't pull it off.
Basically the original trilogy has a more consistant storyline where the prequel trilogy has massive holes smack down in the middle of it.

Moreover I never liked the emotionless jedi in the prequel. Liam Neeson somehow sidesteps that trap and becomes a more likable character instantly. But the others? Seriously. How are we supposed to root for these guys when they are basically emotionless robots.

And on a diffrent note: Why not make movies of the Timothy Zahn books, Thrawn Trilogy.

1 word, Midichlorians.

They raped the entire lore ffs. The force has been and always will be a mystic force no one really understands. An entity.

Had they just changed the explenation of midichlorians into "These micro-organisms are sensitive to the force, thus a person who has more of these symbiots will be more sensitive to the force,
Well they shouldve been more clear about it in the movies then. *Mutters* Cuz it sorta sounded like that those organisms were the force by the way he said it.

Midichlorians =/= the force. They're exactly what you said there; an indication of force potential.
For some reason my post wasnt posted, just the quote. Hmm, well what I said in reply was basicly "They should've been more clear with what they were as Pokemon Gin made it sound like the midichlorians WERE the force rather then what you just said.
Kind of. According to Wookiepedia "Midi-chlorians were intelligent microscopic life forms that lived symbiotically inside the cells of all living things. When present in sufficient numbers, they could allow their symbiont to detect the pervasive energy field known as the Force." So they are an indication but they also cause the connection.

I liked the prequels, Darth Maul was the man, as was Ewan McGregor. Hayden annoyed me tho. His voice is irritating. The original trilogy was prety good, but the fight scenes sucked. Harrison Ford is awesome tho

Man, I haven't seen that before, that was the best review I have ever seen for Ep1. Holy shit that bit at the end of the first one, describing the characters was amazing.

We've already linked Red Letter Media's exceptional reviews of Star Wars Episode I & II.
...That's everything that needs to be said. Further discussion is futile.
Futile, I say!

- Awful acting, mainly Hayden's fault.
- Too much green screen.
- Two-dimensional characters.
- Gungans.
- Silly plot devices, even more silly than the original films.
- Taking a totally different direction than the original trilogy; way more action, less story and character development.
- Horrible dialogue.

And probably some more. I myself don't hate them as much as most people and I generally find them pretty entertaining. Heck, the one that's seen as the worst, Phantom Menace, is actually my favourite prequel film. The reasons are simple:
- Far less green screen than the other 2.
- Anakin is an annoying kid, yes, but way less annoying than Emo Anakin.
- Liam Neeson.
- Darth Maul.
- Podracing.

And I don't mind the midi-chlorians that much. By the Nine people, they're just indications of Force sensitivity. They don't decide whether you're an awesome Jedi or anything, it has barely if anything to do with the Jedi and I don't see how they could take away so much of their mysticism.

There's no reason to hate them that much, there are far worse things about those movies.
I agree with every single thing you said my sir.
I take my hat off for you.
