Why are you generalizing all of us US gamers?

You should stop doing that.
I'm not generalising. I specifically said it pisses me off when I see people who live in the US complain about game prices. I never said all Americans piss me off because they all complain about game prices.
Have you read your thread title?

I've said three times now that I never said ALL Americans. If you read the topic title it says "Why do people from the US" not "Why do Americans"

People in Australia and Europe would kill to get those kinds of prices.
Killing over Video Games seem to be little bit extreme don't you think?

OT. As everyone said before, We have an ass of an economy. Its hard to land a job here. People don't have as much disposable income anymore. When I was a kid, My parent had money to burn constantly. As of 2006, It's not like that anymore. And then we have "Supply and Demand". Gamers want games(Duh), Game companies have games (Duh-Duh). Wouldn't you raise prices knowing that people are going to buy the product even as the prices rise? You will make a larger profit that way. So lets add it up, shall we?:

Low income + High Prices. Seems worthy to complain about, right?

"People from the US" are Americans. Just like people from Australia are Australian.

Would it not be a generalization if I said "Why are people from Australia evil?" You don't actually have to use the word all for the subject of the sentence to be inclusive of an entire group. One simple little addition of the word some would have changed everything, for example "Why do some people in the US constantly complain about game prices?" wouldn't be a generalization. "Why does anyone in the US complain about game prices?" again, not a generalization. "Why do people from the US constantly complain about game prices?" is a generalization. I fully get that you where not intending to make one or I would quite a bit harsher, I just wanted you to understand that post title reads that way. Now you already said you didn't intend for it to read that way so I tried to helpfully point that out to you with minimal fuss.

Now should we talk about why you choose to respond in such a passive aggressive manner?

I dunno, they have no idea what over the top prices are though. $120AUS in Australia for a game does not translate to the amount you pay normally Americans.

The main complaint I've noticed is that within the last console generation, prices for new HD (PS3 and XBOX 360) games has gone from $50 to $60.

Alot of people see this as unwarranted but keep in mind that back in the NES days, a new game could go $60. And I'm gonna guess the average NES game has less replay value than the average modern game (Retro fanboys, don't take this as an insult, I'm a retro gamer myself and I love the NES but it's just a fact. Games typically have more content now, that isn't reflective of the quality of the game)

So yeah, the price of games is always fluctuating and is based simple on supply and demand, but to most gamers it seems pretty arbitrary. That's why we complain I suppose.

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure the value of the US dollar to Euro is in the Euros favor, and last I heard a British pound is around double the US dollar. So if I'm right (which I really don't know if I am) UK gamers are spending less. Of course we'll complain

Because it's still money that we have to pay.

"Why can't I pay nothing! Better yet, why can't you pay me to buy your game?!"

People will complain about anything. Get over it.
Seriously man, I only got paid $75 to get Half-Life 2 when they should have been paying me at least triple that!

Also, Australia isn't in the Western World

OT: I don't buy new games, I wait for those nice steam deals to get stuff since I'm a PC gamer. Also, ours may be cheaper, but you've also got to look at how much money the average person has to spend in those countries against how much we do, theres more than just greed that dictates prices.
lol you're smarter than the average bear, thats for sure.

Yeah, we Aussies aren't in the western world, we're technically in THE FUTURE! Think about it, what are the shipping prices to ship something, not only around the world, but also into the future?
By the time it's wednesday in America, it'll already be Thursday here.

Firstly because I've had to explain that point several times throughout the topic which means people aren't reading through it anymore, hence why I edited the first post. I have acknowledged that its message comes across incorrectly but I keep getting lampooned for it.

Secondly I interpreted your blunt statement as agressive, which I wasn't in the mood for at the time so that's another error on my part. If you'd said "Have you read your thread title? Your message is confusing" I would've understood.

I can defiantly see how you would interpret it that way if you where fed up with people asking. Funny how our own emotional states seems to color what we read so much. In a trashy mood someone could take almost anything as an insult.

I live in a country where minimum wage per DAY is less than 6 USD. while in the states you get 6-8 USD per HOUR.

Not to mention that we have to deal with import taxes, and having to rely on local tinkers to repair our consoles, because shipping them to the Japan or USA or whatever country that console came from would cost more than it worth.

Well, the bottom line is,you guys have it easier than me.

i gotta say this in your original post your wrong about the uk pricing no game is that expensive on launch, most games average about £35-£40 and the onlt time youd be paying more than that is if you ordered from a catalouge.

also just so you know sc2 is £34.99 and reach is £39.99.

Between There and There.
Country
The Wide, Brown One.
Can we get a few people from even poorer countries chipping in?

Personally, I'm not going to be satisfied until someone from the Democratic Republic of Congo (currently listed as the having the lowest average wage in the world by the IMF and World Bank... CIA World Fact Book gives it to Zimbabwe) and tells EVERYONE to shut up.

We complain because we don't just sit down and take it up the ass when we feel something is unfair. Fuck you for asking us to be apathetic; we shouldn't suffer just because you do.
No one suffers, you people just like to complain. Thats why i love england, we dont take ourselves SUPER SUPER SERIOUS like america does. When american people think something this is how i imagine they see their actions.
In england we dont take ourselves so uber serious, also we dont complain about everything. Truely it is the most privilaged that have the time to do the most complaining.
"MY LIFE IS SO EASY I NEED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT STUFF!"
In england we go "meh, its a bit expensive but you know its a good product and cost a lot to make" and get on with our lives, and everyones a little bit happier.

I'm not sure. Prices for games in Dubai are much more reasonable. Max they can go to is 269 dirhams, but a lot of people use the local online auction services such as Souq.com. Here's what's funny though is a lot of things in Dubai happen to be cheaper than in the States/Canada, depending on what it is or how old it is. Unfortunately, things that are banned here also happen to have a huge black-market value as well. When God of War III came out, it cost something like 300+ dirhams. Almost 100 dollars.

because 60 $ for a game that is going to have a shitload of downloadable content(which i still think is bullcrap) is a crime. Pure and simple.
