Plus, with the way I walk up to my similarly dressed, similarly attituded (i know its not a word) friend, and use the classical "I saw a mud crab the other day" conversation from oblivion with the blandness (and accent) of actual Oblivion npc's, I have to say that I cant blame them.
Ah man! I can relate! Oblivion is a such a wonderful game it's hard not to get lost in the real world.

I hear this rumor alot. Guess because the people who are Hard Core Gamers dress with big jackets and are "anti-social." I would know, people associate drugs + gaming + me because of how I act. Which is complete separation from most people.
Haha good to know I'm not alone with hearing this rumor.

I can't stand them, but I've heard their meat is good.

On topic tho, I've never heard anybody say this is true but I've seen it a little bit. Mostly I think it's because people who refer to themselves as "hardcore" gamers clearly don't have a good grasp on reality and therefore are assumed to have some sort of drug-induced mental deficiency. Yes, that's correct, I just took a shot at "hardcore" gamers.

I understand why people would relate just me to this terminology because I dress like the 60s never went away and I really only listen to classic rock music, but when I ask people for other reasons they say because I play a lot of video games. I have never been high, but the point of this discussion is why is playing video games another reason for this assumption? The reason I can draw from it is that some imagery found in games could be very trippy or insane to comprehend while high.

EDIT: Also tell me if people relate you to something you aren't and some of their reasons why.

Let me know what you think.
You should get high.

Because Xbox Live is filled with kids who like to pretend they're older, cool, and smoke pot.

Actually, I've been mistaken for a stoner a lot because I tend to be a lot more relaxed than everyone around me, it stems from a personal philosophy of trying to get through each day without making someone else's worse.

But yeah, I'd have to say, most of the other gamers when I was in high school also got clumped together with the pot heads, maybe it has something to do that we constantly make reference to imaginary monsters and problems... or something like that.

I have found that I am more in tune with reality and my society/surroundings than the same people who look at me funny for being a gamer.

I work in the music industry so I know a lot of completely chemically altered individuals, and I can say with some authority that the two pastimes do have quite a few common threads. Games and drugs are both about altering reality so that you enjoy it more. I mean, come on - think about it - this is a gaming forum and it's called "The Escapist"! Talk about driving the point home! Gaming isn't just synonymous with drugs, gaming pretty much IS drugs.

people assume that im gay and violent, the gay thing kinda makes sense since im very open about my feminine side and my local bar is a big gay hangout too and im pro gay rights.

and that kinda makes the violent thing weird, i have asked people about it and the best thing they can say is "just something about you".

So your saying The Elder Scrolls = Marijuana and Call of Duty = Cocaine?

That's probably just coincidental. I would say not related. Gaming and drugs, on the other hand...

Well, I'm not sure about those but WoW is definitely crack. And EVE is surely crack with some really bad brown acid mixed in there.

People think I'm gay too, I guess it's because I have a "bromance" (what does that even mean?) With my friends.

i think a bromance is a homosexual relationship whit out sex but whit everything else or two men who are friends whit benefits, but im far from sure.

I've never related games to drugs... well except for Noby Noby and Katamari.
Yeah, but in the case of KAatamari, wasn't that kind of their intention? As for Noby Noby, I've only heard tiny things about it... from Penny Arcade. I'm probably gonna wiki it right now.
