Because I can stop gaming any time.

...And we know that's a lie.

I've never related games to drugs... well except for Noby Noby and Katamari.
And tetris, it's the closest virtual incarnation of crack you'll ever get.

P.S. Your avatar is...entrancing. Looks cool.
Ah thanks, Fanboy made it for me.
Oh shoot you're right. I have compared games to crack before (like Meteos).

I believe a man in Korea died from neglecting his body to play either WOW or Starcraft, know there was a Chinese couple who's baby died because they played WOW to the point it starved to death.

I've never heard of gamers being called potheads for their gaming tendencies. However, I have noticed that "hardcore gamer" is usually defined as people who play a nonsensical amount of FPS's, like HALO. I have also noticed that many "in-crowd" people in my school own 360s, and therefore play HALO, COD, etc., and consider themselves hardcore gamers. I have lastly noticed that these "in-crowd' folk also tend to smoke weed or do other drugs.

So the assumption that all hardcore gamers are potheads is false, obviously; it is just coincidental that people who proclaim themselves hardcore gamers also happen to smoke weed.

I'd have never done 4000 hours on a single character in Morrowind without the ounce of weed every two days.

It must be a strange coincidence that as my habit went, so did my love for gaming!

i have had people equate gamers to being all fat people with mental disorders.
then again, im fairly sure the guys that think that have trouble adding and subtracting in math, and dont know how to think thoughts beyond treat people like crap, drink beer, eat, sleep, repeat

Gamers are usually men in their early 20's which coincides with the biggest stoner demographic. Also we like to stay home and sit on the couch and I ran out of movies to watch years ago.

Its what it does to people. It makes them addicted. Therefore it is a narcotic.

psychonauts (a term based more around psychology, maybe psychosis--i'm not too sure, i haven't played it but i've heard enough about it) could also be linked to psychedelics (drugs to alter the outlook of the world around us, and the world within ourselves--no way of saying that without sounding like a hippie). plus, look at the box art for that game. it looks like an acid trip spilled out of someone's head onto a canvas!

i wouldn't be surprised if some people at rockstar were stoners

I understand why people would relate just me to this terminology because I dress like the 60s never went away and I really only listen to classic rock music, but when I ask people for other reasons they say because I play a lot of video games. I have never been high, but the point of this discussion is why is playing video games another reason for this assumption? The reason I can draw from it is that some imagery found in games could be very trippy or insane to comprehend while high.
Why can't I meet the people from the Escapist in real life?!

i dont generally relate gamers, let alone "hardcore", even though i hate that term, to pot-heads at all.

gamers are just that - gamers. we've come to the point in society where anyone can play games, so it's just stupid to generalize and lump everyone into the same category.

it'd be like associating basketball players with short people - sure, there are some short players, but definitely not the majority.

I think i know why. there was a movie a few years back called Grandma's Boy, it was about a bunch of hardcore gamers who were HEAVY potheads. It was a good movie but i did start noticing the affiliation soon after. Also alot of peaople think all hardcores are fat people. How they get that i don't know i couldn't get thinner without being 2dimensional.

Because a lot of us 'potheads' (I loathe that phrase and all it implies, but I digress and rant) are heavy gamers. I think its more accurate to say weed smokers tend to play games, rather than gamers tend to smoke weed.

The two do go together well, except when some bullshit context sensitive bit masquerading as a cut scene kills you when your having a quick tootle on your joint instead of pressing X at the appropriate time (I'm looking at you resi5- is it a cutscene? Is it part of the game? Make your fuckin mind up because I want to put the kettle on!)
Whooo! Someone else understands my plight! QTE's during cutscenes are an atrocious idea. It's frickin hard to light a bowl when you have to suddenly spring back to the game.

Fucken Love that Movie

Turns out, being stoned leads to a few things, and gaming is one of the prominent examples. If you're a big stoner, then, you'll play a lot of games, more than likely. You play a lot of games, you're eventually going to get better from it, and everntually going to get labeled something along those lines. You just have to remember that there's plenty of other things you can do--it't not just about being stoned on the couch, playing games.

Plus, being a tad stoned can make the game much more fun.

EDIT: Also tell me if people relate you to something you aren't and some of their reasons why.

Let me know what you think.
quite simply because one of the worlds most successful and popular game franchises , Super Mario Bros., was influenced by pot and other illicite substances.
