I didn't hate them but compared to the origonals they:

Lacked fun and took themselves *far* too seriously

Tried to explain everything (midi fucking clorians!) when it would have been better just to leave it to the audience to decide for themselves.

They were aware of the merchandising potential so the stories went; impenetrable political bullhonky, BUY SOME SHIT, impenetrable political bullhonky BUY SOME SHIT.

As acrobatic show off pieces, yes they were impressive, but I didn't find any of them really... well... engaging.

Another question I'd like to ask is, did anyone think making yoda fight was a bad thinking for the series? For me it seems like George Lucas ruined (yet again) Yoda's image and philosophy from this old wise and perhaps even, pacifistic jedi master, into a fanboy wet dream.

Open with a joke: Im surprised PETA doesnt step in and interfere because of inhumane treatment of cash cows.
Seriously now, think of it like a joke (not calling Starwars a joke BTW) no matter how good the joke is, if you keep telling it over and over, it WILL get tired and run down. This is something that George cant see because a giant check is blocking his view.

No matter how great and wonderful something once was, everything will eventually die. But now, George Lukas is set on playing puppet with the corpse.

I wonder if people realise just how big a thorough trolling Jar Jar Binks is. He not only survives the first three films, BUT HE'S NABOO'S REPRESENTATIVE TO THE EMPEROR AT THE TIME OF EPISODE SIX.

Seriously.

AND HE'S STILL ALIVE AFTERWARDS AND HAS YET TO DIE IN THE CONTINUITY.

Well they just didn't have that same feeling of fun. They were always so brooding and politically orientated. Yeah they had Yoda fighting and Christopher "OHMYGOD" Lee but it just felt as if it was pandering to all diehard fans.
You know the diehard fans hated them right?
Yes, the irony did not escape my attention.
To be more clear, ever core design decision was hated by the hardcore fans, the lightsaber fights being about extensive planning and training rather than an expression of an emotional struggle. The characters being hallow representations of the characters we were told about. The Force becoming SCIENCE!!!! instead of the mysterious magical force it began with (reducing it into a "mine is bigger than yours therfore im better" fight).

I didn't hate it. Actually, I barely liked the ORIGINAL trilogy (only because I got into it at an older age, and by then...well...I guess sci fi isn't my thing) and the prequel trilogy was actually a part of my childhood (i was about 8/9 when Episode 1 came out?). So I liked the prequels. Though Hayden Christensen is kinda a *****, and Jar Jar Binks godawful. Seriously, he was meant to appeal to kids, I WAS A KID WHEN I FIRST SAW HIM, AND I FUCKING HATED HIM.
You know star wars isnt Sci-fi right?

...really? Lasers, fantastical elements, super powers, aliens...sorry, my bad, I presumed. Like mentioned, I'm not reaaaalllyyyy a Star Wars guy.
"Fantastical Elements" = not sci-fi. Sci-fi = Science Fiction. Something like Star Trek or Stargate. Star Wars is a Fantasy set in space. The force is essentially magic with no scientific explanation (Despite what Lucas wants us to believe) therfore Star Wars is not Sci-Fi.

Yes. I am aware of this. To be frank, what were you expecting? You only had to see the rereleases of the original trilogy to see that Lucas was constantly evolving his universe to what he really wanted to show. Besides, the whole trilogy was set in the past! Ideas change, I dont see how everything you mentioned is exclusive to that. Is it realy so hard to believe that everything before the original was somehow eradicated by some facist empire?

...Wait. Why am I talking bout this? The movies were stupid. Why should I go beyond that? Fans didn't like what they got, they pouted and Lucas sat back into his chair made outta theiry money.

Because Hayden Christensen was a whiny little ***** whom ruined my view of Darth Vader, terrible writing, wooden or over-the-top emotion, and Jar Jar Binks.

That is all.
*Sigh* Darth Vader...he got his start as a whiny ***** boy...*cuts wrists* T_T
why is everybody complaining about teenage spoilt-brat-emo anakin? think about it, it makes sense, if he's going to grow up to be as evil as Darth Vader it only makes sense that he'd start out like that...true Hayden Cristenson (not sure of the spelling) did a terrible job with bad dialogue, but the character was well-written, his emo insecurities make him desperate to save Padme and that desperation and fear turns him into a ruthless killer that will stop at nothing to gain the power to do what he beleives is right

although I will admit that the overindulgence in CGI and the whole midiclorean thing did ruin it, I still don't think the prequel trilogy was as bad as everyone says it was
The problem with it was that sure the spoiled brat does turn out to be an evil villain cue works fine, but a Tragic fall from hero to Villain would make him all that much better. Mind you the Clone wars did portray that part well especially with how he killed all the sand people in vengence of his mother, but now that I look at it I can kinda see where you're going with this.
If anything Anakin took the Sasuke Uchiha path and instead of forgiveness he chose vengence. But I think what made that transistion so hard for me was the fact that the first Anakin was a friggin angel!! Like a do no harm type of kid. Either way good point sir.

I wouldn't say I "Hated" the prequals but they're definitely not worthy of the title Star Wars. Like many others here have said already, I hated how Lucas turned one of the most iconic villians in all movie history into an emo-whiney ***** and totally fucking up how the force works!
Aside from that, I hate how so many of the characters in the prequals are COMPLETELY UNLIKEABLE!!!!!
It really pulls you out of the movies and makes you wish that these fools would get knocked off. I'm not meaning the likes of Obi-Wan, Yoda or Mace Windu, they were fine. But when its compared to the originals we have characters like Luke, Han, Chewbacca, Leia, Lando, Wedge and so on, they were so likeable and thats why we remember them. I barely remember any of the characters from the prequals because I couldn't get myself to like them!

Everyone is saying that Hayden Christensen ruined Darth Vader. I'm pretty sure the moment I wrote off the whole trilogy and ever liking Vader again is at the end of Revenge of the Sith... I'm sure you all know what scene I'm talking about, and Hayden's not in it.

Looking into the air and yelling "NOOOOOO!" is so cliche (and was at the time) jokes satirizing it were getting a little old. It's the type of stuff you expect out of a bad 80's Stallone movie. Why on earth would you think that it's a good idea to have Darth Vader, perhaps one of the most iconic villains of all time, screech out in cliched horror using James Earl Jones, apparently channeling Hayden Christensen (I like the guy, but he phoned it in). It could have been the climax of the entire first trilogy. The birth of Darth Vader. Nerd-gasms galore could have been had. Failure.

How's this for an ending? You keep the same scene, only at the very point that they put the mask on Vader, everything goes black after a small hold on the mask. You hear the iconic Vader breath. Then roll the credits to the Imperial March instead of the Star Wars Theme. It was there...they filmed it...but they went for more and looked ridiculous. And that's the problem with the whole first trilogy.

Also, CGI will never beat well-crafted analog effects. They look really cool...if I were playing a video game, but compared against the filmed actors, CGI typically looks way too over-the-top and terribly fake.
