Why doesn't the iPod touch get recognition as a handheld gaming console?

This is why I'm not bothering with you. You didn't even read the original post all the way through, as is evident from me having to post this for you again. I gave you a list of games, which if you're not retarded you can easily look up by typing the titles into Google. No link is necessary. You didn't even read the first post on the thread before you responded, and then you started making shit up, and you haven't changed since.

It's very simple.

The Itouch/Iphone/Whatever simply does not have a lineup of highly engaging full length games, it's pretty much just things like Paper Toss and Papijump.
No. It's not. Sheesh, do people not read the thread. Assassin's Creed. Assassin's Creed 2. Splinter Cell Conviction. Alpha Protocol. Broken Sword Director's Cut. The Sims 3. Civilization Revolution. Street Fighter 4. Chaos Rings. Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars.

I'll start taking the ITouch seriously as a gaming platform when it takes itself seriously as a gaming platform and actually hosts a number of quality games that aren't based off of spending less than five minutes trying to earn as many points as possible to get a spot on a leaderboard.
So to make this true, you've been taking the iTouch seriously for the past year. Got it.
Those are all big franchises, but their Itouch versions all suck horribly.

When it has some good games and not just crappy versions with the same name as good games on other platforms, I'll be interested.

Think what you want, but the lack of any good games is the reason it's not taken seriously as a gaming platform.

This is true. I cannot believe the number of feverish posts you have made in defense of the iPod, and by default Apple.

Yahtzee said it well: Apple is a big boy now; it doesn't need defending.

All I have to do is use Google to confirm your facts? Funny, because I DID THAT for your PSP battery comment and it was DEAD WRONG!. And you're right, "even a retard could use Google" which means that EVEN A RETARD COULD PROVE THAT YOU LIED ABOUT THE PSP BATTERY LIFE maybe that's something you shouldn't advertise to all of the thread readers! So maybe you should stop being such an arrogant narcissist and start backing up your comments with sources, since it's already been proven that you have been wrong at least once!

Anyway, back to the point, the reason it's a crappy gaming platform is because the motion control is not suited for traditional games (traditional games have a choose-and-select interface, and the motion control lacks precision), it has barely any good games (if you mention some, you better back it up with reviews from reputable well known sources) it's expensive, it has very few multiplayer options if at all, it's battery is bad, and very few if any major developers are taking interest.

I find it strange that you act like you're better than everyone else when you've been proven to have said something false at least once and still refuse to cite your sources, it's unbelievable, if you don't want to respond to my points, I'll chalk that up to a "I have no legitimate response because you're right" but if you do want to respond, I expect to see citations instead of your normal spew of falsehoods.

I didn't make anything up, (And I posted the links to prove it!) and a list of games is irrelevant to the specific conversation we've been having, I want citations for the things you claim are true in our discussion so that you stop making up lies like the PSP battery life being 3 hours!

To supplement my other quote, I'd like to ask WHAT EXACTLY DID I MAKE UP!?

If you can't prove that anything I said was wrong (using a citation) then everyone on this thread will know you just accused me of making things up when I did nothing of the sort.

Don't make accusations you cannot back up, I know you can't back it up because it's simply not true, I didn't make a single thing up, you're the one who for some reason is incapable of posting any links.

The iPod Touch is a gaming console. Hell, my TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator is a gaming console.

I just personally don't like it. Any game that can possibly be on there has either cut too many corners to be on the DS, or taken a slice of pie from the casual gaming industry. Plants vs Zombies is pretty good, but it cut way too much content from the PC version, in my opinion, and the touch controls make me feel like I'm Homer Simpson and therefore clearly too fat to even dial a phone number because the collateral damage from my evidently sausage-like fingers always end up hitting other buttons. This could have been fixed with the DS stylus, and the additional horsepower you'd get on the DS could leave room for the PC content.

Like I said, any worthwhile game that is on the Touch can be on the DS and give you the same amount of portability.

That is why I dislike the Touch, but still acknowledge it, as a gaming console.

I like the ipod touch more than the DS because it has games that I like to play when I am on the go, I bring it around anyways for the music and videos and it is much smaller. The DS has great games I will play when I am lying around the house but I use the ipod more.

Mostly because the games aren't really games. They're usually small apps that allow you to fling a ragdoll around or are small-scale ripoffs of other games.

That you can only use the DS for playing games when you're at home is incredibly unsettling.

To play the devil's advocate though, the damn thing is shaped like a brick. I've seen netbooks that fit better in your back pocket.

You just described the Wii.

Good job.

I'm pretty sure the Wii doesn't have any ragdoll simulators. And at least most Wii games have the tendency to not end after the fifth stage.

I still have the DS Phat. The ipod touch is a credit card compared to that. My DS cannot hold my 4000 songs and large number of tv shows and movies. It also does not have access to internet so I would have to carry around both because I always have my ipod on me.

That's a question with a very simple answer: It really, really sucks at gaming.
It could only be more true if it was said by Steve Jobs himself.

Actually, there is a browser, but I digress.

Those features are superfluous in a gaming console, which we seem to be discussing. The DS is relatively portable, and as a GAMING CONSOLE, is in every way superior to the iPod Touch, is what I'm getting at.

In any case, I use my cheapass cellphone + Micro SD card for all of the features described above.

What it ultimately boils down to is that the games on the Touch are just flash games that don't want to be called flash games. To call the iPod Touch a prominent gaming console would be to call the TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator a prominent gaming console as well because I play shitloads of tetris to pass time in class.

That the games are crap. You didn't have time to go out and buy an iOS device and play all the games to come to that conclusion between posting that it had no titles at all to saying that none of them were any good. End of story.

Street Fighter IV, Ultraviolet Dawn and Minigore are all games that wouldn't work at all on the DS.

I completely disagree. I don't play games to get hand cramps or blisters. In fact I like to stay quite pain free playing games. The dinky action buttons on the DS very quickly cause blisters, and using the touch screen for anything without stylus is very unergonomic. Sure the stylus only games work fine but you might as well make a device with only a touch screen then, and there the iPod touch is better since it has multitouch support.

Now the PSP has fairly decent controls and doesn't result in the same sort of blisters that the tiny buttons on the DS cause, but it's unviable as a portable gaming system. Using a PSP-2000 plugged in to the wall via charger and with video out to a TV would work just fine, as that pretty much eliminates all the down sides it has from a design perspective in terms of a portable system.

What it ultimately boils down to is that the games on the Touch are just flash games that don't want to be called flash games. And we have another person who doesn't actually know the types of games that are available on iOS.

If you're getting blisters from the DS, it's probably because the system you received took a detour through Hiroshima before reaching your hands, and those are the results of radiation. I can't possibly imagine how else you can get blisters on those things.

The stylus is indeed ergonomically shit. But I personally don't play games for the comfort, and to the extent that the DS is so uncomfortable for you that you'd rather play silly flash games is to the extent that you are losing in physical capacity to millions of schoolchildren and elderly women.
