I've just been inspired by the poll of people saying they don't do drugs, and kudos to you people for standing up for... something....
Thing is, as a recreational drug user myself... *SNIP*

I had 1. Repeat, 1 drink.
I was stumbling and light headed as if I were punch drunk. Needless to say it was the night before my cousin's wedding...
But during my drunken stumble to my hotel room, it dawned on me, that if I smoked weed, fecal matter would hit the oscillator for me.

Because drugs cost too much money, and I'm not much on not being in complete control of what I'm doing.

I don't have any reason to. Well, that and I like my brain chemistry to be the way nature intended... NOT screwed up by foreign substances.

I'm also fond of passing random srug screenings at work so I can keep my job.

as dumb as it is...the only drug i will take is claratin for alergies.(if i do not have i will be useless for 3 months straight) and soda... the caffene...
Wont take Tylenol at all...rather be in pain and have a headache then take a pill.
Main reason...if you take a pill for everything.....Everything will hurt... im 17 and havnt taken a pill in years...nothing will hurt for more than an hour at a time really.. no weed or much drinking either because i like to feel like i have control of my body and not falling around...never smoked anything before and dont plan on it

I'd lose my job. Even if that wasn't an issue I keep thinking back to how I acted at a party years ago after consuming too much alcohol, I don't ever want a repeat of that. Drugs damage your mind and cause you to lose focus. They're not for me.

A variety of reasons.
When I was younger, I was ardently against drugs of any form. Though I recognize now that pot and psychedelics aren't too bad, I feel like I would be going back on my beliefs and values.

I dislike the uncertainty of being intoxicated. Being extremely drunk, for example, is not something I enjoy.

And I wish to pursue a career in law enforcement, so I'm trying to keep my nose clean. ;)

Almost all of my friends use drugs. That's their choice, and I respect it.

They have never really appealed to me enough to actually use any. If made legal i might be more inclined but until that day. Nope.

"How can you know if they appeal to you if they never tried them!"

Because they don't. Rough sex with a buffalo does not appeal to me and i sure as shit have never tried it.
This is the best thing I have ever read.

As for the question, I am a writer. My mind and its state are the most important things to me. I hate being loopy after surgery because I'm not myself, so I would never do anything to alter my mind for the hell of it.

I do not see the enjoyment of wasting brain cells and money. I tasted wine. It tastes like crap. I don't even have to taste beer to know it tastes far worse.

Alcohol is an aquired taste I really don't want to aquire.

Drugs are a level of stupid I don't want to get to.

I don't need an artificial/external stimulant to enjoy stuff. Plus, its kinda a spiritual taboo for me. Of sorts.

I respect my mind and body. Buy consuming drugs and alcohol one puts unnecessary stress on them. With drugs in particular you never know what you are actually getting unless you are the source, so there is great risk, and they are illegal.
I also dislike the crime associated with the distribution of some, the costs involved, the risks of either psychological or physical addiction, and see no reason to take them. I don't need chemicals to make me happy / sociable.

If you want to be taken seriously in this and any other matter I would suggest refraining from insulting people with different views then yours and calling people ignorant for not thinking like you think.

No, I didn't read your whole post. After insulting someone directly for not even insulting you OR drug users, he was poking fun at his friends, and openly saying he didn't mean to be taken offensively and that he knows you can make your own choices Topping it off with calling people with different beliefs ignorant i decided the rest wasn't worth reading.

Clam down.

Stop insulting people.

Never use the word ignorant.

You want to be taken seriously in a serious discussion follow those rules.

The "insult" was supposed to be ironic. I was turning the tables on someone who had insulted their friends and generically grouped weed users into a stereotypical category. I personally have no reason to insult anyone on these forums, no matter how bigoted their views, since I don't know anyone personally. If you had read the rest of my post, you would have realised that I meant to provoke intelligent debate. I simply ask people to justify their reasons for saying "drugs are bad" without realizing (most of the time) the bigger picture.

Ignorant = lack of knowledge.

Ignorant does N0T mean stupid etc.

Therefore when someone lacks knowledge about a matter, it is not an insult to call them ignorant. Ignorant is simply a state of mind that can be improved upon with research and knowledge. Without trying to sound demeaning, I would think that most of the people answering this topic are "ignorant" about drugs (note, I say most) simply because they have not had a long history of experience with them. After all, the name of the topic is "Why DON'T you do drugs?".

Now that I have explained the intent behind my obviously misinterpreted words, perhaps you yourself admit that most of the posts here are ill-researched and ignorant in the factual sense.

As I also stated in my carefully written post which you hastily judged not worth a read, you have a right to question me, and question everything. I am hardly infallible, but I do have years of experience behind me when it comes to this particular matter. It is frustrating to see the same comments repeating over and over, with no justifications behind them, simply a FEAR of the word "drug".

This is a controversial topic, so I expected heated replies.

Ok short(*looks again at post after writing it*, man was I a hypocrit for calling this thing short!) personal version answer:

Let's take smoking. It's bad for your health(I really think no one denies that), and it is addictive. Considering there is no such thing as a casual smoker(I will never believe anyone who tells me there is such a thing), by poor(you guy's are gonna tell me I'm wrong, and I'm gonna go all "you can't change my mind", and in the end no one's opinion will change an we both will get banned so I'll just use the term "poor" to give a certain amount of truth to both parties) analogy there is no such thing as a casual drug user. A thing I know about addicts is that they will never ever confess to being ones, so there is no way to determine if the "casual" user is actually a "casual" one just by asking him. For people that don't use drugs(I don't even ever drink because it makes me depressed), a black and white approach is more easy, and less head hurting, when regarding the subject(we just go "drugs are bad";"don't go there"; moral dilemma solved; back to work).
Well that's my take on the matter, so I might be 100% wrong because it is a subjective and personal opinion(I'm in no mood to argue, or make enemies)

I don't hate people how use drugs(I'm more of a love person), I just think they are doing something bad(like my father that I love, but is a smoker so I feel sad for him) that I can't change and therefore I shouldn't interfere.
The only problems I have with people that use drugs, is that sometimes they seem a threat to me(I don;t care if they're a threat to themselves, I'm only interested in me, number 1).

Examples:
1) Some friends of mine usually feel bad, and disrespect me when I turn them down for a drink or a cigar, or a piece of pot(once of them actually became violent and tried to threaten me into drinking)
2) I know a marijuana user that once offered me a lift home(he was high, and drunk), and he was really angry that I turned him down. I mean I have no problem with people getting high or drunk, but when they go driving under such conditions, I'm sorry if I consider them a threat, and a menace.
Oh and this isn't something he does occasionally, this is his hobby. At least once a weekend he goes for a drive while drunk or high.

Ok case closed, and I'm awaiting(although not welcoming) all your negative reactions to my post.
no, you got it right.

It's mostly because of the fact that if you buy drugs you support criminals.
The "criminal" who sells me my drugs is a 20 year old Biology major in my apartment building who slings a little fire so he can afford to pay for WoW and GameFly every month. He gets it from a legal distributor in California.
I hate to burst your bubble, but the person who you are getting it from is a criminal. He is selling a controlled substance without a licence, to someone without a permit, (2 crimes), is undoubtedly not keeping tax records (3 crimes) and is trafficking drugs (4 crimes).
