I just never saw the appeal, was all. *shrugs* Also, the smell of marijuana bothers my nose. Makes me sneeze. And I hate the taste of alcohol.

I've tried alcohol and pot. I don't buy pot, but might smoke if my friends are. The feeling I get isn't great, but is sometimes interesting. As for alcohol, I'm 22, so I buy it every once-in-a-while, but never on a regular basis. Maybe once or twice a month I'll buy beer or liquor.

I drink on a regular basis, but I haven't done an illegal substance in...three or so years. Why I don't do them anymore is more because of a few things. One I wasn't enjoying myself anymore so that was a great stigma to stop. The second reason is because the recreational use I did with my friend and cousin triggered my cousin's schitzophrenia and so it leaves a proverbial bad taste inb my mouth whenever I even think of doing drugs.

I don't do drugs because I'm not old enough. I think I'll experiment with marijuana just to see the effect, but that's pritty much it.

Well, I use drugs as nicotine, alcohol and caffeine. But those are legal and grat and endorsed by the government and encouraged by society. I bet I could not survive a day without at least one of them.

But I do not do other drugs, right now. I used to, mostly all of them. And I genuinely enjoyed the experiences I had with them. Although things tended to get out of control after some seriously messed up summers. Now I'm clean of the illegal stuff. Have been clean of the hard stuff for about 4 years, and I stopped hitting the haschpipe about 3 years ago.
All this has taught me that drugs aren't as bad as people make them seem, but they're not as good as other people make them seem either. I'm all for legality and the freedom of body and such. But with that comes responsibility and stuff.
This might sound weird, but I do believe my drug induce journeys made me a better person.. of sorts.

I'm a bit of a control freak and therefore I wouldn't want to lose control of my brain in any way, so any kind of hallucinogenic would be a definite know. Also I don't really need drugs to feel happy, as I can feed off other people's emotions.

Another reason is that I don't want to risk the jail time.

Because I don't need it, and I wouldn't want to waste my money on something I have no desire for. All my friends do it, good for them, but I've seen what drugs do to people and one of my friends has died from it. That's enough to see how much fun they are.

I don't do it because I have better things to do. Plus my family would tear it apart if I did do it and ended up getting caught. Also I like being healthy and physically active while not poisoning my body.

I don't need anything to make me feel better about myself or help me deal with hard times. I am a very capable human being that doesn't need any chemical influence.

Because I'd like for my mind and body to continue working properly for as long as possible, and it's as simple as that. Anyway, if I did for whatever reason feel the sudden urge to both damage my body and muddy my senses, banging my head against a concrete wall would probably be cheaper.

I occasionally drink, but since that's non addictive I don't usually compare it to all the illegal and addictive drugs.

Soo I don't because I see no need to, I'd rather not get a criminal record or fuck up my body just yet. Drinking only has a detrimental effect if you do it a lot, whereas some drugs screw you over from the first time.

At university I might experiment a little, but for now no.

Interesting thread. Lemme clarify first that I use the colloquial meaning of the word drug and hence don't mean alcohol or any medically "justifiable" medications. I'm well aware both are classified as drugs, I just don't consider the word "drug" referring to them in informal speech.

FYI I do drink socially, although I don't get wasted anymore as I've both seen people wasted and been wasted myself and don't enjoy the sight of it from either the 3rd, 1st or retroactive PoV. If I'm bored of the company I'm in, I might drink myself until I'm tipsy and/or sleepy, but that's as far as I go. However, with a good enough cause and company, I wouldn't mind getting completely smashed once in a blue moon :p

Anyway, for a start, my traditional "drugs are bad, mkay?" upbringing kept me off drugs through most of my youth. I've also known my brother as a recreational user (just canabis) for years and from what I've known and seen it didn't have a positive impact on his personality. As I grew up, I've seen the effect of it on some of my peers as well and it simply didn't seem like something I wanted to get into.

Of course, you'll probably notice/comment (and be relatively right at it) that the above was largely due to ignorance and anti-drug campaigns and little due to my own "intellect" or choice. I've since got a bit more acquainted with the subject and listened to both sides of the story, not so much because I wanted to try it (it did cross my mind, but didn't stay there for long), but because I wanted to try and make the decision myself and not just be coached into it as I kinda like being open minded.

I've checked out some science behind the subject, psychology effects, addiction comparisons between different drugs as well as the opinion of some people I considered intelligent enough to speak well for both sides, both IRL and some public personas. George Carlin's interview on it was the best argument I've heard (you can look it up on youtube, think its the interview with Chris Rock) that was somewhat pro-use, but my own experience with and knowledge directly from cannabis users as well as some other reasons/arguments (in a large part, the "bad stuff" mentioned by someone above) from elsewhere just kept me away.

I also consider myself having a highly addictive personality so I'd rather not try and and miss out on a bit of fun than end up completely fucked up. I don't think badly of people who use it recreationally and keep it in check, but I'm not too fond of actual junkies and people who's personality heavily turns for the worse under the influence.

edit:

Iirc is the single substance most addicts are addicted to. While it's not as addictive in itself, the facts that it's common, legal and very socially accepted and even promoted, it's very easy to end up getting addicted to.

I used to do a lot of drugs, smoked weed on a daily basis and got drank on an almost daily basis (at least 3 times a week). I only drink or smoke occasionally these days because I just don't really enjoy the highs any more. And I can't fucking stand the hangovers from alcohol or how weed prevents my brain from functioning for most of the next day. In the months leading up to my decision to give up smoking I found that I was having terrible mood swings, especially in work, and I had become terribly paranoid.

So yeah, don't enjoy it any more myself but I don't condemn anybody that does.
