well, i don't do drugs because i'm a very guarded person. i don't like to tell everyone i meet everything about myself, and i've heard too many life stories from people who are on drugs to feel comfortable getting into them. also, i never want to be incapacitated and at the mercy of another person, so i don't drink either.

My answer is. I want to become a cop. So I don't know, but I don't think the police department would want someone who does drugs. Call me crazy.

Disclaimer: Haven't read the entire thread, just chiming in to become a statistic.

I do not do drugs because...

*They're too expensive for me
*My girlfriend do not appreciate them
*Alcohol does a decent job of it cheaper and legal
*They usually involve way too much work

Take your pick from the above. With that said, I'm positive to some illegal drugs, and I support legalizing marijuana, for starters. If they did that, I might start smoking a bit again. Would give my poor liver a rest, at least.

Edit: And waddaya know, I entirely skipped the sentence about alcohol considered a drug for this thread. I certainly consider alcohol a drug, but I assumed we were talking about prohibited drugs. Wrongly so, and my apologies. If so, ignore my entire post, since I do drugs on a regular basis. Wow, I'm useless today!

I just don't like addictive chemicals and don't need some compound dictating my desires. That's why I quit smoking cigarettes and why I quit using other drugs too. Also there are a lot of unpleasant side effects to all drugs if you use them frequently.

Well I drink quite a lot and I do use "softer" drugs, just to get that out the way just now.

However being a user I have heard my fair share of knock backs to drugs/alcohol and on a few occasions got into discussions about it. One of the most interesting conclusions we came to, was that peoples reactions to drugs are dependent on their exposure to it growing up. This could be availability, bad experiences, being a friend/family of users, etc. One of the strangest reasons I've ever heard though was "I don't do drugs because I think I would kill someone if I did" I kid you not this guy genuinely thought he would become a murderer. What can I say, who were we to tempt fate?

Edit: Wow! So many people are interested in this topic :)
I thought I'd be able to give my two cents on each reply but there are too many, though I'd like to say thank you because I like seeing how other people think.
I quite frankly don't have money to spend on drugs. Even if I did I have tried alcohol and weed and really didn't like the feeling as much as I thought I would. Considering that, there isn't as much of an enjoyment return as say buying a computer and games for said computer. As a side note to add to it: both are illegal for me to posses which just lessens the said enjoyment return if I am ever caught with said substances.

Why buy weed when you can buy MUCH more beer?
I use a similar motto to any Kids trying to tell me that

"(INSERT GAME) TOTALLEY PWNSSSSS AND IS BETERRR DAN SEXSHHHH!"

I tell them that for the price of a new game (£40) they could by 80 beers.

I'd choose the 80 beers were I old enough or my 'Secret' sources for buying alcohol were willing enough.

I like to think I handle my drugs responsibly and never have done any irreparable damage to my life or lives of others being a frequent drug user (mostly alcohol but others too). Thats my only belief with drugs.
I have absolutely no problem with people who are responsible with drugs but I dont have much tolerance for people whose mood and personality changes from needing them. Im talking to the smokers and grumpy coffee people more so than the junkies. :)

Also, I think drugs get bad rap something similar to "violent" games. Its the odd few people (and selective news coverage) who gives drugs and people using them bad rep. I find in my life and looking at lives of others that the legal drugs have more of a negative affect on our lives..

when it comes to pot, I smoke when I'm hanging out with people that just want to kick back and have fun, usually to just tell jokes, rag on eachother and watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I drink socially these days, mostly, because its where I'm more likely to meet people my age at bars and such. Met people through bars that I don't drink with most of the time, good friends with them. Its a socially acceptable drug, which means theres a lot of it when it comes to any kind of party, whether its a frat party to my cousins insane wedding, where part of her fiances family is a cabaret band

i've seen what it can do to people... i dont want the aggravation of lung cancer or needing a new liver, or having a heart attack, or having a bad trip, or well...pot doesnt hurt you but it makes you stupid so...thats one thing, or just plain dieing, they use up money that i could be using for other things like food or games or the internet, i dont want to use all my money on drugs if i get addicted then become homeless having to suck off a guy for another line... its just retarded if you ask me... dont say "well it help you escape from the shit of life" cause it doesn't! it just feels like it for a minute then you come back to a life thats even more fucked over then it was before!

I do drink and smoke (tobacco) but I'm staying clear of drugs as long as I'm in Ireland. I don't trust the dealers.
Maybe when I go to Amsterdam where "weed" has to be of a certain quality then I'll use it.
