while your right, and i don't care about those titles, Gears and ME aren't owned by MS. So regardless of what happens to the Xbone those won't go down with it.

edit: Wait, I like Halo, but from the perspective of the lore, the games, meh, FPS are for people whom are not me.

Maybe they'll FINALLY start giving the Windows platform some decent IP ports, then.

You know, Windows? That platform that's doing really well and has a bunch of new distribution methods to try out?

Hello?

Microsoft?

When you make an exclusive, your gambling on the chance that it'll sell well enough on one platform to make up for what you could get for selling it multiplatform. That said, gambling is not known for paying off but everyone knows when theyre gambling. Studios like 343 have to make that decision, Microsoft may own that IP but I dont think theres anything stopping such studios from developing and self publishing on other platforms

I think Microsoft has shot themselves in the foot with this new console and in the process shot their studios too. If they dont have the most amazing games ever at E3 I think everyones going to be hurting in the long run

At the end of the day everyone has to make a judgement call on whether playing these games is worth the price of an xbox and putting up with their bad business decisions. Another halo or gears of war is not worth it to me, but maybe other people feel differently

I can't see the Xbone "failing". I can see it doing poorly in the beginning, but M$ will do what they have to to remain competitive, and this will likely center around these exclusive IP's you're so worried about.

I mean, it's not like they're a bunch of idiots.

^ That is everything that Microsoft owns, IP wise. As to selling the IP's see above example with Freelancer. If Microsoft keeps up this ****** behavior, you can say goodbye to all of those. And I didn't say Microsoft was going to fail. Of course not. I said their console and, by extension, Microsoft Game Studios might if it keeps going the way it is.
Does not worry me. Of that entire list, the only things worth keeping are the Battletech and Mechwarrior IPs, and Microsoft hasn't done anything worthwhile with them since Mechwarrior 4, anyway.

Why is everyone so sure the casuals will snap this up? The casuals have cheap Nintendo, Apple and Android hardware for their gaming fix (Apple isnt cheap but it does other things) and the Xbox brings nothing to the table in TV features that isn't already done by 15 other devices (Except SPORTS!)

I don't think even the casual market will pay much attention to this. the Wii sold to them because it was cheap and, dare I say it, fun and the controls were easy to learn for someone unused to controllers. As well as being marketed as a games platform for them.

We saw what happened when Sony and MS tried to give casuals expensive but technically superior gear. The Move failed miserably and the Kinect is languishing unsold on retailer's shelves. Not only this but the WiiU shows that to some extent, the casual demographic is saturated for the time being.

...if they do fail, they'll liquidate. Remember THQ? It wasn't that long ago.

Also, I do believe that list is a little off on at least one franchise, all things considered [http://store.steampowered.com/app/234650/].

Unless Microsoft is run by little kids who cry "I'M GOING HOME AND I TAKE MY BALL WITH ME!", they won't just sink or abandon their IPs. If shit will really hit the fan they are more likely to sell their rights rather than just burn them. It's not a schoolyard for god's sake.
Considering how many Old IP's there are that Publishers are just willing to sit on for years and years without allowing someone to contribute a damn thing to them....

.....It kind of is an immature schoolyard

This is why Microsoft exclusive deals kinda' suck, because if you were more careful...you could go multi-system and not have to worry about that sort of thing. Oh, I understand how that's harder, economically, but let's just face it...it's not impossible.

Microsoft aren't to fall, they're not going to go bankrupt. The Xbone is bad, but it's not going to sell 1,000 consoles and die. It's simply going to fail in comparison to the Playstation 4. The bad press surrounding the Xbone is pretty intense, but they didn't murder a baby on stage.
No, just your inner child.

I'll assume that if Xbone turns out to be a massive financial failure they'll sell off the IP's in an attempt to cut losses.

And believe me, a heavy hitter like Halo or Gears of War will bring in a LOT of money.
I wouldn't expect them to sell IPs, but I do expect there's enough idiot fanboys out there who just buy what they're told to buy.

"Wow, Halo 5 with pre-order in-game shiny helmet decals and sausage maker gun? Count me in!"

Fall of the Xbone will be great with all those IP's just sitting there with limited install base to make money off M$ will have to go back to their roots and develop for PC i can see it now a glorious new age for the PC master race rising from the ashes of the dirty uncivilized often brutal console civil war and there will be an end to poverty and suffering and stuff

Cos it's a really big machine and it'd probably seriously injure someone from a high enough drop...! If not kill them! That thing's massive!

...sorry.

Halo is the only one I'd miss - everything else I could do without. Think of it like this, the studios that made those games won't go down with Microsoft, with maybe a few exceptions, so at least there'll be other games with similar gameplay that'll come out in the future. None of those games had universes really worth continuing beyond where they've already taken them anyway. Also I'm not including Mass Effect because it's not intrinsically tied to Microsoft, it's primarily a Bioware and EA franchise with PC and PS3 ports.

IPs don't just get lost into the ether when their owner goes down.

Just recently, THQ died a horrible death, and sold all of their properties off to whomever wanted them.

You have nothing to fear should the Xbox One plummet into the pits of console despair like the Virtual Boy and 3DO before it.
