Anime is... ugh. Shit, basically. The 'My Little Pony' obsession is weird as well. I can't my head around the fact that men watch it.
WHAT IS A MAN?

Nothing but a miserable pile of lies, apparently... Have at you!

What? What? What? WHAT? You just broke my brain!
Wow, so true...

Why I like anime, its because its funny, good action, great drama and mostly because I like the culture of Japan.

Because liking anime instantly makes you an otaku.

Also, comic book guy, so your argument is fucked anyways. Next.
No only said, if there is someething regarding anime that should make you feel uncomfortable it should be otaku.

Also I don't know what you mean with "comic book guy" but if you mean what I think you mean then let me tell you that Hirano Aya is a anime seiyuu.

First, before I have anyone trolling this post about how I "Just don't get anime", you can see by my avatar that I'm guilty as well. Code Geass ftw!

Anyway, about 80% of the avatar's I see are anime characters. Any idea why?
I guess that the people who play videogames and the people who watch anime just tend to overlap a lot. Especially the ``hardcore´´ gamer.

Personally, I don't like these "why don't you like what I like" threads because it always comes off on me that the topic starter is trying to belittle those who aren't like them. Hence the beginning of racism and prejudice.

You make it sound like people who like anime don't like American culture. That's not the case for me. Being from the Philippines, which was a country that was taken over by both Japan and the United States, cultures from both countries have rubbed off on our people. That said, I've taken Western and Eastern culture in equal doses.

I've read a lot of Marvel and DC comics with a little Dark Horse on the side and I've also completed a few hundred-chapter mangas. I watch Game of Thrones, Family Guy and the Simpsons, but I also watch Bleach and Gintama. There are a lot more shows and other media from both sides that I've been exposed too, and I've seen the good and the bad in both of them.

I like anime not because I don't like Western shows, I like anime because Western shows are boring. Most Americans still have the mindset that animated shows are only for children (not that there aren't animated shows for adults, mind you), while Japan has pushed the medium to appeal to all ages. There are just as many mature-themed anime as there are anime for children and young adults, and the sheer diversity of it all is what appeals to me. Anime just seems a lot more creative than Western entertainment shows, the majority of which are always grounded in reality, with no sense of escapism whatsoever. We are on the Escapist, after all, and anime is just a lot more interesting for me.

The stupidity of this definition can only be matched by the stupidity of the word "otaku" itself.

A) I know who Aya Hirano is.
B) I don't think what you think I meant was what I meant.

In the likely case that you still don't understand, allow me to apply your non-logic to a simpler subject:

A: "I don't know why, but the nighttime always makes me scared."
B: "Yeah, well I've had some pretty bad days before. Those are worse than night time."
A: "I was talking about days in general. As in, nights, regardless of quality, are pretty scary to me."
B: "Well, if you're afraid of it, it must be bad. I'm therefore gonna keep talking about bad days and equate them to your irrational fear in defense of night time."

I was going to accompany this with a helpful infographic, but then I realized I couldn't be arsed. You're on your own from here.

Anime is popular in young, libiral communities.
Funny, I am young (15) and liberal, but I "don't get" anime either.
OT: I have no clue. I don't understand how the anime art style in these people's minds by default make something superior to live action.

mostly because most of the people are 15-25 year-olds and face it, if you didn't watch anime at that age you were probably live under a rock?

Me? I'm the hipster of avatars. I make my own.

Anime and Gaming probably have a fairly large intersection when made into a venn diagram. They cross over a lot culturally.

Yay for threads where every post is a rewording of the first reply.

Sorry, but where did you get any of that? Didn't you even read the OP? (S)he clearly stated that they liked anime too... Nowhere were any of your accusations confirmed. What made you think the OP didn't like anime and was negative to those who did? In fact, you are the most belligerent person here, from what I can tell.

Well, this is a gaming heavy website and a lot of gamers are also introduced to at some point, so the topics are very closely related and thusly we have a lot of people who like both gaming and anime.

So you just mean white guys in general wich makes you essentially a racist.

Also you seem to get quite angry and offended about such an unimportant issue, perhaps you should start jogging or boxing to let of some steam.

Because there is nothing better to do in life then watch the same plot/story retold in many different forms of anime which try to call themselves "Original" but instead can be reverted to really early forms of anime all in which, suck. And when Anime actually develops a good ending, they have to ruin it by extending it even more.

TL;DR

All anime are the same.
They all suck.
GOD I totally agree with both of you!
Plus I hate books and films too for the same reasons. I mean, I read "Lolita", found out they made films of it, I've not touched a book or been to a cinema since. Because as far as I can tell, they're all the same, and they're all FILLED with paedophilia.

Most likely because gaming and anime usually go hand in hand, if you like one there is a good chance you'll like the other. Also speaking as a person from the US I can vouch that our cartoons suck and growing up the shows I always looked forward to were the ones that came from japan and as I got older I still liked anime so I continue to watch them.

A friend of mine likes it because it is more "intellectual" than western cartoons (her words not mine) as myself and a group of friends settled down to watch Spongebob squarepants, Ren and Stimpy and Lucy the daughter of the devil. One person said to her "What so intellectual about a house that moves?" (I think she had been watching Howl's magc castle before we walked in). I also like anime, not to the extent that some people do, but I do have soft spots for certain anime, for example, I like watching FLCL and Death note. I know they could be considered "mainstream" but I just don't have the energy or the will to try and sort out what the hell was going on with the ending to Neon genesis evangelion and things like that as, in my experience, some anime's can be damned near incomprehensible towards the end. When I am sitting down to watch cartoons, I am not looking to search the depths of my soul all the time, most of the time when I am sitting down to watch cartoons I want some brainless fun for half an hour.
Give 'Rebuild of Evangelion' a shot; much better animation, a higher budget, a significant distillation of plot and a lot less metaphysical weirdness. Far easier to enjoy.
