Why is this site so split about Fallout 3?

I realy like F3. The story is compelling, the characters are likable (at least the ones you are supposed to like) and the combat had a nice flow to it. Sure it had its problems, like how it kind of lost the subtlety when you started using power armour and a shoulder mounted BFG-9000, but it is still one of the overall best rpgs i've played.

It was popular so our generation "x" ers instantly hate it.

Its a remake so those who think the last great game was made in 1999 hate it.

Fallout fans hate it because they have removed everything they loved about Fallout.

Most people I know who have played it still do compulsively and have finished every single DLC.

I guess I am a Bathesda fan boy! I even bought WET!

But to me they can do no wrong and invariably they release the new Fallout two days after my Birthday so it's like a personal present to me!

1. This is a forum - people have their opinions and they like to debate them.

2. I thought the vast majority on here loved FO3?

Not for me personally (which is strange because I loved Oblivion), but I can still see why people like it.

Is it so bad that I like the old just as well as the new? I find the old to excellent games, and the new to be excellent aswell. Simply because they don't play exactly the same but are in the same series doesn't mean one has to suck.

what? Its a sequel. Triquel if you prefer, but its part of a series, never in the fallout games before 3 did it take place in D.C. and thats the root of some people hate aswell.

People don't like Fallout 3 because it's too easy both on enemy difficulty and questing. The guns are unbalanced and don't give a good enough feel for melee or big guns, and focus almost 100% on laser guns and small guns. It's "destroying RPGs" because of how easy it is.

People like Fallout 3 because it's huge, immersive, and a great example of a sandbox for sandbox's sake. You can run around the big world and just have fun killing things or helping people. It's "a great RPG" because of all that.

People are so split on it because it was a popular game, and can keep people coming back to it even after you're finished playing. The people who love it like to praise it, and whenever the people who hate it see someone praising it, they feel like they need their two cents in for why it's bad.

Opinions. It's popular even 3 years after its release. I'll bet some people still argue over GTA3 or Ocarina of Time or Sonic 2 or other games.

I love them all... wait I lie, I didn't ever care for Tactics. But the others, love em. If they were Pokewhatsits, I would be collecting them and petting them and calling them George.

But, they all have flaws. Ain't one of them a bastion of gaming. I could find just as many things to ***** about the first two as the third one.

As for why people ***** about 3, well I suspect that's because some people who say they really just don't like 1 & 2 have never played them. This irks the people who love 1 & 2 and use words like "canon" when they talk about Fallout.

But the unfortunate fact is, Fallout 3 is more accessible for modern gamers who aren't interested in downloading 1 & 2 to their PCs and trying to get those games to display correctly on their new fangled graphics cards.

Personally, I think if they could figure out a way to put these things on PSN or XBL, more people would play through them and discover they liked them, too. But I'll never be one of those people who are like, "OMG! It isn't exactly like the first two! Burn it!"

I love them all, and I'm sticking to that.

Every day it seams, there is either a new topic about "how great Fallout 3 is" or "how Fallout 3 is destroying RPGs." Why is that? There is nothing wrong with disagreeing on somethings quality, but for the most part this site is set on its game. There are exceptions, like Halo, but never have I seen such a huge split then this subject? Is it because this site just has a lot of people that remember the old games and a lot of newer younger gamers that never got to play them? Or is there something else I am just not seeing?
it IS interesting since Fallout 3 is obviously a shit RPG and horrible Fallout game (admittedly, it is a great "wasteland exploration larp simulator" though...i mean, if that's your thing).

i dislike it for one reason and one reason alone: shit programming, requiring specific graphics cards, and draining too much power for its graphics level.

Look, Fallout(s) 1 and 2 (BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL NEVER HAPPENED SHUT UP) are almost completely different games. A lot of people preferred the old turn based combat that the first games had, and a lot of people who considered themselves hardcore raged about V.A.T.S. (Something that you never have to use if you don't want to?). Also, a lot of people, including me, found the game only challenging for the first few levels, when all you had was your shit pistol and BB gun, but once you get to level four or five, the difficulty, as Yahtzee said, vanishes. At that level you have so much health (or stimpaks) and ammunition, that you only need to visit your local shopkeep once a week if you use your ammunition carefully. Hell, this guy [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Snotnarok] is even playing through the game without visiting any towns, along with using difficulty mods to increase the toughness of the game. Now, don't get me wrong, I personally adore the game and it's atmosphere, but many fans of the original series dislike the storytelling of Fallout 3, and adored the storytelling in the first two (NOT THREE) games, as well as the campy humour that wasn't very prominent in Fallout 3, but that is just my opinion. Also, the people above me said, it's a great game with some problems, for example, everything I just said about it up there, and the fact that one time (Now this is the PC version, children) I was playing the game for two hours, and it crashed six times! That is three crashes per hour. The game is inexcusably buggy, and apparently Bethesda thinks that patching their games frequently to fix bugs is an ass-backward idea.

Oh, but it's still good, pick it up if you don't have it.
