I still haven't properly listened to October Rust, TBH. Dead Again and Bloody Kisses have been occupying most of my time.
Buy it! Right now! lol. Really though... it's a magical album. Dead Again is cool too (September Sun oh my god gorgeous), Life Is Killing Me is all kinds of awesome for the most part.

I'm a fan of a lot of metal (expecially Anthrax, if you can tell by the avatar), but there are certain genres I won't touch, like death or black metal. What I really love about Anthrax is they always do it with a smile, but they've still written .
Nice to see 'Only' in there. I love the John Bush-era Anthrax stuff, especially Sound Of White Noise. I know most fans prefer Joey but John's voice always felt more manly and metal to me!

Fave Anthrax song ever? Room For One More!

Oh, and I Am The Law too. Metal song about Judge Dredd - how awesome can one thing be?
I started on Belly Of The Beast and then just followed the links down the side, I'm too lazy too keep typing things in, that's why I've missed some awesome stuff (I Am The Law being my second favourite Anthrax song, adter Caught In A Mosh). And I agree on John over Joey, but Joey is still a great vocalist (much looking forward to Sonishphere 2011 and the Big Four!).

If you like melo-death, you might like Engel. They are sort of a mix between melo-death and industrial.

My favorite of those three is Six Feet Deep. I'm in love with those vocals.

And since you seem to have a fondness for metalcore, I recommend this fine nugget, Parkway Drive:

Is it just me, or are the inflections in the vocals the same as this song?
Definitely.
Oh, & yes, the song was good too.
The clip reminds me of The Mighty Boosh.
Early Maiden might float your boat too. It's not like Psychobilly musically but it does have the same raw punky stompy feel:

I like the instrumental side of metal, it's when they start to growl and scream that irks me. Don't mind angry lyrics or anything like that, but the screaming... Blah

Do you 'get' extreme metal?
No, not really. Probably because I'm unable to understand anything they're trying to say with all the loudness.

Are you a fan? Are you indifferent? or does it make want to scream 'ARGH TURN IT OFF!'?
I'm indifferent, but any loud music (of any genre) that is on too loud will make me scream "ARGH, TURN IT OFF!". My hearing is busted up enough as it is from shellshocks, explosions and similar thanks to my younger dumb self thinking loud volume + war games = simulator... I can't stand loud noises anymore =/

If you are a fan, tell us why and how it makes you feel to throw on some good old blast beats and death growls I'm not a fan really. The 'death growls' as you called 'em just sound horrendous to me.

In my opinion, everyone is free to enjoy what music they want to, as long as they do NOT put it on their cellphone and have the speakers on max. Use a goddamn headset or something with proper sound isolation.

First of all epic link, i also love Carcass

Now OT: I love metal, i have loved it since i was a 10 year old jumping on my bed to Rammstein and listening to Metallica in school when the other ones were stuck in Alicia keys and Britney. It has always had a special place in my heart and i have gone throught literally all metal genres that are, i especially love brutal death metal and folk metal. But i'm not just a metal fan, put me up for some grieg og mussorgsky and i'm good.

All in all, i can say i'm a fan. And the feeling of metal shall never escape my heart \m/

Mmm, Carcass.
I love Metal, but not to the point where I'll talk to people about it. It's something that I keep to myself, and people tell me how odd it is that I'm "so nice", but listen to this kind of music.
I like the riffs and just general loudness, but I do have standards and, to be honest, I only like about 15 death metal bands. That reason being the vocalist; I'm picky about them because that's the part that I like the most. I'm not exactly sure why I like death metal, but it's something that just grew on me.

I have October Rust, Dead Again and Bloody Kisses, just not listened to October yet. ;) Though I think I will today! September Sun is by far my favorite song of theirs (or is it Christian Woman. Hmm. INSIDE OF HERRRRRRRRRRRRRR)

Well after today it's either going to be Love You To Death, Wolf Moon or Burnt Flowers Fallen or Green Man or Be My Druidess!

Do you 'get' extreme metal?
Yes

Are you a fan? Are you indifferent? or does it make want to scream 'ARGH TURN IT OFF!'?
Massive fan. I used to hate the growling/screaming stuff, but I learned to love it through the likes of Sepultura and Opeth. To those who hate it, it's an acquired taste, and it's worth acquiring because the music is just awesome. Also it helps to massively expand your music appreciation

If you are a fan, tell us why and how it makes you feel to throw on some good old blast beats and death growls
Well blast beats aren't my thing really, IMO heaviness > speed. So I like intense, heavy music. I get a natural and emotional connection with metal when I listen to it. I'm not entirely sure why I love it, I just do. I love the rich, raw, heavy sound, I love the way it balances positive and negative energies. And pretty much everything in OT

I've enjoyed metal since high school to this very day. Fight Fire with Fire from Metallica was the one music that made me go bonkers over metal. During the nineties Sepultura was my nº1 band, anyone who doesn't know their 1989 'Beneath the Remains' album is missing big time. Even today is one of the best trash metal opus. EVER. Period.
Nowadays Opeth is my religion as is anything that Steven Wilson does. Dream Theatre. Riverside.
Metal is an aquired taste as is classical music (and I love both genres), to dismiss it as 'childish', 'violent' or 'angry' is just being narrow-minded. Musically Metal as a whole provides more QUALITY than all of the so called 'popular' genres put together, and sits side by side with the sensations that Mahler, Stravinsky or Beethoven provide me.

I would say that Hip Hop, or even Classical/Operatic music is the most misunderstood music. Hip Hop transformed from something special, to a corporate farce, and very few people these days knows shit about classical/opera. If they do, they learned it in music classes, or are listening to it to be snobs, while there are a minute amount who heard it, liked it and explored it. Heavy metal, death metal and all that has a huge fan base, and everywhere outside of America has gotten over it being the "music of the devil" or responsible for anything evil. So I'd say that statement is flawed. You're perfectly entitled to like whatever music you want obviously.

Do you 'get' extreme metal?

I get all music. Do I own "extreme metal"? Well I own Slayer, Carcass, and Bathory, but it gets more extreme than that. By your definition, yes I do, but I listen to a far greater range of music than that, and I can't say it's my favourite genre. I say that, while In Flames is playing on my computer :s

Are you a fan? Are you indifferent? or does it make want to scream 'ARGH TURN IT OFF!'?

I like it, I think it has an unrivaled energy, and works very well live. I find a lot of the fans to be cunts though. Not all, but a lot of them seem small minded, and have got into the genre as some sort of "oneupmanship" to prove they are more hardcore than their friends or the people at their school. Most will be loving indie music and pop by their mid 20's. I've seen it happen.

If you are a fan, tell us why and how it makes you feel to throw on some good old blast beats and death growls

Like I said, it's got energy. Some, like In Flames, are sing along song-able, while some are the perfect way to get energised before a night out, or to exercise to. Each genre of music has it's place

Heh, I'd say you probably know of my attitude towards metal.

In fact, the very first quote I had on this site was of me and Miracle talking about how great Devin Townsend was. :D

Also, these threads never have enough machine head in 'em...

And a much underrated song:

DAT BASS.

Slayer is death metal?
I don't want to get into a pedantic debate about genres and sub-genres but while their music has more in common with Thrash metal, their subject matter often had them seen by many as a death metal band.
I'm willing to go with that. I like hippie "blackened post metal" anyway. (Which I concede is the worst genre name ever.)

:) I'm pretty much in the process of rediscovering my love for Metal. It was my music of choice as a teenager (yup, I'm kinda old now) - starting from HardRock over to Iron Maiden, Halloween and such, Kreator, a bit of Slayer, ending with RATM, Faith No More, Pantera and everything Grunge of course. End then, pinpointable at about the time I was fed up with Soundgarden's Superunknown... I began discovering the rest of the world of music. So, really, for about 15 years, I wasn't particulary interested in Metal. A little Pantera here, a little Korn's Life Is Peachy there, throw in Kyuss maybe, but that was pretty much it.
Thanks to threads like this (seriously) and the recent input of a friend my last days have been filled to the brim with Meshuggah(!), Isis, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon... Good Times!!!

(in other words)

Do you 'get' extreme metal?
I'd say Yes. Although extreme vocals are mostly a big turnoff.

Are you a fan? Are you indifferent? or does it make want to scream 'ARGH TURN IT OFF!'?
There are musical and other aspects within the gazillion of Metal's subgenres which I cannot stand (at least not without being ironic). So, looking at the whole thing, I must be indifferent I guess.

It's that surge of adrenaline, that overwhelming sensation that makes you run around and yell 'FUCK YEAH!!!!!'
You remember where you were when you first heard 'that' Metal song. You know, 'that' song you keep coming back to just to get that feeling again.
Metal's just fucking awesome and it always will be.
