I am happy that the police exists, of course you always find some assholes, but those kinda cops tend to have very short careers.

If not for the cops, idiots like the OP would run rampant, I prefer the current reality.

You're not necessarily wrong, but I've got a couple of things which may interest you to hear about that particular case, the man who was pushed over and subsequently died.

You're very much correct that the officer in question was wrong to do what he did, and that the coroner was biased (and he probably ruined a lot of lives being biased, but that's a whole other thing) but I think the smear campaign idea you brought up needs more attention, because it runs both ways.

I watched the video again, and there's no reason that the officer should have shoved the guy, but he did. He might have done it to make himself feel powerful or something along this lines, but what he didn't do was hit him whilst he was down, he didn't hit him with a weapon, he just shoved him out of the way, and the guy was pushed to the floor. He wasn't trying to kill that man. He made a hideously bad judgement call but obviously didn't intend to harm the man in such a way that he'd die.

That's easily manslaughter, but it wasn't intended to be. I don't agree with the way the police and media handled what happened, and I've heard just as much about how terrible the officer in question is as I have about the victims drinking habits. They're both getting the same treatment now.

This is going through the proper channels and courts. It's getting investigated and slow as justice might be, it's getting done. You can't say it's not fair, because it looks like the officer is going to be punished, and because it's all been so public, it's not going to be light.

As for positive experiences with the police, I've not had many experiences at all with them, but when I have had to talk to the police, they've been very courteous and respectful towards me. I have had various relatives in the police force as well, one being a detective in the Met. You learn very quickly that there are two sides to every story, and a story about the police doing something wrong sells well.

As for positive experiences with the police, I've very glad that they've caught the murderers who killed the women in my area. That's very positive.

It's nothing personal, but most police are woefully ignorant that the law and justice itself haven't been on speaking terms for a long time now.
There's two sides to every story, and stories about the police getting things wrong sell well. The police aren't angels and I'm not saying they don't get it wrong, sometimes they get it very wrong, but I'm willing to bet the internet that whatever you think happened isn't exactly what went down.

Because they are used to enforce power on the civil population, because we officially have the right to protest, but every legal permitted demonstration was ended early, sometimes violently and peaceful demonstrators are held against their will for hours in a way that was outlawed years ago and is now reused just under a new name.
There are a lot of nice people on patrole, but the young ones used in the groups of hundred that are put into action at big events are mostly a stupid violent lot, often neo-conservative if not even neo-nazi.
Luckily it never came to extreme situations when i was in there. But id rather bash in the skull of one of those then watching them beating down kids, old people or wounded.

yup thats a skull on that club. what a funny lot of jokers they are.

Most policemen believe they have a moral high-ground despite their average or below knowledge of ethics. Currently, the average knowledge of ethics is insufficient for a human being, even more so for an entity of intervention like the police.

The police is good because it keeps every other greedy douche from kicking in your door and stealing your stuff, among many many other things.

I'm fine with the police. Riot police, on the other hand, rarely seem to show themselves as anything other than untrained thugs with the discipline of a four year old. I'm sure it's a minority, but it more than pulls its weight. Even the pressure of the job is no excuse. If they can't deal with it, they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Jezus, a lot of animosity towards the police here. I have no idea why, but perhaps the police are better here in holland.

I have met MANY great officers in my time, some people have hated on these officers calling them arrogant and various other words but speaking with arrogance and authority are very different things, the big issue is many officers themselves can't tell the difference and believe the fact they're police means they are in ALL meanings of the word better then those they're meant to protect and it harms the real officers just doing their jobs

I don't hate the police (I'm from England btw) but I do hate that they are underfunded (in my area anywho) and have their hands tied by stupid bulls**t laws. The thing that bothers me is that if someone is genuinely attacking a police officer they can't fight back without being liable for a GBH charge. I can't really comment on American police or any other police force but for the most part the English police are decent. There are a few on power trips but like everywhere else in society some people are a**holes. I can see why some people dislike them but I'd rather dislike a police force that were efficient and effective than like one that is constantly held back by red tape.

I have nothing but respect for the police. Yes some can be assholes but keeping the peace is a stressful job. The best we can do is be respectful of them and not go out of our way to make they're job more problematic.

I don't mind the police. They're just sort of... there, like roads, or buildings. They're part of the country itself, so I don't really notice them.

I don't break the law, and I'm not often a victim of people who do, so I don't really have to interact with them either.

But I do love to yell 'Fuck the po-leese!' completely out of context. Not cause I mean it, it's just very fun to say.

I have no problem with the police, ever time I have had experiences with them they were really nice. The majority of them are just doing a job, one which is sometimes made much harder by the people that they are tryong to help or people that are putting other is danger.

You shouldn't have *faith* in any human beings. Our governments aren't designed around trust. Those that were, became overrun with despots. We should always respect and then challenge authority.

It are just people ya know, they don't grow officers on trees. Which leads to them sharing the same flaws as you and me.

That, and the stanford prison experiment said hi.
