Because it's only average and many of the fans are tards who revere it as though it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I used to be a fan of the Halo series, especially the first game, but I've realized that there's not really anything that great about it.

That being said, the haters are extremely annoying as well. I can very much appreciate people who level reasonable criticisms of the game. However, it's impossibly bothersome people who rant about all of its flaws not so the developers can try to better their games in the future, but rather so the fans will feel insulted.

Actually, I personally find the rabid haters to be worse than the fantards.
Halo is not great!
Wait, what? You called him out on something he DIDN'T EVEN SAY. Incredible!

Oh, wait, I just saw this:

This is the majority that Halo appeals to. Thats why its popular.
And THIS MONSTROSITY:

See, a lot of other people agree too. It deserves the hate because its one of the most undeserved praised games ever! Plus, the game is too popular.
That.... that doesn't even make sense. Is the Mona Lisa somehow less of a masterpiece because people like it? The game is somehow bad due to it being popular?

Ok, let me tell you a little secret, mkay? Odds are, if a lot of people like a particular thing, they like it because it's good. Mediocrity hardly enspires enthusiam. If the game went and blew chunks, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_Rain] then the majority of the population would hate it. You're showing a complete disregard for other's opinions. You said Halo 1 wasn't good: I can name about 30 people that would disagree with you in under a minute.

Point being: if you can't stand the game, then there's no need for you to whine about it. You're entitled to your opinion, but not entitled to go about proclaiming yours as Gospel Truth.

Besides, you avatar leads me to believe you to be prejudiced against the subject matter.
Why do I bother?

To say that all hatred stems from the same thing is not only foolish, but arrogant on a level I cannot yet begin to comprehend. So lets run through the sparkling variety of reasons.

I did not have an Xbox last generation, but I did have a PC, and I played Halo: Combat Evolved. I thought it was an overall poor game. (Maybe thats just my overall unimpressed disposition with the FPS.) This was of course, before G4 moved off of basic cable, I was perplexed as to why Halo got a perfect score. I was even more irked later on when I heard it was getting a sequel.

Lets move on, Yahtzee reviews Halo 3, Yahtzee is the beloved figurehead of pessimism and misanthropy. People believe they can be as cool as Yahtzee and begin imitating him in his opinions of this game.

The next group are the simple group who hate everything pop culture. Their just as much zombies as the pop culture crowd are. If you need to hear how popular something is before you can form your opinion you have failed at life, step aside.

Stop expressing your opinion as a fact. This borders on spam at the very least.

3) It actually deserves criticism. The Halo series in general is rather over rated, and although certain facets of the series are certainly deserving of praise (Forge, support for Machinima, Multiplayer), more are deserving of an absolute tearing apart.
It deserves criticism becuase it doesn't deserve tens that "professional" reviewers give it. Now all the Halo fanboys are going to say to me; "But Halo one deserves score of 10s" NO! Even that game was mediocre at best.

TimeSplitters series >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Halo series

Because its a hopelessly average game thats popular and critically acclaimed for reason uknown. Its too overrated and the fact that TimeSplitters isn't as or more popular than Halo is retarded.
A.) If you think that it received too much critical acclaim, shouldn't your animosity be directed at the critics, not the game?

B.) This thread is not called "What games are you obsessed with that Halo sold better than?" Please, shut the hell up about TimeSplitters.

Oh, what's that? You just forgot what an opinion is.

Local multiplayer is better TO YOU. Oh and since when does the amount of enemies make the game in any way better?

From what I've heard, the whole game of Timesplitters was made to be funny. You can't judge a game for not being like your favorite game. Then you're just being a retard fanboy, like joobnook for an instance.
1) I think most people who have actually played both games would say Timesplitters had better Local multiplayer. All my friends who have played both agree with me. A lot of Halo fanboys just need to get out and try other games before praising it as the second coming of Jesus in game form.
2) Different types of enemy means more variety of gameplay. Variety is good. That's why racism is wrong.
3) I can judge a game for not being like my favourite game, although I would call it "comparing and giving constructive criticism such as where they can stick their copy-pasted levels". Of course I can say it's bad because it didn't do something right that another game I enjoyed more DID do right. What a ridiculous thing to say.
4) Joobnook is right. It gets more praise than is deserved and that is the main reason people hate it. Not because it is bad but because it is overrated, overhyped and overmarketed.

Here are some examples of why people do it:
1. The fanboys of another console hating it because it's the big game on 360
2. The people who take Yahtzee's every word as truth
3. The pretentious fuckheads who hate it because it is popular and they want to convince themselves they are special
4. The hypocritical and annoying Valve fanboys
5. The ones who hate for the sake of hating.

I said it before in another thread and I decided to just put it here as otherwise I'd be repeating myself. I could do another passionate argument about why these Halo haters are pretentious bullshit cocks... but I've been saying that so much, I feel weary. I'm a tired warrior returning from the forum battle and I just want to rest. But one final swing with my sword is this point made by all people on youtube:

'Oh man Halo fanboys are so annoying, when I say Halo sucks balls in one of their private forums they all get all angry. If I say I hate Halo because it fuckin' sucks and is overrated because it's overrated and it's overrated because it sucks and that it's fanbase are all retarded... they all spam me with hate.'

OF COURSE THEY DO MORON, because you INSULTED THEM. What did you expect was going to happen when you made a video on youtube about how Halo sucks and then link it to Halo related media?!
If you INSULT people, they get MAD. Can you comprehend this?
Try this, say simply:
"Halo's just not my thing, I respect that you like it but I prefer this kind of game."
Then see if this polite respective response is met with a polite refined:
"Okay then peace out."

Because see there is no such thing as rabid fanboys, there are people who get angry when someone harshly insults them and their favourite game unprovoked.
+1. I never really saw the hate - just becuase it was like halo 1 and two doesnt make it bad. I enjoyed those games and enjoyed halo 3 as well. sure there are some annoying people on the multiplayer, but you can just mute them. And the game customization is varied, and the weapons are quite balanced, even if not original. sure its not perfect but its fun. most of the bashing is done by who you described. (Also, i love valve alot...but I aint a fanboi :p)

So, Halo has been hated enough, can you all, as a culture, move on to hating Final Fantasy? I mean Final Fantasy has had well over a dozen mediocre games that use the same cookie cutter story with the same cookie cutter characters that use the same basic weapon that use the same exact fucking spells that use the same fucking combat system they've been using since 1987.

We've all beaten Halo to death to the point where I have come to terms with the fact that the arguements over Halo are more obnoxious then that mediocre shooter ever was.

Because I'm so cool and alternative and independent that the only possible reason for disliking something popular is because it is popular, obviously. I like to stand out so people will know I'm different!

Atheism is the IN thing, and my opinions of that and Halo are to be labelled as such. I dislike religion and capitalism because I'm a college hippy, and not somebody who has genuine feelings and analytical perspectives on these issues. Of course not! Could you imagine?

I forgott he " " around Cool. It's annoying as most religious people are nice, friendly, good people and it's just a minority who give them a bad name for doing stupid name in the name of their religion. Like these "Atheists" who bash religion for no good reason other than they can.

People give out about it a lot cause it's a popular and on the the xbox 360. So some people might just not like it because it's on a rival console.

They might also give out about it just to be different.

Also there are just those that want a flame war and there are also WAY over zealous fanboys but you can't just stick that label on Halo as every major title does.

Also it is genuinely over rated to an extent but you also can't say that's just Halo series as nearly ever major title/series has had one thats very hyped up but some titles end up in the shadow of the major game in the series that put it on the map.

The single player has become a tad stale and gotten shorter but you can't expect every game in the series to turn into items into either.
Multiplayer in my opinion is alright but not great others might disagree I'm just not a big fan of that particular games community(this is drawn on some bad experience but on all people who play halo are loud annoying -14 year olds who shout fag and such).

The recent one is more a game you buy get some friends turn on some "fun" skulls like catch, grunt party, cow bell, IWBYD and tough luck then have fun with stuff exploding everywhere.

Halo series was cool. Story in 3 was lacking. (I played halo for the story) Multiplayer is pretty good but I can't play it forever I get kinda of bored and the campers sucks. All in All. I like the series. I'd give it an 8/10 but it I'd be an high 8.

I also like Valve games...

I think the game is OK, but I prefer more cerebral games. Mostly, I just don't like that the fan base completely disregards any other FPS's on the market as being even fun.
Its just overrated. Go watch the Zero Punctuation review for my stance.
Yes thats fine and your free to your opinion but Zero Punctuation does create unnecessary problems for games with people taking the videos too seriously.

Just to make sure everyones clear on the difference between a reviewer and a critic. A reviewer reviews the game or movie or etc by taking in everything good and bad mentions then in detail equally and trys to give a score or a rating like 1-10 or shocking awful to better than sex.

While a critic critises something by picking on the bad aspects of the game or movie or etc and mostly and almost solely focuses on those aspects and only those aspects alone nearly and is certained around a negative theme.

Zero Punctation is very much more the latter although does contain elements of both it is something that is more for comedic value and to highlight and to an extent make mountains of mole hills at certain bad points in certain games e.g. badly placed ill thought out quick time events.
