Why was there no vehicles in fallout 3 ?

I think even the civilised deathclaws in Vault 13 will tell you to get stuffed.

And, since the map has so few areas that dont require the player to jump over rocks, cars just wouldnt work. ants, though...

this gives me a mod idea: The AntAgonizer Armor lets you ride ants!!

i guess the mechanist can like... let you summon a sentry bot. or something.

The wasteland didn't have a good enough terrain or roads to actually use vehicles on.

The cars in FO3 were all Fusion powered... that's why they still explode after so many decades of abandonment.

Besides, I'm sure Flamer fuel would power an engine.
If it burns, it can power.

IIRC, I think the fuel used in F2 was power cells also used by either the laser or plasma rifle.

A double check tells me that the Chrysalis Motors Highwayman worked on either Small Energy Cells for 5% charge, or Micro Fusion Cells for 50% charge.

I'm having a hard time keeping up my supply of them in my 3rd run through FO3 at the moment. I'm going laser-crazy, you see

Why would you want to have a vehicle or mount anyway? A lot of the fun was setting a clear goal and going to it, encountering various random things across the way. Or simply wandering around a previously untouched section of map in depth. You can't do in-depth research in a vehicle or on a mount, it would be much too easy to just bypass any challenge presented.

Yeah, it would have wrecked the flow of the game. It just would have been Grand Theft Auto: Megaton, or Tenpenny Row.

Brahmin are super slow, the Yao Gui would definitely object to being ridden, the Giant Ants now don't have a queen, so are frenzied, and all of the other creatures have even better excuses for not being ridden.

Clover probably wouldn't object to being ridden around.

The world would look a lot less scary if you could just floor it and run down and supermutants. Also, It would have required significant effort from the development team and they didn't want to spend the time to do it.

It doesn't work in the setting.
