Beatrix is the best female character in my opinion although there a few that could go for the spot. For why if you have played FFIX you don't need to be told for those that haven't in short she is strong, positive character that makes her male counterpart Steiner look like an inept tool and a twat at times. Although there is the underlying sexual tension between them.

As a side note. With the amount of people on these forums that seem to go on about FFIX quite a bit on threads about FF games I'm actually genuinely surprised she has no been mentioned.

Ada Wong from RE2 & RE4. She was a sexy spy stereotype, but in a fun way. Plus she always manages to save her man while still getting the job done.

Can't believe I'm the first person to say her. Where's the Ada love?

Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic. It's hard not to like her character (at least it is to me), she's just an awesome Jedi with a great voice-actor.
Visas Marr (KotOR 2), Leliana (Dragon Age), and Tali (Mass Effect), are close behind. I just named characters from four Bioware games...

Samus Aran, Lilith...

Well any hot, strong, tough, unique women that aren't presented as a sex object. That's what gets me going.

*fistbump* I love Ada as well. Well, she's not my all time fave female character, but she's definitely high in the list. I love how she can kick ass and be stylish at the same time.

Most of my favorites have already been posted, so I'm just gonna go ahead and add Lady from DMC3 and, of course, Eileen from SH4. Why? They're not out of the ordinary "I'm cool!" characters, and usually struggle to keep up with the rest.

Luka from Lost Planet. Just everything about her charicter made her likeable. Shes not an ass kicking she warrior but also isnt a whineing useless charicter.
Also Basil from the same game. Mostly becuase she is the ass kicking she warrior but at the same time she is likeable. Sadly I could find no pictures.

Also someone PLEASE explain to me why Alyx is such a liked character?
Certainly. Alyx is the product of a rather brilliant game design innovation by Valve that attempted to create more plausible characters exclusively for the videogame medium. They didn't just give her some interesting dialogue and personality like in a movie (although she has plenty of those too), they made her actually fill an important role in the player's experience. She's saved your ass as often as you've saved hers, she's always backing you up (and competently) in a firefight, her presence helps set whatever mood the designers want to have in a scene, and she's always the first person you look to for advice and exposition.

I think most gamers who have played the half-life series tend to form a pretty strong connection with a character that dynamic. Alyx isn't just someone you would want to go adventuring with, she's someone who you've already had adventures with.

So yeah...did I make that clear, or am I just rambling?

It's hard to say, because they're all so snappily dressed. [/sarcasm]
But to make an honest to goodness choice, I'd have to say Isabella and Eliza, the super diabolical twins from Custom Robo GCN. The fact that there are two of them to begin with was an interesting twist but there was no real closure for the two despite being the main villains of the game. D=
