"They say the captain
goes down with the ship
So, when the world ends,
will God go down with it?"

The above quote is taken from Fall Out Boy's "What a Catch, Donnie". Simply put, what's your opinion? I eve thought up a system for different religions. If your religion has multiple gods change "God" to "gods" and apply it to all gods it is applicable to. If your religion doesn't follow "God" himself change it to your god. If you don't have god then you may as well skip this. In my personal agnostic based opinion God only exist if there are people to believe in him. Therefore, if no one survives the end of the world then yes, God will go down with his ship, the ship being Earth.

Keep this civil please guys.I'm going off topic but a lot of people claim about things like this causing flame wars but I have yet to see any flame wars on this site.

In the event that a deity or deities exist, then I'd assume that they exist outside of our pesky and unimportant time/dimension. That's how they could theoretically exist at the very very beginning of time and why we can't possibly imagine what that's like. (agnostic, leaning atheist)

Well if you study philosophy, you learn that God is already dead and its the second time it happened. First time was during Plato's time.

Nah, he won't. If he exists and made us, then clearly he doesn't need worship to survive.

well it really depends on what you believe. For example if God really doesn't exist and is only the idea of human kind, then yes in a way he would because the idea of 'god' would be forever erased as we know it. However if God is real then no, really because if a supernatural being did create the universe then I doubt that he cares about humans of all things.

I would say that (from a Christian standpoint) God does not go down with His ship, so to speak, because He created it. He's not defined by the ship, he existed before it. A captain is only a captain if he has a ship, but God was God before he had the world.

You could even argue that (again from a Christian point of view), the world we see isn't God's ship at all, the spiritual world is, and that will never end.

Good news!
They have, in fact, an entire book on this subject.
its called the Bible.
look up the book of Revelations.

This is going to be a dumb conversation.

(Speaking from a Catholic standpoint here, fellas.)

God created the universe and existed before it (as he must to have created it in the first place), therefore his existence is not tied to it. He will not "go down with the ship". Also, we don't believe the earth will end, technically, but turn into one massive Garden of Eden.

This thread will not end well.

It is impossible to derive a serious philosophical discussion from lyrics to a song sung by these fellows:
And who exactly would derive a serious philosophical discussion from? I'm tired of people who have heard three of their songs and look at Pete Wentz and claiming that Fall Out Boy is the worst thing to hit the face of the planet. I'm not saying they're the best thing ever but come on guys get over it.

I'm with you Fluffybacon. Sorry TeragRunner but any "philosophical" discussion you may get out of this topic is made moot by the fact that you got the inspiration from a Fallout Boy song. Fail.

If one chooses to look at it as such, God could be seen as a human belief and will ultimately perish with them.
