Not to mention that there's little evidence supporting the claim that men were exclusively hunters and women exclusively home makers. And unless you have a time-machine there's no such evidence to be had.
Little evidence? You're not going to rewrite my biology textbooks, are you? :p

My point about the whole deal stands:

Guys shouldn't defend themselves from theft perpetrated by women because it might look to third parties like he is assaulting them.

But given all the crap women have to deal with rape and domestic violence and physical agression, I guess this is expected.
Well, I agree that you shouldn't fight back, but because I'm a Buddhist, not because of gender.

At the end of the day, statistics are only right when they are right and while there's no harm in keeping them in mind, it's not wise to condemn peoples based on them. The people here did what most of us would have done in the situation, but it was ultimately the wrong choice.

Sure sucks to be those witnesses and that guy lol.
Finally we can agree!

BTW, I didn't know buddhism teached people not to fight back.. there are so many buddhist warriors in fiction.

@anthony87: Agreed.

Uh, what? If I saw a man restraining a woman who is clearly trying to get away (I assume they were probably yelling quite loudly) my first guess would be that he is attacking her. Blame it on society, blame it on our culture, I don't really care. The fact of the matter is that when something like what thought was happening happens, and you don't do anything about it, people can get hurt or worse. Were they acting before thinking? Possibly. I wasn't there, so I can't judge the situation myself.

Relevant story: My uncle heard a woman scream in a parking lot a few years ago. He ran to the noise to see what was happening and saw a man hitting a woman over the head. He attacked the man and when he realized he had a gun (he had pistol whipped her) my uncle disarmed him and tied him up with his belt. If my uncle hadn't acted out of instinct the woman could have died.

It's hard to judge the situation without being there, but if it looked like the woman was being attacked by the man I don't know many people that would stand there and consider, "Well maybe she was mugging him" before intervening.
I was agreeing with you, I said something similar in my opening post to Eri whom believed that the guys should have pulled them apart and begun questioning both parties as to find out who was the real culprit.

I would have done the same thing, grabbed the guy and restrained him. Your post was 100% percent accurate with good intentions gone wrong, it was nothing more than that.

Why would you post that gif?!
Do you want my ovaries to explode?!
*sniffle*
First my thoughts went to that sounds like a really awesome metal band "Ovary Explosion" and then my mind went to some people playing Hungry Hungry Hippos but with Ovaries snapping at the balls instead.

So to answer your question, I'm not quite sure if I do or don't. Need further testing, for science.
*cough*

It's all good, I did the same thing last night argueing about agreeing with someone. Just paying the love back.
Here, have some Spiderman to cheer you up.

Relevent sexism included.

Your biology textbooks didn't touch on the relationship between evolution and sociology and the related development of the human being?

I need to get you some better textbooks!
If you define better as including subject matter without a scientific basis...

Then sure... get me 'better' textbooks...

In the meantime I'll stick to sciences which don't require time-machines to provide that basis.

By the way, with all the sexism talk can we at least get the genders of those involved right?

The two people who stopped to help were A MAN AND A WOMAN.
Not TWO MEN.

Guilty as charged, I'm sorry.

But still, why did they asume he was robbing her and not the other way around?

I'd pick a man to be the aggressor over a woman any day of the week. Nothing to do with sexism, but men are far, far, far more likely to commit an aggressive crime than women are. Just how our hormones and brains work *shrug*
I bet you'd assume an adult to be the aggressor over an eight year old, too. Ageism!

Did any of you even read the article linked?
They saw the man trying to restrain the woman, dude was intoxicated, spoke limited English. They didn't see her nicking anything.
What would you think?
It was a heat of the moment thing and they made the wrong call.

I'm quite concerned about how they're both going to DO the town tonight and if there was a separate spin off comic for that?

Oh god, Mr Fantastic.
