Are you actually going to go into the stadium? If so I'll be the South African businessman selling earplugs to tourists...

Germany 4:0 Australia

BAM! That's what an opening game should look like! :D
Won't be able to sleep without earplugs tonight, the whole city's going nuts! There are literally thousands of people celebrating in the streets around my apartment! :)
Well in fairness, ye were by far the best team that's played so far. Some of the moves and passes they set up were like poetry!

If Australia wins tomorrow, I'll name my firstborn Fritz.

Think you could pull a few strings?
No Fritz for you.

4-0 WOW
Fucking Krauts.

We never stood any real chance against Germany, but even so, last night was embarrassing. I stayed up all night to watch it too.

Still, if any Italian players die, I'll be happy.

Love the game. Yet France couldn't score. I had tickets to the USA game and man that was quite thrilling. AND MAN WHAT A STADIUM THEY HAVE BUILT!!!!

I was very pleasantly surprised indeed. Our current national team is the youngest and statistically most inexperienced we've had in decades... worked like a charm though. ^^

One thing: We need to ditch Gomez. That guy may be a crackshot in the league, but he blows every single chance that comes his way while playing for our country, and it's been this way for over 4 years.
Oh, and Podolski needs to stop giving interviews, it's painful and humiliating. Remember Matt Damon from Team America? Yeah, that's him right there.

Teeheehee. Considering the geography, I suppose this is what a long-distance tea-bagging looks like. :p

About Italy... I remember the finale of the last world cup (at least I think that's when it happened) when Zinedine Zidane turned on his heel and headbutted one of the Italians for insulting his mother. Epic. xD

Don't like football really, and i'm sorry if I upset anyone, but I don't want England to win either, so I can channel surf and not see Alan Shearer flogging burgers, and so people will stop going on about it. Football players are not meant to be tabloid fodder. We are not supposed to know about what their wives are doing. They are not heroes either. They are kicking a ball around a field and hoping to get more goals than the other team. To me, thats not heroic. Y'know what? Give me baseball, ice hockey and American football any day.

Thoughts so far:

x. France is even worse off than I thought before the World Cup. They seem to rely on almost only individual performance and their team does not seem work at all. How the hell can Domenech still be headcoach after the disaster of the European Cup?

x. Holland is not impressing me either. They(as always) came in with a lot of confidence and almost arrogant attitude judging from interviews and did not do more than they had to to defeat Denmark - not persuading me that they are a solid team.

x. Argentina did not seem to have a functional team either. Sure Nigeria was very defensive, but they really should do better. That game could easily have ended a draw. The really worrying thing about Argentina is its defenders - has there ever been a great football nation with a slower paced line of defenders? They will get eaten up against teams with high speed.

x. Germany is very, very strong, although the match against Australia was not really to me a performance of a very superior German team, but a performance of a very functioning German team. If Australia had gotten their penality and if that awful red card had not happened - I think German would have still comfortably won, but not with a "crushing" victory.

I could keep writing, but I will save my thoughts until after I have seen Italy and Brazil. WUZZAH!

Hum. Well, that was interesting... I didn't know anything about Paraguay beforehand, so naturally my predictions were a bit skewed in favor of Italy, but all in all they held their own. Italy was superior at times, but not often and not vastly so. Fortunately the game picked up steam after a while, the first half hour was very dull.

I'm hoping France gets knocked out early so everyone shuts up about it over here. They take their football and rugby way too seriously in France.
LOL it must have sucked for you when they won back in 98.
I moved over here a year ago, so I wouldn't know... Judging on their regional finals celebrations though, I can make a pretty good guess...
Saw some live footage from Paris when France won the world cup, it was basically a riot :p
That about sums it up... and that's when they win...

LOL took you awhile to reply back. Mind if I ask why you moved to France? I really love their language.

Australia lost to Germany 4 Nil.

It wasn't much of a surprise but you'd have to be crazy to bet for Australia.

It's mainly because I'm a bitter Irishman and don't feel that they should have gone through and taken our place there by cheating thier way in... best to ignore me when I rant tlike that :D

I've been really impressed with Germany, they didn't piss about and just did what England, Argentina and Holland should've done and basically said 'we're a top team so lets annihilate the opposition in our first game to instill fear in all the other top teams'. And it's worked, I don't want England to end up facing Germany now. Also, that goal from Podolski, he hit that ball at 86mph! :O

Italy - Paraguay: 1 - 1. Not really an interesting match, somewhat expected better from the reigning world champions.

[sub]ps. whoo Netherlands - Denmark: 2 - 0, shitty match, but we won nonetheless :p[/sub]
