Who's psyched?

I love the World Cup, have since I was a little fella watching Gascoine, Schillichi, Maradona and Cascarino...

I'm hoping for a win from Spain or Holland, I enjoy both those teams. I also hope France get knocked out early and Thierri Henri gets booed off the pitch (apologies French Escapists... Irish man here, I still love your country)

So who are the Escapists rooting for?

Feel free to discuss the various games on this thread.

Who do you want to win? Who do you want to make an early exit?

Will the South African team do well? And will thier fans ever stop blowing those feckin' horns?
You couldn't have written a better script for France's World Cup disaster.
Anelka sent home, rumours that players won't pass to certain players becaause they "hate" each other, and now to top it all off, they're 1-0 and 10 men down to South Africa.

I've enjoyed seeing the big teams get humbled by smaller ones. Except England; I wish they would actually pull their fingers out...

New Zealand have been a joy to watch as well...they've played magnificiently considering they have no professional league, and half of their players had to get time off work in order to go to the World Cup.

Many of the matches so far have been a little dull but it's picked up over the last few days... still unsure about this whole "ball debate"...considering there's been ALOT of goalkeeper fuck-ups, maybe there's something to it?

... Huh. South Africa could actually still advance to the next round, at this point it doesn't seem so far out of reach anymore; they either need to score one goal and hope that Urugay scores another one, or they need to score two more goals. Difficult, yes, but entirely possible. What an interesting development...

I've heard a few Slovenians are mad at the US for our performance against them in the World Cup. They think Dempsey's elbow in the first half of the game should have been carded. I don't think it should have.
There's been so many elbows when people go in the air to challenge the ball. It happens.

However, the elbow that France did inside the box deserved a card and here's why:
The French player ran forward and jumped forward for the ball, while he was flying in the air, his elbow collided with a South African player's face. Not only did the elbow hit, but the French player proceeded to push the South African player's face away with his hand... Yeah, inside the pentaly area. Bad move.

HalfTime of the South Africa - France game. Bafana Bafana is winning 2-0

France is playing a man down due to a French player recieving a red card.

They should watch what they moan about, seeing as that third US goal should have been allowed, that was a much more dodgy descision. USA should have won that game.

2-0 now! France feeling the sting of karma :) now Henri is on... let's wait for his own fans to boo the little asshole off. I feel bad for the French football fans this year... what a discrace of a team.

Hm, so much for South Africa possibly making the cut. Shame...

Still, France is out, too, ranking last in their group. Gonna be a lot of drunk folk walking around Ireland tonight.

INdeed! Party in Ireland tonight :)

French coach wouldn't even shake hands with the South African one... even in defeat they had no honour.

Me too. My flatmate is Italian and a bunch of us watched the match the other day with our heads in our hands.... such a letdown from the world champs.

I thought so as well. Even if the refs missed one or two calls for Slovenia, the US had multiple poor calls against them. The handball in the box was one, I was very angry about that.

But I was the South Africans could have scored more so they could have gone on. Pity really. The French were dissapointing all around. Hopefully their country will let them know that they are not happy with their performance on and off the field.

Nigeria-Korea tied 1-1 at the moment. :)

The French have been more than vocal about their feelings towards the team... I have a lovely French girl as a flatmate (along with an Italian dude) and she said her boyfriend and all his buddies are ashamed of the disgrace of a team they had representing them)

Pretty rubbish World Cup so far with all the dodgy ref decisions going on. Hopefully a bunch of the refs get sacked or relegated to the lower leagues for the rest of their careers for being such disgraces.

Anyone ready for the England/Slovenia game and the USA/Algeria game??
Heh, England games are usually pretty good. Well, they are if you like watching a team filled with superstars somehow play like a 3rd division team. Bloody hell Rooney, start performing like you do at Man U damn it.

Anyone has seen the goal missed by the nigerian player? Everyone and their grandmom would have scored.

We shall see today.... I wouldn't be too dismissive, they might just pull it together.

I won't be sorry to see them to if they do though, only the French team have been more of a let-down than England.
