Jesus, it's like the refs don't want Americans to get into football.
Truest statement ever spoken by one man.

I was in class and when I got the text of the US scoring and winning, I yelled "YEA!" in class. Got me a few stares but it was worth it.

Go USA!

Well, the USA was in a really bad group overall, but they played pretty well. If they can get a really good start in the upcoming game(s), they may do well.

Still, if they have to play Germany I'll be annoyed.

Jesus, Germany haven't started too well... Ghana nearly scored twice now.

Nice to see the USA win the group, they deserved it.

Van Marwijk might substitute Van Persie, De Jong and Van der Wiel tomorrow. Would be a smart move, seeing as they're already on the edge with a yellow card.

I'm so hoping that Orange will do good this year. It seems they've realised that a world cup isn't a beauty contest. It's about being the sharpest, most efficient and most focused team for seven matches.

So, yeah. I'm curious as to see who'll be the Netherlands' opponent in the 1/18th finals.

*edit*

It's interesting to see how many players on the world cup have actually played in the Eredivisie. Even though we've become the Mickey Mouse-league of Europe (coming close to... well... Danish levels), we still supply some of the best players in the world!

Ghana 0:1 Germany
And again there's a party in the streets below my apartment. :)

I guess Rooney gets his wish - next game pits us against England.

Congratulations to USA, you beat the game and the referees.

England still have to try harder.

The new german uniform is very cool.

It was a bitter sweet end Australia. But yours were the nicest goals of the day.

So, Germany vs England - got to remind myself to go nowhere near the city centre that day, and to lock myself in my apartment and shut the curtains. There's going to be riots.

I got Japan in our little gambling thing, so I'm rooting for them next!

Haha, yeah, there's gonna be riots because England will get destroyed by Germany!

...at least if our team gets their act together until then. It was painful to watch how many passes the Ghanese(?) were able to intercept and how our defense was unable to stop them so often. But I'm optimistic!

I really hope so. The sooner Ingurland go out of the World Cup, the better. Our fans are horrible (expect to hear plenty of people singing songs about the Dresden bombings on Sunday), our players are worse (John Terry beating up black people, making fun of Americans stuck in Heathrow because of 9/11, and cheating on his wife with a teammates' girlfriend), and what 'World Cup Fever' does to our country is despicable, it makes racism, violence and misogyny acceptable in the name of 'supporting our country'. As soon as we get knocked out, it will stop like it always does, and I for one can't wait.

Also, I think it's Ghanaian? Not sure though.

I am ashamed to say that I will not be watching a certain game in a few hours because I don't have the stones.

A shame I know but I think this is one of those times you've just got to cover your eyes and wait 'till it's all over to see if it turns out okay. I think it's because while I'm a complete realist and as such I realise the huge task the All Whites have ahead of them, I still love the Disney-esque ending. Really I can't complain or ask any more of the team, the All Whites have performed far beyond what anyone expected. They've done the nation incredibly proud and they've given the proverbial finger to everyone who laughed at and doubted them - and not by luck but by courage and effort and all the things that the World Cup should be about.

So while I fully realise the reality of the All Whites game and fully appreciate that they've already done us incredibly proud in a way that won't soon be forgotten regardless of the result of the New Zealand vs. Paraguay game I still have to say this:

GO ALL WHITES!!

GIVE 'EM HELL!!

YOU CAN DO IT!!

Italy are in big trouble.

Currently losing 1-0 to Slovakia.
It was a nice goal though, can't remember the scorer as I was busy chasing down xkcd comics. :p

Slovakia wins 3-2 and heads to the knockout stage in their first world cup. The defending champs couldn't survive the group stage. We all knew the Italian players were past their prime, but I still expected more from them. That was some seriously weak defending.

They looked great in the last half an hour! Perhaps Pirlo should have been playing despite injury. Clearly Quaglierri should have been on.

Italy... you got pwned.

Slovakia 3, Italy 2.

Though to be fair, I'm not sure that one goal should have been called back because of offsides. It was an iffy call.

FIFA, start using technology in the WORLD CUP!

And Italy should have played better. They only really picked up their pace in the last 15 minutes of the game. It's a shame to see that from the former champs.

Then maybe Italy vs USA could be an interesting game since neither teams will show up for the first half.

Ah well, Slovakia was impressive and I kinda hope they continue to do well.

I've seen a couple of replays, it's more offside than not.
OT: Well, that happened.
I can't really say Italy embarassed themselves, they did what they could yet Slovakia just came out on top.

It's Robert Vittek.
Best Slovakia player of the tournament thus far.

So... the Netherlands versus Cameroon.

It'll be the return of Robben, if only for thirty minutes. It'll be fun, I hope. Perhaps this time the Netherlands will play like Ye Olde Days.

Although I suspect it'll be a boring slugfest, which'll only be good because my team wins.
