I was pulling for New Zealand... oh well. Their offense was non-existent anyway. As for Italy, I find it funny. There were some kids saying how Italy was going to win the World Cup, even after the two draws. I ask them why and they say because they'll "get better"... yeah, okay. They did, but about 2 games + 70 minutes too late.

Anyway, there's one quarter of the bracket that has Uruguay, South Korea, US, and Ghana. The other half of that side has Slovakia, and could easily have the Netherlands, Brazil, and Spain/Switzerland. Where's the justice there?

Netherlands - Cameroon: 2 - 1
Japan - Denmark: 3 - 1

Japan - Denmark is a surprise to me. Mostly because I'm a Tomasson fanboy (he's a Feyenoord man). The Netherlands won! Yay! We're so much better with Arjen Robben. Even though I'm a fan of Dirk Kuyt (he's a Feyenoord legend, so... yeah), he's nothing like Robben.

It was a close call, but that's good. Might motivate them even more. Still, I'm somewhat hopeful for Orange's chances. Mathijsen has now definately proven he's a Class A defender. Mark van Bommel is definately one of the best midfielders on the world cup so far. He rules like a sovereign on the midfield.

And Van Persie scored, so perhaps we unleashed the beast he was in the practice matches.

And Robben is back. Yay!

So, Germany vs England - got to remind myself to go nowhere near the city centre that day, and to lock myself in my apartment and shut the curtains. There's going to be riots.

I got Japan in our little gambling thing, so I'm rooting for them next!
Haha, yeah, there's gonna be riots because England will get destroyed by Germany!

...at least if our team gets their act together until then. It was painful to watch how many passes the Ghanese(?) were able to intercept and how our defense was unable to stop them so often. But I'm optimistic!
I really hope so. The sooner Ingurland go out of the World Cup, the better. Our fans are horrible (expect to hear plenty of people singing songs about the Dresden bombings on Sunday), our players are worse (John Terry beating up black people, making fun of Americans stuck in Heathrow because of 9/11, and cheating on his wife with a teammates' girlfriend), and what 'World Cup Fever' does to our country is despicable, it makes racism, violence and misogyny acceptable in the name of 'supporting our country'. As soon as we get knocked out, it will stop like it always does, and I for one can't wait.

Also, I think it's Ghanaian? Not sure though.
It must be fun to make random shit up. Especially about terry. Sure his a cheating bastard.. But seriously? Beating black people up and mocking americans about 9/11? hehehe that's new. Jeez.. I swear the english is the only nation in the world that gets called racist if it flys the flag of st george. I can only guess your scottish, mate. Because i can't see a english man having such hate for his own country.

You also mention english football violence, but for the last ten years or so there have been no football violence associated with england in the world cups or euros. Sigh.. Once a hooligan always a hooligan is your type of thinking i guess.

maybe halffinals maybe hmmm

and....what a disapointing game...both teams played defense! i was expecting portugal at least to go after the win! the 1st on this group goes to the easier half :O the 2nd (Portugal...) goes to the half where is Argentina,Germany,England,Mexico and probably spain!

I have oficially lost all respect for Torres.
Seriously, this guy is amazing.

I will be cheering my ass off if Chile somehow manages to score twice.

I also hope France get knocked out early and Thierri Henri gets booed off the pitch (apologies French Escapists... Irish man here, I still love your country)

Funny how the Irish memory runs pretty short when it comes to 'fair play' or 'the integrity of the game'.

It was one of the group matches, I'm sure it was Georgia, where Ireland got a penalty, it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen, from one of their defenders, which changed the whole course of the game. I think Robbie scored a penaltyand Ireland went on to win it. I don't remember the FAI after the game saying we should give them a replay.

That was a bad refereeing descision... we didn't blatantly cheat like Henri did. It was also not a crucial playoff game.

And Roy Keane is a ****.

I have no respect for anything he says.

The man is full of contempt for his own country and ruined the hopes of millions when he stormed out of the world cup because he wasn't getting his usual first class creature comforts.

Back 'home' to Fergie for his first class plane tickets and training pitches.

I wish I was making it up. Got in trouble for it back when he was a no-name kid, and then was settled out of court. As for the violence - maybe it's 'cause I've seen an asian friend who holds a season ticket for my local club being beaten up outside a pub after an England match for being a foreigner? Or maybe it's hearing a bunch of skinhead fucks calling Emile Heskey a n*****r. I've heard it done for Lennon, for Cole too in recent years.

Also, I don't hate my country. I hate the people who represent it. People need to start making that fucking distinction; that just because I don't support a bunch of overpaid arseholes falling over on a football field, it doesn't mean I don't care for my country.

And since you asked, I am both Scottish AND English.

Yes, mate. But fuck those racists. It's time we take the english flag from them. And that's what's been happening in the last few years. We have took the flag back from the BNP and those other racist fucks. And it's about time we should be proud to be english for once.

I totally agree about that - actually, Russell Howard had a good plan, that everyone in the country should join the BNP, force total leadership change and turn it into a democratic party. Would never work, but it's a nice idea ;)

I just hate the way patriotism has been used to cover up racism for so long now, and I really hate that the flag (and the football shirt) are used by people who don't stand for what this country stands for. Sorry for getting angry, didn't mean to take it out but it just riles me up a hell of a lot.

Wasn't the Brazil-Portugal game pretty boring by the way?

Unfortunately we don't go through to the next round. Damn.

I've never been a big soccer (football to the rest of the world) fan, but I must admit that the world cup is interesting me this time.

The only true way to enjoy this thread.....

Also: I've been shocked by a lot of the outcomes, most notably Italy being knocked out in round 1 of group play and the US actually winning their group.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/10420131.stm - the octopus says so!

Also, I love the vuvuzelas. What's all this football getting in the way of a perfectly good vuvuzela concert? I'm tempted to take one to my graduation.
