Would you cut off a limb to save a stranger?

I'd definitely consider it, if I thought there were any possible way of overpowering the psycho, saving the man and my limbs (I <3 my limbs), then I would choose that a million times before cutting off my limbs.
But assuming there's no overpowering Sir Jigsaw Jr. here, then I'd might do it, I like see a happy ending.

No. There's probably a better than 50% chance that I wouldn't even like the random stranger. Also if I cut off my own limb, the chance of me dying is extremely high. Firstly, I'm in an extremely vulnerable state (in the presence of a sadistic psychopath no less), almost certainly passed out. Even if he's good to his word, I would need immeadiate medical attention as I would be suffering from massive blood loss (minutes to live at most). Assuming I survive that the risk of infection (and subsequent painful death) is very very high.
To be honest even if I wanted to (which I would'nt) I don't think I could physically saw through a limb without survival instinct adrenaline boost kicking in, lopping something off quickly yes, but sawing no.

Yep, even knowing full well that I'd be thoroughly disappointed by their reaction. Helping people never, ever goes my way, but that doesn't really stop me.
EDIT: Read the OP. Wait, so if someone's got a guy at gunpoint, and I've got something capable of severing limbs, why am I not hacksawing that asshole's head off? I'd risk taking a bullet before I go all Aron Ralstons.

Yes, mostly so I could have an excuse to get a badass robot arm (paid for by the chap who I saved of course).
I don't think so. I know that I shouldn't really consider my limb better than someone elses life but in a situation like that, cutting off my limb doesn't seem like that good of an idea. I may just be entertaining the wacko who's holding us before he kills us both.
If it were my left leg specifically, then yes. I use all of my other limbs quite a bit. I can live without lefty.
actually in the start of baldurs gate 2, you are posed a similar question...i'll try to type it down but it's been a while so i might make mistakes:
you wake up in a small cage with no doors. you look around and find no possible escape, except for a button which you think MIGHT let you out. Before you press it, somebody appears outside the cage and calls out to you to halt. He explains the situation you are in:
You and another person (can't remember if it was a relative or a stranger, but lets say stranger for the purposes of this thread) are both locked in a cage identical to the one you are in now. You both have access to a similar button. You are out of sight of each other and there is no way to contact each other. You are placed in an anti-magic zone (it's forgotten realms we're talking about).
If you press the button, you will die but the person in the other cage will be freed.
If the other person presses his button, he will die and you will be freed instead.
If you both press the button at the exact same time you will both live and be released.
If neither of you press the button you will both die.

No. My body is my own, I know what I'm worth and I'm not willing to mutilate myself to save someone I don't know. They could be a saint, but it's also as likely they could be a complete and utter jerk.
While I hate having a negative outlook on humanity, I don't have enough faith in people to do something like that. Which is rather ironic considering it's the lack of kindness and compassion in the first place that gets me riled up about humanity.
I need to get myself out of this loop....

In that situation I'd doubt that the person would let either of us go anyway and instead try to use my working limbs to find a way to get both of us out.
However if it was an Aquaman type situation I guess i'd have no choice but to do my best to save the person.......... I wouldn't be happy about it though.
