I would not cut off a limb for a stranger. Nor would I cut off a limb to save myself. It belongs on my body and I wish to die as a whole being. Being mutilated on purpose is a disgrace.

You make it sound as if the body is a sacred thing ;P What is your body, to you? And it would be for a 'good' cause, not just for the sake of it, so it's not quite the same.

This is gonna sound really selfish but... I know that I, as a person, am capable of contributing something positive to society, whilst I have no idea whether or not that stranger is a good person or not.

So I wouldn't just out of caring for humanity? I sound like a selfish asshole stating that my "limb" is more important than someone else's life but... I mean... there are 6 billion people in the world, that person does not matter. In the end, we will all amount to nothing, so it doesn't matter who lives or dies...

True, you can't do that. The bad guy is behind some sort of bullet proof glass or something, you can't just kill him.

And he will let you and the other guy go if you cut off your limb, and he'll let just you go if you choose to not cut off your limb, with the knowledge that you played some part in a person's death.

If I could have some sort of anisthetic then yeah I guess I could but I could never live knowing I could have stopped the death.

Cutting off one of my limbs would make my life so much worse because I do sports and people die everyday anyway so I would let the stranger die.
