Yeah..i'm an american so unfortunately ther aren't many mainstream games where my country is "the bad guys." But yes. I would love to play a game where the U.S.A is the bad guys..I mean..we've done some pretty horrible stuff. you wouldn't even have to sterotype us to make us evil, though I'd like to see what other countries think of us...

I was reading about MW2's plot recently and realised that it is so anti-Russia that it isn't funny. Do any Russians find it somewhat hard to shoot your own men in the face?
Would any of you not play a game where you opposed your own country?
GRAW has done this. Enough said.

Well I'm American and since we're already the ass hole side in pretty much most modern wars, I'd say no, I wouldn't mind it that much. It's a game after all.

EDIT: misread the title. Seeing as I'm from Belgium, I find it hard to imagine that they would form any threat. If they were, I'd still kill them like it were my job.

Nope. If the story is well written, and every faction/etc. is implemented well into it I' would play it.

I think I would be a little put off by a game where my country is the bad guy for no other sake then it having drawn the short straw.

As an American though it just gets boring after a while, at least for me. Especially when I go to buy a new game only to find out I'll be playing as Soldier A fighting Russian's, Nazi's, American PMC's, or other American's, etc. Some other faction would be nice as well as a new enemy.

I'm also half romanian...so yeah, every game where you kill vampires also has me as the bad guy.

I rest my case.
NAZI VAMPIRE!
Did you watch that one?
I have this movie on DVD, it's completely hilarious!

I don't like being put against my country over and over again.

Sure, I'd play a game where the enemies are Finns and Swedes. No problem at all.

No, just did a google image search
U.S. would be a fun antagonist. Powerful, strong, modern military, latest technology. Would be fun to fight a country like that in a game. Much more challenging. And when they have the stealth bomber and you just have an RPG, it would require a bit more thinking.

I play Project Reality, where you can play as Iraqi insurgents and the Taliban, ambushing US and British troops on the other team with IEDs, mines, RPGs, bomb cars etc. It can be a lot of fun, but requires a lot of teamwork too, which you won't always get playing with pubbers.

I'm German and used to play CoD 2 for some time. Being able to understand what the AI is saying does help.

As long as the game is well made and doesn't depict every single inhabitant of my country as being horribly evil, I don't mind.
It's just the never ending repetitiveness of it, but I guess it's Germany's fate to forever be the country of origin of the bad Nazi dude in movies and games.

Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts had a Panzer Elite campaign. It was awesome!

Well, I so far haven't fought against my own country ever, much less over and over again.

Also, I don't much care for the U.S. military. I don't harbor any enmity for U.S. soldiers (both of my brothers has served- one got out of the air force a couple years ago and immediately joined the marines). However, I don't appreciate our neo-imperialist actions or our ultra-nationalist, all else below us, attitude.

I hope to move to Europe someday.

I'm Swiss-Canadian. I have only played one war game with either of those nationalities, and that was CoD3 with the Canadians.

I think it comes down to the target audiences. More people live in the US or EU that would play video games than in Canada or Switzerland, so they make the protagonists US/EU to appeal to the mass markets. Same reason books and movies usually use settings in America, as opposed to Canada.

I would play a game featuring Canada or Switzerland as a protagonist, but it wouldn't be a large part of my choice. At least not Canada; I WOULD buy a CoD game featuring Swiss protagonists.

So you're admitting to be a vampire? *pulls up a stake*

P.S. welcome to the Escapist forums.

I would. It'd be funny to see the US Army take on... the Puerto Rican military.

PS:
Almost all modern shooters put the Russians as the bad guys. I don't get why. Did they call America a nasty name? Did they call us fat? Why the hate?

Well I'm American and I shot Shephard's men in the face while playing as Soap so I guess I don't really have a problem with it.

I'm not sure actually, but thankfully I don't have to be. I'm Dutch and I mean really who would ever portray Holland as the bad guy, that's just silly.

Definitely! Evil bizarro Canada is just so novel, it would be hilarious.
Hm. I would play the game more if it were something involving the Canadians taking over USA and then more NAFTA-murders.
