http://fatpenguinblog.com/cory-maddox/xbox-360-total-cost-after-only-7-months-679-cheaper-than-a-ps3-i-think-not/

Explains a bit, although most PS3 games are Japan-centric. It even has estimated cost for the next 5 years.
Now before you say I'm a fanboy for saying that the PS3 is more cost effective, I do not own or plan to own either console.

And for a laugh

Can your PS3 do this?

If you want Halo 3, Gears of War 1/2, etc, get 360. If you want Killzone 2, MGS4 or LBP, get a PS3. It just matters what games you want. Their online capabilities are about the same but xbox has better support and experience, so they have a much better set up. Honestly, I have both and they are almost the same, just different games... Stop fighting which is better, it gets old.

If you have a PC do not get a 360.

If you arnt a PC gamer get a 360 before a PS3 as there are some excellent traditionally PC games on 360. If you want more consoley type games get a PS3 as they have some really good exclusives.

Its really that simple.

Get a gaming PC.
/facepalm

You're not helping. Don't be a PC elitist over this.

OP: It entirely depends on what games you want. Study the games for each console. Do you play online alot? Maybe the LIVE subscription is worth it enough for you. Do you care about multiplats? What about exclusives? Maybe you want some quirky downloadable titles.

It's not really up to us, so you'll have to do your own research. That's about as much help as I can give you.

I think the only real downside to the PS3 right now is the cost, which is a pretty shitty reason to say a system SUCKS. Most of the games that the PS3 has are also for the 360 (You could say it the other way around and it would be true as well.) So in terms of games, you arent really missing much by choosing one over the other. Then the PS3 has blue-ray, which will be handy if it becomes a much more used format of disc-memory. I suppose if you dont mind the whole RRoD with the 360 then there is no need to fear anything by choosing either and regreting it.

Of course, Xbox live, while requiring payments, is a pretty good networking system, assuming you can survive the 360 fanboys screaming into mics.

I find it pathetic when people outsource to the internet because they can't make a decision by themselves.

The playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 are two of the greatist gaming consoles to come out too date. And both have there own pro's and con's, but which one do you think is better fore someone who wants to move up to the next generation for the first time?
( to all the "reasearch you moron!" posters, i have done my reasearch. i know about the detailed pros and cons, i just want another persons honest opinion about his/her persional preference. yea, i should of looked at the other threads to make shure that this wasent a dead horse, but still, i just asked a simple question, no need to be rude.)
I own both console's and love them both like there my kid's
but all in all i have to accept that i enjoy the experiance with my PS3 the most because of a great PSN store full of video's and online magazne subscription's not to mention probally the most fun games i can get for 5 bulks and also a great amount of exclusive's

the 360 is the same but if i had to compare it to my PS3 i have to say the PS3 is more your money's worth

conclusion: after owning both console's for a long time i can see my PS3 lasting longer then my 360 (by that i mean the fun factor because the PS3 looks like it's gonna live longer)

If you want a great console then get the 360

If you want a great console that's seriously worth your money and one that can last you for the next 7 years or so then get the PS3

beside's the price is only about 2 weeks or pay differance

Yes, man I'm tellin' you, you gotta get the 360. Anyone who recommends the ps3 over the 360 was fooled into getting one, and is regretful in their decision, thats what happened to all my PS3 owning friends, (and there isn't anything out on the damn thing).

You have not experienced gaming till you have played the 360, any self-respecting hardcore gamer would be able to choose the 360 over the ps3.

The interface for the 360 is much better than the ps3's that one's just pathetic. The ps3 is the choice for the anti-social gamer.

Don't be a communist! Get a 360 instead! I hope I haven't gotten off-message but...

Speaking as someone who has all three current gen systems, I would rank them as follows (and remember, these are only my opinion):

Overall Best:
1. 360
2. PS3
3. Wii

Best Exclusives:
1. PS3
2. Wii
3. 360

Best Games Overall:
1. 360
2. PS3
3. Wii

Best Online Multiplayer:
1. 360
2. PS3
3. Wii

Best for (age >= 65 || age <= 10)
1. Wii
2. Wii
3. Wii

So out of all three, I find myself enjoying the 360 the most, so if you're on a limited budget, that is what I would recommend. However, certain exclusives (like Valkyria Chronicles, MGS4, and the upcoming Infamous) are all definitely worth playing. It really boils down to what system has the exclusives you want.

I don't know if that helps, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

From what I have seen if you like
FPS get a 360
RPG get a PS3
everything else is secondary, If the only games you liked were on an inferior system (PS2) then I would say you should get it over both of them.

If you like everything then get them both, grab a PSP and DS while you are at it, I am 3/4 of the way there myself lol

Three things that killed the PS3 for me:

1. The seriously poor decision to turn their back on PS2 owners by mucking around with the Backwards compatibility to the point that it's a completely abandoned mess. I'm not even sure they are working on correcting the emulation of certain games, because quite frankly Sony's position is that they want you to buy and play PS3 games, not sit around reliving your formative years with PS2 classic games you love. This is even worse with some of the less popular titles (Star Ocean: Til the end of time, Suikoden V). Mostly it was the way they chose to handle this and comments by it's management in regards to this that felt extremely condescending that really tweaked me and left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
My purchase of a 60 GB PS3 however resolved this for me, but only when I came across one at an extremely good price. No way I'd have paid full price for a new 80 gb.

2. The inability to change the stupid frakkin white text on the main dashboard menu. Seriously, the fact that after countless updates there is STILL NO OPTION to change this infuriates me enough to kick puppies. What POSSIBLE reason can Sony have for not allowing this function? It completely negates the ability to set my own wallpaper background from my own pictures because I have to select the most absolute dark color I can BECAUSE THAT WHITE TEXT CANNOT BE CHANGED!
I know I know, some people might find this a trivial gripe, but in an age where PC's are customizable to your particular taste, and where people enjoy personalizing their technology, this is as inexcusable as making a FPS with no online multiplayer or online CO-Op.
It's touted as the most technologically superior console on the market bar none, and yet changing something so bloody simple as menu text is like asking them to release the secrets of the Freemasons. Ridiculous.

3. Nickel and dime accessory scam.
Ok it's bad enough that all the consoles think it's ok these days to ship with one friggin controller and then charge you extravagant amounts of money for a second. But Sony takes this to a new extreme by first refusing to kick in an 8 dollar HDMI cable so you can get the most out of their much touted graphics capability and BLU-Ray player. However, I suppose this is a minor issue, but then it turns out to transfer my old PS1 and PS2 saves (you know, for the dozens of RPG worlds still hanging in the balance because I never got around to defeating the great "evil" Mage/Empire/Force/Meteor/God that threatens the universe) I need to buy yet ANOTHER ridiculously overpriced accessory, the Memory Card Adapter! Mind you, this is a ONE TIME USE item that You use, transfer your friggin saves to the hard drive, and then wham! You can toss it in the trash because the chances of you EVER needing it again are nil to none. To make things worse, it's not even reasonably priced at like $5, the damn thing can set you back a full $20. Thats the price of a friggin PS2 GAME! Thanks Sony for managing to exclude such a nifty, yet cheap, tool in that whopping $400 product you want people to buy.

And thus sums up what I feel is the reason why PS3's arent selling like gangbusters IMO. Sony's bone-headed almost intentionally mean business tactics that piss all over their fan-base in the quest to part you from just one more of your precious hard earned dollars.
I didnt even bother with Home and Playstation Online's flaws because it only matters really if you are an online game fan.

Xbox's have their issues too, but I at least I feel like Microsoft is TRYING to make me a customer as opposed to Sony who seems to be acting like I owe THEM some sort of favor for the privilege of "owning" their system.
