While it all depend on your personal preference, here's a short list of the pros and cons for both:

PS3:
Pros:
- Free online
- A sizable library of exclusive titles
- It's built like a US Navy battleship, both in terms of hardware and software
- Built in Wifi
- You can swap out the HDD for any SATA 2.5" drive
- Doubles as a Blu-ray player

Cons:
- More expensive than most variants of the 360

360:
Pros:
- More popular
- A sizable library of exclusive titles
- More exclusive DLC
- Extremely polished online play
- Most variants are cheaper than the PS3
Cons:
- You have to buy a separate wifi adapter
- You have to pay for an Xbox live subscription
- You have to buy specialized HDDs that only come in preset increments if you want to upgrade your storage
- RRoD
- Some have been reported to scratch discs

In the end though, it depends on which system has more of the games you want.
You forgot the file sharing aspect for the ps3. You can share DLC for games and such with up to give friends. Free. :)
Um... No you cant?
What DLC can you share with friends that you purchase? Certainly not any DLC that MATTERS unless you are including your family vacation photos as "DLC". But as soon as the PS3 gets some momentum behind it, somebody is going to start questioning the sharing of certain media (read: Mp3's and copyrighted videos) and Sony is going to shut down mp3 sharing on their network somehow for fear of lawsuits of being used for piracy, much like P2P suffers now.
You hear that? Thats the sound of your incredible FAIL! Not only are Sony aware of this, <url=http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2009/04/06/why-sony-wants-you-to-share-your-ps3-games-with-others.htm>they encourage it. Everything, except maybe major online games like Warhawk, can be shared between 5 people if one of them has payed for it.
Could you give me specific instructions on how to do this? ie- Where exactly in the menus do I go to send my PSN purchased games to a friend.

To the OP:
Look at the games library and decide which has more games you wanna play.

I went with a PS3 because:
-I hate the 360 community.
-Between my gaming PC and my PS3, the 360 has little to offer.
-I like the controller much, much more.
-I feel that Sony is committed to their consumers, while MS is committed to $.
-I prefer innovative Asian games to overdone western FPSs that could have been made 10 years ago.
-I hate the 360 community.

Ultimately though, it's up to you. Choose wisely.
P.S.- The Wii will bring more girls to your house than either one.

Buy a good PC then put emulators on it to play 360 and PS3 games.
You're out of your mind. Emulation is extremely inefficient. There are no viable PS3 or 360 emulators and even if there were, home computers would be powerful enough to run them for another 5-10 years. There's not even good Xbox or PS2 emulators.

If you want a monolithic (fucking huge) console with slightly better graphics, built in internet and the ability to play blue-ray get a ps3, if you want a console that is fun, has lots of good games, good graphics, is fun (did i already mention that?), more frequent game releases and looks nicer, get a 360. (I have a 360, so much better than a ps3)and 1 more thing i forgot, a 360 is half the price!

Not at all, I've just read a funny article on Microsoft 'stealing' the chip from a NY times article on the Intel antitrust lawsuit.

Ask yourself, are you a big fan of RPGS and the Japanese Culture? PS3.

Are you more of a macho, scratchy voiced alpha male who beats people to death with the sheer size of their massive erection? 360

Or are you five? Wii

No, seriously though, go to Wikipedia and look through the games for both systems. The PS3 tends to have more JRPGS and japanese games ala MGS. 360 tends to be more varied.
lawl, well acording to that i should have a ps3, but i think ps3 is bull. blue dragon is a good enough JRPG to keep me on the 360, with CoD 4 and burnout Paradise lining my game shelf as well. (also, i can get final fantasy 11 for 360)

That may be true, but they'll all be about 6 years old!

...I wouldn't go with either of them yet. This is just me, and I don't expect anyone to agree with me here, but I would just stick with what you have until the PS3 is fully backwards compatible, if that ever happens. I have a PS2 and I have no intention of moving up for a long time. I have a whole bunch of good games that I can't play on the PS3 and I don't want to rebuy/were never made for Xbox. Which would you rather have, a semi-inferior system with a rack of games the size of Seto Kaiba's ego (it requires a blimp for it to spread out comfortably) or a top-of-the-line system with maybe a go-kart full of games, most of which, in my opinion, are not fun?

I have friends with both systems and I can go over to their houses if I want to play a next-gen game. That's another factor, do you already have access to one or more of those systems? I'm lucky, I'm a white, upper-middle-class, College Town USA geek with white, lower-middle to upper class friends. I'm doubly lucky in that my College Town USA has a back-alley game arcade that has Internet access, at least 28 Xbox 360s, four Wiis, and around 30 high end gaming PCs.

Anyway, that's my take. Stick with the PS2 and some fun games. If tortured, I'd say get the 360 as it has the most games and the best online (though the dipshits are kind of annoying...). Plus, you get FF13 either way. BONUS!

I picked a 360. Here are my deciding factors:

Money (I got one for 130 USD with hard drive. That's not normal, of course. That's a casual acquaintance price.)

I had an old school XBox, and not a PS2, so I get some backwards compatibility with games I already own. This also makes the controller somewhat familiar (not to mention I got a 360 controller for my PC before I got this).

LIVE seemed good compared to PSN. Even though it does cost some money.

It's easy to develop for. As a University student, I can get an XNA creators club gold (or something) membership for free and debug games on a 360. If I want (and can find the time to work some day), I can also release community games. This membership costs $100 a year if you can't get into this sort of thing for free. Granted it's not a full SDK, but it's better than you can get for the Wii or PS3 without spending *thousands*. I do also remember hearing some companies complaining about the obtuseness of the PS3.

"Have you ever played Wii Fit?"
Saying those words 10 minutes before the bar closes has gifted me with more than a few drunk girls gyrating and bouncing in my living room. Try that with Halo 3 or MGS4. They come for the Wii Fit, but I really like to make them box each other.

Im hopefully going to get my first part-time job soon so I'll be able to buy a kick-ass PC and a PS3 in the space of one year... With this combo I can get a majority of good games. Why PS3? Well, I am buying it exclusively for it's exclusives (inFamous, Ratchet and Clank etc...) Xbox 360 exclusives are okay, but I just prefer PS3 exclusives. I would also play games that have crap ports on PC on PS3.

I owned both consoles, PS3 wins in 99.95% of the area's, what it lacks is the 12 year old american's shouting n00b when you put a bullet through there brain.

Also xbox marketplace is easier to navigate apparently, i got rid of it before the last update so i don't know anymore.

Whichever one you want. Do some research son. Look up the good games for either system, consider how you want to use it, then get one/

DON'T, and I mean it DON'T listen to anyone who says "PS3 IS BETTER THAN XBUX LULZ" or "XBOX IZ BEST CUNSOLE LULZ". Look at the exclusives, look at how much they each cost, look at what features they have then you, by yourself, decide if you wanna buy a Playstation or an Xbox.

First of all you ned to take a look at the exclusive titles second of all test them out and se which controler is most comfortable for you. After you have done these things you can take a look at the price and compare the functions you need. For example do you need wi-fi do you have a psp and do you have a hd-tv. I have a ps3 and i gotta tell you blu-ray movies is the shit maybe it's just me but i think it's eyecandy. But of al those reasons the exclusive games is the most important.

And yeah sorry for bad english XD
