I have a PS3 AND an Xbox, but I'm selling the Xbox 'cause I got the red ring of death.
So I'd say get the PS3.
Send it for repairs. I did that and Microsoft gave me three months free on XBL Gold membership. Plus they replaced the system completely so it's a new model, it shouldn't get the RRoD now.
OP, I say go with whatever you want. The PS3 is a powerhouse and has great graphics and power and speed and whatnot, but very few exclusive titles worth getting. Most of the good stuff there is multi-platform (although I admit it has a few good exclusive games, I'm pissed off still that Heavy Rain will be PS3-exclusive as it means I can't get it). Generally though, the PS3 doesn't have a lot to offer that's exclusive and actually good.
The Xbox 360 is great if you care more about gameplay, and it still has excellent graphics anyway. It also has a lot more exclusive material that is actually really good, as well as the great arcade games on XBL. However, you do have to be careful about the RRoD, although you have three years before you really need to worry (3 year warranty FTW, better than Sony's deal, anyway...).
It's probably obvious that I prefer the Xbox 360 from that, but although I own an Xbox and not a PS3, I have played both extensively. Until the 360 came along I was a Sony fanboy, and I have a lot of experience with both consoles. After that, I found I prefer the Xbox 360. Overall it's up to you though, it just depends on what you personally are looking for as a gamer. You're the one who'll have to play the games, after all, not us.
