I like the xbox.
No matter how many times it breaks, I can fix it easily for no charge.
You can fix XBOX's easily for no charge? What?
Xbox's are more user friendly than the PS3.

If mine breaks, I won't send to Microsoft for 2 weeks, I'll fix it myself. They usually have very easy, fixable problems.

Ah yes gears and mass effect... As a PS3 owner, they're the games I found most tempting... Though Infamous and Killzone are lovely too... Console exclusives, so unfair...

Oh the horror... the horror...

Seriously, how can you even consider getting a 360?

But then again I am slightly biased, as is everyone here.
Makes you wonder why people even bother asking The Escapist what console to get, 99.9% of us are biased lol.

Disagree on Killzone, but I do find myself lying awake at night thinking about Infamous. Then I play Prototype but can't help but think "Well yeah, but they have it too."
Resistance is the better PS3 FPS in my opinion.

I have a PS3 AND an Xbox, but I'm selling the Xbox 'cause I got the red ring of death.
So I'd say get the PS3.
Send it for repairs. I did that and Microsoft gave me three months free on XBL Gold membership. Plus they replaced the system completely so it's a new model, it shouldn't get the RRoD now.

OP, I say go with whatever you want. The PS3 is a powerhouse and has great graphics and power and speed and whatnot, but very few exclusive titles worth getting. Most of the good stuff there is multi-platform (although I admit it has a few good exclusive games, I'm pissed off still that Heavy Rain will be PS3-exclusive as it means I can't get it). Generally though, the PS3 doesn't have a lot to offer that's exclusive and actually good.

The Xbox 360 is great if you care more about gameplay, and it still has excellent graphics anyway. It also has a lot more exclusive material that is actually really good, as well as the great arcade games on XBL. However, you do have to be careful about the RRoD, although you have three years before you really need to worry (3 year warranty FTW, better than Sony's deal, anyway...).

It's probably obvious that I prefer the Xbox 360 from that, but although I own an Xbox and not a PS3, I have played both extensively. Until the 360 came along I was a Sony fanboy, and I have a lot of experience with both consoles. After that, I found I prefer the Xbox 360. Overall it's up to you though, it just depends on what you personally are looking for as a gamer. You're the one who'll have to play the games, after all, not us.

It really all depends on your needs and current situation....

Do you already have a Blu-Ray player?
Would you want to play online more often?
What type of games do you prefer?
Do you game on PC?
Do you have big hands?

These are the questions that would need to be answered... here's my take on both systems:

PS3 - Stumbled out of the gate trying to justify the price of it's hardware, but since the price drop and the release of some quality titles it's getting a lot better. The PSN is free, but you get what you pay for there. Would get one if I didn't already have a Blu-Ray player and if I had enough time to dedicate to more than one system, as Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and Demon's Souls look like good titles. I hate the controller though, but I have big hands.

360 - The older generations were very prone to breaking, as I went through two of them myself, but I never had to pay for a repair and they were pretty quick. The new chipsets and the Elites have much better failure rates (they've only been out about a year though). A better online community and has more of the games that I like to play on it. My system of choice, mainly due to games like Gears, Halo and Mass Effect. Best controller of this generation.

I am very impressed at the level of civility in this thread. Long may it continue.

The 360 has more exclusives right now, but making rocket propelled penises in Little Big Planet is just too much fun.

I know, a lick of luminous green paint on those rings and we're good as new.

I'm actually not a fan of either really, it's got nothing to do with fanboyism, because fuck I want to play Uncharted 2, they just don't appeal to me for some reaon.
Same here... I felt that Resistance's co-op was tacked on and the ability to shoot through walls ruined the multi-player for me. Killzone looked great but ultimately played like shit. There are PS3 games I legitimately want to play, like Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls, but the exclusive shooters for the system were lackluster at best in my opinion.

Infamous looked decent, but it's not my type of game. I didn't play prototype either. I was initially interested in MGS 4 but after reviewing a lot of the story aspects of it, it seemed more like a movie than a game. LBP looks good but it's not my thing.... If PS3 put out Heavy Rain, Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2 back when the system came out I would probably own one by now, but there's no reason for me to change.

Personally, I'd go with a PS3. It just seems like a more solid piece of hardware and has more exclusive games that I'll NEVER see on the PC. Most titles on the 360 that I'm interested in also make appearances on the PC, so I've got that covered there. On the other hand, things like Demon's Souls are never appearing beyond the PS3...

Don't worry mate, I ain't gonna accuse you of fanboyism. Also, yeah I too can't wait to get Uncharted 2, until Christmas. *Sigh*

Do you have friends?
if yes, do they have consoles?
If yes, do you wan't to play online with them?
If yes, go with whatever they have, and in case some have one and some the other, go with the one those you'd rather play with have.

Same argument but swap "play online with them" for "borrow gams form them"

Well I noticed you wanted to buy a PS3 just because FF13 was on it, mind you that FF13 Versus which is a completely diferent game will be exclusive for the PS3 (just stating a fact here).

Back on topic I'd say get a 360 if you like its exclusives and to play online or a PS3 if you like to watch Blu-Ray or its respective exclusives.
I love RPGs and up until now the PS3 was very satisfactory tho the 360 has a bunch of yumy RPGs of its own.
Do note that both have some preety neat exclusives altho the 360 is leaned towards shooters in that aspect.
Also dont believe that multiplatform games are better on the 360 its the same (personal experience here).
Also quoting people above me some of the 360s exclusives end up making an apearance on the PC while the PS3s are completely exclusive.

My opinion: get a PS3.
