To be fair, it isn't as though the technology to make the console less likely to damage a disc in motion doesn't already exist. My laptop for example have never scratched a disc because of motion and it's optical drive cost a whopping 25 USD. My PS3 has never once eaten a disc because the console has been shifted. To be completely fair however, the only time my xbox ate a disc was when it was shifted from a vertical placement to a horizontal position, and this occurred rather abruptly when an acquaintance bumped it in passing.Glademaster said:Why do you bring up the point that moving it breaks the games? Actually, there is a program to map buttons and analog sticks to your keyboard and mouse.Patrick_and_the_ricks said:Yup, I use a wire for my controller to connect to my PC. Yep. And beside, I once dropped my Gamecube from a five foot high shelf, it rolled all around the floor and when I looked back, the game was still running perfectly. Consoles can be built to avoid this problem.
Ex. I was going to a cousin's house, when there's a sudden crash at an intersection. I was heading straight for it. Thankfully, I managed to stop in time. My Wii, however, went flying through the windshield.
It still works. A few scuffs, but nothing some white paint can't undo.
You are paying for a service. You are not paying for the guaranteed right to use the service. For example, my satellite TV works in much the same way. When my receiver died, I did not get a single penny back for the week it took to get a replacement. In much the same fashion, I pay for internet service. For two weeks said service was out because of various technical problems with equipment provided by my ISP. Once again, I did not receive a refund.instantbenz said:It's theft if you've paid $50 dollars for a year's worth of service that you could be playing for that time. And at times it's more than a week. Oh yes it is very petty to mention this, but the reality is most people have gone through multiple xboxes. Also many people have had xboxes since release. Xbox's service for *giving you a new xbox* became dramatically faster only a year or two ago. Previously a person had to wait nearly a month to get *their* machine back. So to calculate for me for instance ...
Just a quick tip: if you want to build a case based around the concept of "the other guy is a cheat" don't go and tell me that you're an even bigger cheat. You throw any sympathy I might have had right out the window.instantbenz said:8 xboxes 2 of which I scammed walmart into exchanging so of the 6 remaining only 2 of them had a 2 week turn-around so ...
4 xboxes sent x 4 wks is 16 weeks which comes to approx. 16$ plus 2 from rapid turn-around is 18$
While I agree that the failure rate of the 360 is troubling, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's unacceptable. Why not? Because people continue to purchase and play with said device in spite of its history of failure.instantbenz said:I completely agree. It comes down to people accepting the fact that things aren't going to work. It's completely unacceptable at the current rate. Nothing's perfect, but having fixed a few 360's after E74s, there is NO REASON m$ can't get this right.
Laptops and PCs and PS3 and xbox 360s all have installs to stop the disc from spinning at ridiculous speeds so this doesn't happen. If someone doesn't install their games and then moves their console about a different axis to the one the disc is spinning is probably an idiot. If it happens by accident fair enough but there are plenty of ways to avoid this yourself if you choose to buy a xbox. Microsoft is not going to shell out their money to add in another to fix to a problem that already has a fix there for you. They are a greedy business that is never going to change.Eclectic Dreck said:To be fair, it isn't as though the technology to make the console less likely to damage a disc in motion doesn't already exist. Well, I mean, that was sort of my point. You don't have to buy the headset for the 360. Perhaps you weren't saying you do... unless you mean the wireless one.migo said:If you already have one for your cell phone you can use that though, and the one you get for the PS3 is also cell phone compatible. So what you're saying is that to fully play the Kinect properly you have to stand up and be naked. For one, the xbox is the only console that noms on games if you move it. No other console did that. Christ even the PS1 didn't do it. It's because they removed a component that keeps the disk of the scratchable surfaces inside to save money. The RRoD was also commonly linked to poor soldering, as the Xbox was classed as a toy, not an electrical. Also with kinect, it's kind of stupid that you can't wear baggy clothes to play it. I appreciate the issue they have, but causing you to either play naked or in new clothes (if you wear baggy clothes that is) seems like a problem they've found and couldn't be bothered to fix.Glademaster said:Why do you bring up the point that moving it breaks the games? Guess what else the xbox 360 is the only console that doesn't lock games into place all it has is a disk tray. Every other game console that used a disk has spun at less speed and locked discs into place. This is not a problem with the Wii because it spins at slower speed and not with the PS3 because you can install games. This is also not a problem with the Xbox either because guess what for waiting less than 5 minutes you can install the damn game. If you don't install the game and then proceed to have the console moved about a different axis to the one the disc is spinning you're looking for trouble.KaiRai said:For one, the xbox is the only console that noms on games if you move it. In short, they're just problems that mount up through speed designing it. This is where the competition between Xbox and PS3 becomes a little too much.
For the record, I've had my xbox chew a game up because it moved slightly when I plugged in my controller. It's a problem that never existed until the 360. Also, what about people who don't know how to install a game? I've had mine 5 years now and this is the first I'm hearing about it. Plus I only have a 20GB hard drive, that's mostly full of saves and updates.Glademaster said:Guess what else the xbox 360 is the only console that doesn't lock games into place all it has is a disk tray. Of course with Kinect it is stupid and yes it is a problem that they are not bother to fix because all Kinect really is at the moment is just a way to try make some quick money and get in on some of that Wii casual audience cash cow. It could be good I don't know it is not out yet but from the marketing that has been done around that is all it seems to be because of this things like it not working with baggy clothing will not probably not be fixed because that will cost more money.
On the RRoD I would like to point out that the max number of times I know someone having to resend their xbox back to Microsoft is 2 both being the editions with the shoddy chip sets. My xbox did not RRoD and it was a launch so I would have to say taking care of the xbox and keeping it well ventilated goes a long way to keeping it going. Also I would like to point out that some of those people would go through many different phones a year through dropping them.
No stereo audio out? That can't be true. That would leave optical and HDMI as your only options for hooking it up to a receiver. Stop creating fictional televisions.MiracleOfSound said:It has headphones out, which is a single jack connection. a) You use Turtle Beaches or stereo connected 'XBOX Compatible' gaming headphones
b) Your TV does not have Audio Out phono jacks
I wasn't saying the phone thing because they drop I said it to point out that they are kinda careless people when it comes to things like this. I also explained why this has problem has never exist until the 360. Higher spinning and no locking mechanism because it is only a disk tray and people not installing. Also installing is easy you click Y for game details go down to install and wait. Also it is worth having a psace just for installed games and 20 gb hard drive is really not enough if you go online and get updates and DLC. With my old xbox I never got updates and racked up over 10gb just by playing games and not getting any DLC just the odd forced update off a game so that is a limitation of a small hard drive. Really I do have to ask how have you not heard about the xbox adding an install feature? I know it didn't come with it from launch but it has been around for good while now.KaiRai said:For the record, I've had my xbox chew a game up because it moved slightly when I plugged in my controller. I've had to send mine back twice because of the RRoD. It's just shoddy build quality. Think of a builder building you an extension and it falls to pieces a year or so later. Also, on the phones thing, I don't think the RRoD is caused by people dropping it.
And now I'm wondering if the 'baggy clothes' will also be a problem for overweight people... a lot of gamers aren't the skinniest chaps.scw55 said:So what you're saying is that to fully play the Kinect properly you have to stand up and be naked. I already told you, it has a single jack audio out. And it's an LCD gaming/graphic design monitor, it's quite common for those, so don't be such a fucking smart ass.PhiMed said:No stereo audio out?
