Video games? School Shootings? FOX is gonna have a fucking ball.
Really, who wouldn't of informed the police?
Fox news: Some would have you believe that an Satinbox... er, Xbox live player informed the police of a possible school shooting, but we at Fox News have the REAL story. The Xbox live player was working with the suspect to shoot up the school. He got the idea from videogames!

Gamers: Oh, just go die!

Fox News Believers: :O I knew videogames would be involved!

Were you thinking something along those lines?

Any sane person on the planet would have reported him, regardless of whether or not they play games...
i wouldn't as its not my business and i learned not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong.
So you would let innocent people get murdered because 'its none of your business'???

That's incredibly pathetic... I don't mean to insult you or anything but how would you live with the shame of not doing anything?
because people are attention whores and talk shit on online games all the time. why should i raise the alarm and cost both countries an innumerable amount of money for some 10 year old ass wipe trying to be gangsta?
Yeah a lot of people talk shit but usually they don't detail out their plan, their targets and so on. Obviously this guy's BS was above and beyond the normal idiocy and raised some alarm bells for the Alberni man.
That was my thinking as well. There's "talking shit over Live" and then there's obviously meaning what you are saying. Add to this the fact that the report says when the Planner was asked about more details on his plan he didn't back down or say he was just joking, he immediately logged off. Either way, I'm sure the police wouldn't have (and wouldn't have been able to) progress this any further then a simple complaint investigation if they didn't find some hard evidence once they found the Planner himself.

"Attention whore goes to jail for being a dumbass"

I'm just thankful that a gamer STOPPED a school shooting instead of COMMITTING one. If the gamer was responsible for the shooting, the games would have been blamed as the influence that made him do it. Maybe this article will help politicians get it through their thick skulls that "gamer" does not necessarily mean "criminal." Of course, Michael Atkinson probably won't be affected by this story in any way. I'm glad I don't live in Australia!

You know what's unfortunate about this? It's far more likely that this would be read as 'gamer was going to shoot up his school' than 'gamer prevents school shooting'...

Anyone wondering why the gamer wasn't even mentioned in this paragraph?
I was thinking the exact same thing. At least it didn't say anything bad about gamers and portrayed us in a somewhat positive light.
All this article proved is that humans in any part of society are still humans. With all the good, the bad and the in between.[sub] And the stupid.....we can't forget the stupid.......[/sub]

Awesome, but why do I have the feeling that somewhere else, this is being reported as "Gamer Plans Shooting, is Foiled at the Last Minute", with no mention of the guy who reported him also being a gamer?

I've stopped people from committing suicide over the internet. But I'm not special. But hey. - That's not the point.

I think this is just an average scene with gamer tagged on the end. I believe any normal person would have contacted the law or ignored it alltogether.

Way I see it it was probably some teenager shittalking/talking big and when it got "serious" or noticed that the other guy apparently thinks he is serious he stopped.

4chan is probably full of terrorists, suicide bombers and people trying to blow up their school...
I don't give two damns if he was serious or not. If I met someone like that the first thing I would do is give the cops him his gamertag.

He also got caught, which pretty much means any plans he did have are done for. It's pretty easy to say "I'm sorry, and I never meant to actually follow through on any of that" once you're facing the authorities. He may never have carried out any of what he said and maybe he was just spewing garbage online, but the fact he's saying sorry about it now isn't really a confirmation or a denial of how serious it could have been had it not been reported.

Also, as I recall, in many situations where plans such as these were acted upon, there was online interaction (message boards, blogs, etc.) involved. I don't really see it being over Live making it any less valid than if he had posted a blog about doing the same thing.

I am amazed (on the first page at least, which is all I have read so far) no one mentioned how amusing it is for a 2010 article to show an original XBOX... I mean, I know it is not a big deal, but it is amusing.

Haven't you ever watched Power Rangers?

And its DragonZORD. Not DragonSAUR.
