coming out many games are, priorities to sort I have

So I've been wondering if I should buy Brutal Legend. Reviews say yes and I'd go with that but with Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Bioshock 2, and you get it, Brutal Legend might get the ax anyway. The big thing I'm wondering is if Yahtzee is right about Brutal Legends RTS parts. I'm not a fan of RTS but if I'm going to play and RTS game I want a half-way decent RTS experience. So, my question to you is: Are Brutal Legends RTS sections really far too simplistic?

Edit: People have been complaining that this topic was discussed in the comments section of Yahtzee's video. Fine, leason learned. People shut up.

Lets just say this: Brutal Legend was one of my favorite titles of all time. I loved it, EVERY PART OF IT.

What the?

Why are we discussing this now?

No.

Why are we discussing this in a entirely new thread? There's a comments section on the video for a reason!
Yes the comment sections on several week old videos are always a hotbed of converation.

To be honest, Brutal Legend isn't am RTS on anything more than a superficial level, since there is little reason to divide your forces or plan your attack. The focus is on individually commanding units as a double team and fighting alongside them, while using solos to support your troops. Personally I enjoyed it quite a lot, especially playing online.

Really, it's quite a lot different from any other RTS so it's not a good place to start in the genre, but if you can get into the battles they're a lot of fun.

The RTS sections are rather simplistic and just really, really weird. However, the fact that you can fly around the battlefield or turn enemies into roadkill with your car redeems it a bit, and in the end those sections aren't what you play the game for, anyway. Yahtzee definitely exaggerated about the amount of RTS sections in the game, and you'll probably just spend hours driving around the sandbox, collecting stuff and doing side missions, and I can say I enjoyed it a lot. The biggest gripe I have with the game is the fact that there's not a lot of replay value in Brütal Legend, since once you've seen and done everything at least once the game loses the very important element of surprise. Overall though, I can recommend Brütal Legend... and if you're unsure about it, why not just rent it first?

I really like Brutal Legend too. While it's not the longest game and doesn't have the most replay value, it's wholly unique. And that's a lot more than most of the other games on your list can say. Games like MW2, while being great games in their own right, are not at all original. There is basically nothing in MW2 that hasn't been done before. Brutal Legend on the other hand is something unlike anything I've seen before. Definitely worth playing, imo.

Facts are fact, I ain't going to read upwards of 10 pages of jimmer-jammer just to find the couple relevent bits of information.

Honestly the RTS bits of brutal legend are just a relativity small part of the single player game proper. its not overly complex and easily broken with your own powers. the multi-player however is all RTS slightly more fleshed out and has significantly less powerful hero characters so it evens out. You can easily go through the game hacking and slashing with minimal unit control and strategy. all in all its worth the experience to play through, but the campaign is short. 4 hours on my fastest play through. go to your local Hasting and drop the seven bucks to rent it for a week, because Brutal Legend freaking awesome and worth playing.

it is an RTS in Disguise. but if u like Rock Music i suggest buying it. its extremely fun and the story is amazing. especially with some of the music in the cutscenes. Mr. Crowley will forever be etched into my memory just because of a scene in that game

Its a good question. My problem with renting the game is that its already short of the more you play the game beforehand the less content there is to buy with your $60.

I'm not sure to be mad at the creators for this because the demo does not advertise that it's a RTS anywhere in it. It seemed like a fairly fun hack and slash game with some good humor...but instead it's a RTS? They could have just had a demo of the combat with a battle or something

Brutal Legend was not a good game. The story was mildly interesting and I played it through to the end but it was nothing special. The gameplay was uninventive and repetative, and once the story was over I just stopped playing despite the many hours of side missions that were placed randomly around the map. Most of the side missions were just the same mission, which was to kill about 10 or 20 enemies without losing all your chums. You could play this mission anywhere up to 6 gazillion times if you'd a mind to.

I wouldn't recommend it.

I think that he was right about a lot of the gameplay involved with the RTS part of the game

But you could always rent it?
The humor, the amazing art design and the story are all worth it IMO, and if you follow this kind of music and listen to the bands on the soundtrack... its even better when you fight along side Rob Halford killing demons... its like a dream I had once

Its a decent game to play once... or twice if you really love it... But frankly I m not play $70 canadian for it.. Ill wait till it drops in price. But basically if you like metal, like Jack Black and/or guitar stuff in general you will probably like this game.
