If the movie's bad, I suppose it would be okay.
Me, though, I would never do that. I'm not creative enough to think up a hilarious joke on the spot.

Like someone else already said, it depends on the movie and the size of the audience. Doing movie commentary MST3K-style might work better at home...

In my opinion, it depends on the movie. If it's a godawful movie ala Green Lantern or more than a year old, then any heckling of it is fair game, especially if done in the vein of MST3K.

If it's actually a decent and new movie though, it's generally in poor taste to heckle it.

Not okay. Usually the people who do this are complete idiots, so whilst they and their small group of friends may find it amusing, everyone else is cringing and trying to figure out how to best get away with forced euthanasia in a movie theatre. You'll never be anywhere near as funny as you think you are, so save your poor attempts at humour for when you're watching a movie at home with some friends and a few beers.

NO. I absolutely hate people who talk during movies unless I'm sitting next to them and they whisper.

Sadly people around here don't usually do much of that. My friends and I generally keep our commentary to ourselves which is fine with me, as usually people just get pissed.

I do remember seeing the Sixth Harry Potter at midnight and it was a scene where Mrs. Weasley said, "Oh that Dumbledore, I don't know what we'd do without him" or something around those lines.

Anyways, I said, "You'll find out" in a rather outdoors voice and it got some good laughs.

It's okay to do in private but not in public. No matter how bad you think the movie is someone else might like it and you're ruining the experience for them if you keep shouting stuff. Rule number one: don't be a douche and shouting stuff during a movie and disturbing others is douchey.

If the film is one of those "only seeing it for mindless bullshit for a couple of hours" then I suppose it's all good. Like when I saw Transformers 2 me and my friends managed to set off an entire chorus of people loudly criticising the film's bullshit.

Plus going into slasher films and loudly telling the characters what they should be doing instead of what they are doing, and predicting who's going to die or when the killer is going to show up next is always amusing. Oh the sarcastic comments my friends have made on the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween films...

But normally when I go to the cinema I just stick to listening out for the Willhelm Scream sound effect then standing up and loudly screaming "WILLHELM!" in a very bad German accent. I like to think I made the Star Wars prequels just that little bit more entertaining.

well if you liked Green Lantern you shouldn't be here, you should be in your room coloring. Another guy who liked the movie colored a picture of a fire truck for me today. It was blue, but he almost stayed completely in the lines. Good for him.

Seriously though, if you liked it, whatever. But it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life.
If the, admittedly, not great Green Lantern movie is the worst thing you've seen in your entire life, you need to get out more. I know you didn't mean it literally, but that particular choice of words has always bothered me.
Well now that I've seen Birdemic, I can't honestly say that GL was the worst anymore

Trying to live out MST3K? Not so good when people pay ten dollars a pop plus food and beverage...

- Exactly that. Don't ruin the experience for anyone who might be enjoying the film, even if it is terrible.

No, never, hell no, fuck no. If you do this you should be kicked out. I paid to get in and watch a MOVIE. Not to listen to some prat for 2 hours.

I hate when people do that. It's irritating and the people doing it are never, let me repeat that for emphasis, NEVER as funny or clever as they think they are. After seven movies, making penis/wand jokes about Harry Potter really isn't funny.

The only time I've ever enjoyed it was at a screening of The Room in college and that was only because we were given plastic spoons and footballs to throw and everyone knew what to say on cue. That and everyone was pretty tipsy.

While my friends and I may whisper comments to each other to liven things up a little, I would never do it so others could hear me. Despite my thoughts on the film, others are there watching and possibly even enjoying it and my ego isn't big enough to think I could entertain them better.

I don't shout, but I do whisper remarks to my friends. Unless they don't want me to, then I just struggle to contain it.

When I went to see Paranormal Activity there was a big scare and everyone started muttering. This one guy shouted "Shut the fuck up and watch the film!" and I instinctively donned my upper-class-woman voice and called back "Language, sir!" But that's the only thing I've ever yelled out in a cinema.

Sometimes you get people who shout out crap at the film itself, but that just doesn't make any sense. It's like heckling comedians, but a complete failure.

Not really but the once when I went to see King Kong with me mates, when that native kid bit Jack Black I shouted out in the cinema "IT'S RABID!!!". =P

No No No No, a hundred times No. I don't care if you're seeing Black Swan or Twilight, the people who paid for the movie deserve the right to see it without ass-hats providing their own commentary.
Agreed! You have youtube, use it.

My last two cinema trips have been ruined by retards sitting behind me. The last one was a boy, younger than 10 who was questioning everything and his dad didn't bother telling him to shut up. Good parenting right there.
Time before was some girl who was screeching and flailing around at any noise and talking pretty much non-stop. The cinema was pretty much full too, it was the first day release of the final Harry Potter movie. Heeheeehee, I'm a completely random, ditzy gurl!~ She had a face like someone punched a confused orange too.

Is this some kind of American thing? Because as far as I'm aware here in the UK speaking in cinemas is a big no-no. Don't clap, don't talk, don't laugh to loud, because for fucks sake your here to watch the bloody movie.
