I'm into post-punk recently; I'm finding myself itching for the energy after a long period of listening to dreamy post-rock and really mellow contemporary folk.
I don't believe I've heard of them, but I don't get out too much.JC175 said:I have actually heard of and actively listen to Opeth, as well as hearing tracks from Meshuggah and Gojira. Not a massive fan, I don't mind Opeth, but I prefer my heavier music to be sporadic and energetic, hence why I'm more into bands like Dillinger and the Blood Brothers rather than chunkier stuff like the bands you mentioned. Trust me, I listen to a shitload of different music, and the band below is one example:Novskij said:Thats cuz you never heard of Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Meshuggah,Gojira, or Opeth or other stuff.
<spoiler=The Locust playing Recyclable Body Fluids in Human Form live><spoiler=A track called Anything Jesus Does I Can Do Better set to a shitty video>I listen to this band occasionally because they're ridiculously spasmodic, if that's even a word. I understand a hell of a lot of people would just hear their music as noise, but they're great to thrash out to.
I'm sure seeing as you know the genre you'd know of the genius that was Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli, but Viper's Dream is one of my favourite tracks of theirs:Berethond said:I demand links!LCP said:Gypsy jazz FTW!
Currently, I've been loving the works of Wynton Kelly, the (second)most amazing pianist of all time, as far as I'm concerned.
<spoiler=Obviously its not the original but this version is quite good as well>
(Somehow I feel like I've just posted the most erratic and bewildering post on the Escapist. The Locust and Gypsy Jazz? Please.)
Yeah, it's that. I used to like radiohead until those bastards ruined them for me.Hobo Joe said:Metal, full stop really; bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest never lose their magic for me, I'd elaborate further but don't really have much time. By the way, I fucking HATE Indie Rock. I don't know if it's mainly because everyone in school claims to be "Indie" or because the music/image of the bands makes me want to take them to a high cliff and send them down to the ground rather rapidly.
Some composers define them as MathMetal because of the complex rhythms used in their music. One of the main reasons why I listen to them actually.Joos said:Math metal? Lulz, aren't the sub-sub-genres getting a bit ludicrous there? Personally, I just chuck them in the prog. metal sub-genre.AC1izm said:I listen to pretty much every style except Pop & Country, but my favourite at the moment would be Math-Metal (Such as Meshuggah) & Math-Jazz (like Hiromi Uehara)
Ah, good bands and I agree with your edited statement 100%. A lot of good music can be found in jazz, blues, classical, techno etc that inspires me and others to progress other genres of music as well.Trotgar said:Progressive Rock/Metal. Favorite bands include Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and Opeth.
EDIT: The genre doesn't matter that much to me, the music's just gotta be good.
I've been stuck on mostly instrumental trip-hop for a while now, I think it is f**king amazing.Eleuthera said:At the moment it's pretty much the same it's been for the last 10 years. Indie-singer-songwriter-folk or whatever you want to call it. I noticed my musical tastes have mellowed out, and I'm more interested in the "story" than the music.
I've also recently "discovered" chillout-triphop, I have no idea why but I like it.

As in stuff like Massive Attack? I just saw them on Wednesday night, they were amazing, best live band I've ever seen.Eleuthera said:I've also recently "discovered" chillout-triphop, I have no idea why but I like it.
